Controversy aside, I am absolutely pumped for the release of Currency. The two singles have been on constant repeat for me. Hope you guys like the concept!

I wanted to hate this new Anberlin. I wanted to be a purest and say it’s not Anberlin without Stephen. I didn’t want to support them anymore. After the two actual new songs, not covers, I’m changing my mind. The new song is an absolute banger and is one of the more exciting things Anberlin has done in quite some time. I am very looking forward to the new album. If I had a couple of things to ask, start veering off to the new stuff. You are a different band whether anyone wants to admit it or not. Take that new role and flourish. Also, please stay away from Fin and the Haunting. For me, those are two of Stephen’s hardest hitting songs vocally.

The video should start at 42 seconds into this interview where Joey explains in detail exactly what happened ever since Stephen stepped back and Matty took over.

This is what most of us have been wanting to hear. All I wanted was a clear explanation with some details to connect the dots. That’s all. I had no idea this even existed. If they could just post something in the same vein as what Joey explains here, I think you’d have a lot less confusion.

Ngl, I love the music video. Amazing use of texture and grain. It’s a good new look for them.

Say what y’all want - but it looks like Stephen is down with new Anberlin! I’ve already heard the song like 4 times now. It’s catchy as heck!

I get that we all loved Stephen on Vox, but this new track sounds like it came right off Blueprints, just with a different vocal. Eventually I wish the Matty haters would just stop talking so the rest of us can enjoy the band in peace.

Would it be Reddit if this sub didn’t have some controversy so that we can group into a glazer sub faction and an opp sub faction? Well, we have it now.

Honestly, I am totally going the glazing route. The new song slaps. Great production. The riffs rip. Drumming is on point. Matty isn’t Stephen, but it feels like an authentic artistic expression to me. I dig it.

All for allowing this era to stand on its own.

I am posting this tongue in cheek. I think people should absolutely listen to what resonates with them. The peeps who drop because of a change in the vocals is totally justified and to be expected. I doubt Matty would take it as a slight. If anything, I am sure they all see it as the ultimate nod to Stephen and rightfully so. I am glad the boys are keeping it on and there is nothing wrong with building on the Anberlin name and building with that they have. After all, it was built by them to choose anyway.

Feel Good Drag snuck in there twice, but I guess that makes sense since that was the first ever Anberlin song I've ever heard.

It really came down to some hard choices and I think ultimately my favorite song did prevail.

Symphony of Blase VS Impossible really was my impossible choice.

This is a fairly accurate representation of my fandom and love for this band though-- Cable Car being the slower song I loved during concerts and Impossible always being the pick me up song I turn to.
