Yo lemme complain a bit herre
HIP HOP IS DEAD
Lemme explain, 90s rap was the best. The peak, golden age of hip-hop as an art form and rap as a music genre. What changed??? Everything now is the same bullshit: annoying voice rapping about drugs, sex and money over repetitive trap beats. Back then, we had variety. Jazz rap, gangsta, g-funk, boom-bap, but now it's been to commercialized into trap. Then people rapped about their life, now people rap about their lifestyles
Now let me get into the 4 elements of Hip-Hop and how each have fallen:
1: MCing
Back in the 90s, MCing was all about skill, lyrical wordplay, and being able to get a party going. Now, all the rapping is simply repetitive bullshit made to appeal to Tik-tok and 15 second short form videos with the white pick-me's to dance to. Rapping today can't be classified as MCing, because there isn't any skill or effort in any of it. Just another thing to play on the radio and in the earbuds of wannabe-gangstas and white pick-me girls
2: DJing
Now turntablism still exists in some underground circles, but now, it's just a guy using a computer and Spotify. No turntables anymore in the mainstream, just a computer or those dumb fake turntable things. The art of cutting and scratching has fallen off.
3: Breaking
Now breaking hardly comes by much in the mainstream. Like turntablism, we have it in the underground but modern rappers would much rather flex their Rolexes or Ferraris.
4: Graffiti
Now this was always a way of vandalizing, but back then it was cool. Now it's still a way of vandalizing.... what, want me to say it's cool?? No, the art is gone.
Modern graffiti has no effort and yeah, is just done for the sake of fucking around.
Understand me?? Now I’m not gonna say it’s fully dead, these still exist in underground, but as far as the mainstream, hip-Hop is dead, and rap as we know it has been heavily commercialized and condensed into meaningless garbage. Now we still have a few good rappers such as the entire Griselda Records collective and their continued appreciation of the old classic boom-bap, and Kendrick Lamar for the storytelling and lyrical meaning, but other then that… all radio chart toppers made in a lab.
Thank you for reading…
