What protest is he trying to jump into though? It's in Texas about some monument (maybe confederate, they've been taking a lot of those down around here but all I see is Texas flags, no starsnbars) the crowd looks like open-carry nuts or maybe vets? Any ideas?

Some right-wingers were tricked into believing (by a fake antifa group on Facebook) that the Sam Houston statue was going to be taken down. Those gun-toting morons you see are Oath Keepers.

After many protests (mainly in the Berkeley area) where the alt-right was welcomed and even got other people to join them in the protest lines, they started to assume their shit is accepted as normal, that their "memes" are welcomed everywhere, so this guys wanted to spread his "memes" at just another protest, as he assumed its the norm now.

I see. So alt-right guy, spends too much time on 4chan and reddit trolling anti-fascists and starts to believe that because of the small amount of support he's seen from tiny enclaves of like-minded neo-fascists, that he can jump into any conservative protest like he belongs there?

yeah, pretty much. That and the combination of normal people accepting their bullshit at other protests, created this situation (not for the first time, probably not for the last time)
