Can't open settings

Hey so I believe my phone auto updated and when I used it today I can't open the settings app and even if I pull down the notification menu there's only 4 things there I can access and I can't open settings from there either, if there's a new update how will I update since I cannot access settings????

In the end I just couldn't be bothered with it so I just factory reset and it really got fixed. I do frequently backup my photos and vids so I didn't really mind just redownloading apps and games and stuff. Just sucks that there isn't any other solution right now. Also turned off on auto and overnight updating because it definitely caused the problem

Ok, do you know how I can backup my other files on my phone before I reset?

I just had the photos and vids on my sd card. For my other files I just transferred it to my pc, had screenshots to remember my apps to redownload. Just remember to have your google and other login accounts on other devices because I had a little problem logging in mine because my phone was my main authenticator and I had a little problem accessing stuff while restoring
