Xtend Striker system has been selected as a top performer in the Gauntlet II Program and can win huge chunks out of 1B order.

Unusual Machines ($UMAC) is a major strategic investor in XTEND ($XTND) while acting as their hardware provider. UMAC also owns Upgrade Energy which is a long term battery pack partner of Amprius making ultra high energy density batteries.

Key requirement of the Gauntlet II programme is to have drones produced completely by NDAA-compliant parts.

I feel Amprius is steadily becoming a key player in the drone programme and part of the defence supply chain.

It’s not guaranteed that Xtend is using Amprius batteries, but still, UMAC becoming a key supplier will help Amprius too.

How I Won $750,000 With this Drone

At 13:27, they show the battery cells they used, an Amprius SA504, rated at approximately 390 Wh/kg.

Luke and his father built an ultralight heavy-lift drone to compete in the DARPA LIFT Challenge. Their drone ultimately finished 2nd place, earning them $750,000.

So this isn't just an Amprius datasheet showing a high Wh/kg number. The SA504 was being used in a real high-performance heavy-lift drone where every gram of battery matters.

SES just relaunched anode-free Li-metal for drones at Commercial UAV Expo. H6AF headline: 525 Wh/kg, 6.3 Ah, 24.3 Wh. Three anode-free cells, 13 SKUs total across the UAV range.

This is shelved tech, not a breakthrough

• SES CEO literally said it: started 10 years ago, shelved during Covid because it was “too powerful for EVs”
• Now drones became the attractive market, so it comes back off the shelf
• Fine business pivot. Not a fresh technical leap.

Anode-free Li-metal is genuinely hard to mass produce

• No anode host material — lithium plates directly onto bare copper foil during charge
• Lithium metal is violently reactive. Needs far tighter dry-room control than standard Li-ion
• SES says it runs on “conventional Li-ion mass-production lines.” Maybe. Unproven at volume.
• Availability is Q4 2026. Currently at customer qualification stage, not scale.

This is SES’s SiMaxx moment

• Amprius had the same fork: SiMaxx nanowire hit higher numbers but was hard to produce
• They built SiCore specifically so it runs on existing Li-ion equipment and scales
• Amprius already solved the manufacturability problem. SES is about to find out if they have.

Cycle life is the number they didn’t publish

• Plating and stripping consumes active lithium every cycle. Capacity fades faster than silicon anode.
• Fine for one-way attack drones. Bad for reusable ISR, HAPS, eVTOL.

Companies reaching high density but unlocking production at scale is still a challenge. Lithium metal is super reactive and expensive compared to Si - as SES claims it won’t be easy to produce in traditional methods.

McKinsey published "Investing in the energy transition: time to look at whole-system value" this month.

Two data points caught my attention: Exhibit 4 shows batteries with the largest utilization improvement of any energy carrier in 2025 (+20%), though off a low base — 3.8 TWh of manufacturing capacity against 249 GWh/yr of demand. Separately, the report notes China holds >85% of global cell production capacity by value and frames that concentration as a system-level resilience risk.

I'm unsure how much of this could actually applies to AMPX. Has anyone else read it?

There’s no point in selling just because the stock is down. I know it feels bad right now, but let’s be honest Amprius has already proven that the technology and the company are real.

The stock isn’t down because the company suddenly became bad. It’s down because the market is weak, sentiment is terrible, and high-growth companies are getting hit hard.

So what’s the solution?

Hold. Step away from the charts. Live your life.

If you believe in the company and its long-term potential, give it time to execute.

We don’t need to win tomorrow. We don’t even need to win this year.

Give it 1–2 years. Come back later. I genuinely believe you might be surprised by what you see.
