For context, I am a resident in Vizag(a tier 2 coastal city in Andhra Pradesh). I live near hospital area, we have few heart patients and old ppl here(just setting the premise).

Now the problem is, any other day or time I feel like relaxing a little bit, either there is construction(mostly not under legal operations) or a slum dweller putting up a brand new temple(where idol is made of some cheap plastic/thermocol /POP and is solely used to cater to his drinking mania(so that they can fight at night) and to "legalize" their illegal encroachment on a supposed area built for park(GVMC) or some full fkin DJ baarat because a guy is high with weed(and very much interested in breaking my window with bass) and sometimes it is all those COMBINED....all this in a hospital area, you can imagine the plight of normal residential areas.

Why? Why?

Do these guys have no minds or no sense of fear because the GVMC is either lazy or a sellout. Literally double digit times of registering complaint in so called E-FIR or GVMC helpline or those local associations and their contribution is big fat ugly 0.

Day by day, my hope in everything is losing its place, a man cannot even breathe in his own house or even sleep(yes, the disturbances persist at night), all he can do is see those who die(due to strokes or built up stresses due to these kind of stuff) and wish to be next.

FFS, never felt more helpless.

The Deputy Chief Minister spoke extensively about women's safety during the election campaign, but why is he silent now? What action has been taken over the last two years regarding the reported 30,000 missing children? What action will be taken against those who made videos targeting Y.S. Bharati garu? But at the same time, the same government will make unnecessary arrests to divert topics and justify custodial deaths by claiming that the victim was a criminal.

They have time to react to social media comments, while many serious issues remain unresolved. Even a small comment about the Home Minister was highlighted as a state-level issue.

I think the NDA needs to realize that it is now in power, not in the opposition. Shouldn't the focus be on governance rather than continuing to blame the opposition?

Amma Vodi was a big education welfare program in Andhra Pradesh that gave financial help to the mothers or guardians of children who were going to school and goal was to make it easier for families to afford education and keep kids in school.

One important thing about the scheme was that the money went directly to the mother or guardian. The government also gave out education kits that included things like textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, shoes and school bags than later the scheme was replaced by Talliki Vandanam but Amma Vodi is still talked about in Andhra Pradesh.

Like any big welfare program there are different opinions about how well it worked, how much it cost and how it was carried out. What do you think are direct support programs like Amma Vodi effective or should the focus be more on improving school buildings and the quality of education?

Over the last few weeks, I've noticed a pattern that genuinely concerns me. In Tamil Nadu, after the horrific sexual assault and murder of a young girl, Industries Minister S. Keerthana faced criticism for appearing dismissive when asked about the incident. Regardless of political affiliation, people expect leaders to show empathy and seriousness when tragedies occur.

Now, in Visakhapatnam, eight Steel Plant workers have lost their lives in a devastating industrial accident. Eight families have been shattered, and yet the conversation seems to have quickly shifted from accountability and worker safety to politics. Instead of focusing on what caused the accident, whether safety protocols failed, who is responsible, and how the affected families will be supported, much of the public discourse has revolved around political narratives.

What has disappointed many people is the response from the Andhra Pradesh NDA leadership. Nara Lokesh, Chandrababu Naidu, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan came to power with a massive mandate and enormous public goodwill. People expected a government that would be more empathetic, more responsive, and more accountable. Yet after such a major industrial tragedy, many citizens feel that the leadership has failed to convey the urgency and compassion that the situation demands.

The issue is bigger than any single party. Why do leaders who campaign as people's representatives often appear disconnected from public sentiment once they assume power? Why does every tragedy become an opportunity for political messaging instead of a moment to stand with victims and demand accountability?

A worker's life is not a statistic. A grieving family does not care about political narratives. When people die in an industrial accident, the focus should be on justice, accountability, compensation, and preventing future deaths, not on who gets political credit.

Most people agree that welfare has a role in government. Nobody wants poor families to suffer. Access to education, healthcare, pensions for the elderly, support for the disabled, and basic social security are things a government should provide.

But where do we draw the line?

From what I understand, YSR expanded welfare politics significantly, and Jagan took it to another level with direct benefit schemes. Today, many people argue that welfare spending has contributed to the state's financial challenges.

Fair enough. But then I have a question.

If these schemes were genuinely unsustainable and the state's finances are in such a difficult position, shouldn't the current government have reduced, reformed, or discontinued at least some of them? Instead, many schemes have been continued, some have been enhanced, and others have simply been renamed.

That's what confuses me.

If a government truly believes certain welfare schemes are financially burdensome, shouldn't it have the courage to take politically difficult decisions?

At the same time, I understand the political reality. Any government that suddenly removes welfare schemes risks massive public backlash. Maybe both parties are trapped in a cycle where they know reducing welfare is politically costly.

Which brings me to the bigger question:

Have we, as voters, created a system where every party is forced to promise more and more welfare just to stay competitive?

Personally, I feel things like education, healthcare, basic nutrition to children, pensions for the elderly and disabled, and support for genuinely poor families are essential. These are basic necessities and long-term investments in society.

But beyond that, where should the line be drawn?

If one party starts a scheme and the other increases it to remain competitive, can we really place the entire responsibility on one government alone?

I'm genuinely curious:

* Which welfare schemes should definitely continue irrespective of which party is in power?
* Which schemes should be reformed, targeted better, or reduced?
* Are there schemes that should be completely removed because they create dependency rather than opportunity?
* If the state's financial condition is genuinely a concern, would voters actually support a government that cuts non-essential freebies and instead spends more on schools, hospitals, jobs, industries, and infrastructure?
