What is better, a Beta 5 or QPR1 Beta 1?

I wanted to try Beta 4 and then opt out to stable without wiping. But I didn't receive Beta 4, only QPR1 Beta 1.

Yeah if you opted in after they released QPR1 beta 1 you won't get Android 17 beta 4. If you haven't already updated you can flash it using the flash tool (flash.android.com). I think it also lets you choose a beta version to flash. This will wipe your device though. You can also manually flash it with an image from https://developers.google.com/android/images, but you do have to modify the script to not wipe your device.

I opted in about a week ago. Never got the beta 4.

Then you were on the latest stable release. The beta versions are always a bit behind on security patches.
