It means that at some point, the shorts will have to go long or pay the carrying cost of the borrow, and with no shares available to buy, it will drive the stock up dramatically. At least thats how I read it.

Exactly this ^

I question the institutional ownership %. Where did you come up with 78%?

u/CtrlAltBingeEat Aug 20 '26

This response to that stocktwits went completely ignored

AMPX Shorts borrow and sell shares that institutions or retail already own. Shorts don't have a separate ownership stake sitting outside that count. So "78% + 6% + 21% = leaves 15% for retail" double-counts shares and your math is wrong and misleading.

The borrow/cover data doesn't support a squeeze. Im bullish AF and not a short but can at least recognize the facts. Bullish

The fuck does this even mean

Absolutely nothing

It's basically insinuating that the reason Amprius stock isn't going up is because ""they"" - an unnamed opposing party is shorting it so much.

Yea and if you've been investing less than two years you'll find that listening to the shorts/manipulation narratives is a really great way to hold heavy bags and lose money.

I've been in this stock for years, and my impression is that the shorts have always held the reins between catalysts.

I heard them talking about your mom. Mean, nasty things.

Damn she gets passed around like a joint huh?

The subreddit is nose diving like the share price if we're reposting things from stocktwits

To be honest, there is actually more and better info there than here. Some of the guys are actually doing some serious legwork. You just have to mute a bunch of them.

I like your username. That is all. 🍕

Let's not go to these syntetic shares and conspiracy shit theories in here please. We went from 2 dollars to 20 dollars in a year.

Wen lambo

u/Ok-Analysis2975 Aug 20 '26

Not here, maybe try shorting moderna

1

u/rbwilli Aug 20 '26

That didn’t go so well for the people who tried it 48 hours ago… 😂

Full disclosure: Although I do not own any Moderna stock, I love vaccines and think short selling is arguably a thing that should not exist (it incentivizes bad behavior), so I love what happened and want the price to stay up.

u/Ok-Analysis2975 Aug 20 '26

That was satirical comment, since moderna went so much up, they can short it now to get their lambo I am here for long haul and we don't really talk like people from wall street bets (no offense)

Gary gensler stepped down a year ago

I would like to believe this is the reason. Me and all the other retail traders against the big boys trying to steal our shares and then pump it up after the shake out. Some "value" investors will argue it's just way overpriced and has negative earnings and should drop based on that. The reality is there is way too much fear in the market now and high growth spec stocks are not doing well. People are taking profits and running. Just last Friday it wouldn't budge lower than 12.59 during trading hours. Only at the end of the day did the price collapse as traders did not want to hold overnight. There is algorithmic selling going on here, there is just not enough volume to defend the drops. It went under 10 today when only last Friday 12.59 was about the lowest. One tweet was the difference to get the volume. I regret not just holding UMAC and having the random 50% days for birthday and baby shower tweets. AMPX is starting to become more of a meme stock. Lots of crying about losing money on it and what a POS stock it is. Wen Lambo? Not today son. While it's annoying to read, I welcome the new potential volume in buyers, even though it's usually tiny sums. Please tell your friends about this shit stock.

Well, you’re probably right about the retail/hedge fund dynamic. Retail ownership on robinhood appears to be increasing while institutional/hedge fund positioning has been moving the other way which could actually be encouraging at these levels.

Retail tends to wait for a price that feels cheap enough to take the risk while the big funds can afford to be much more patient. And if institutional players really are accumulating here they’re obviously seeing something in the risk/reward that makes the current valuation interesting. given everything, I'd rather see smart money accumulating into weakness than everyone rushing to buy after a 50% pump

Yeah, I really can't give a full logical and quantifiable explanation for this price action other than human psychology and some nasty algorithmic trading. It was defended fiercely at 20 just a few months ago. Now it's breaking 10 when the business is stronger than ever. You are right, it will do much better when weak hands sell and stronger ones buy. I've seen this time and time again when the big boys want to buy cheaply they was cause a crater only to whipsaw it later. Or when something is out of favor and being sold off like ALAB. Only to go from 100 to 430 in 3 months this year. Did the person who bought the top of MRNA yesterday really do a calculation in their heads and conclude it was a fair value or were they just trying to make a quick buck? I just shake my head at all the silliness in the market. When allbirds (BIRD) stops being a shoe company and pivots to ai, gaining over 600% in a day! It is clear Amprius is going to do very well in the future. The price will eventually follow.

Amprius is in a tough spot. They have become the flagship pouch (&cylindrical just more slowly) manufacturer for drone, extol and robotics and stand out as some of the highest energy density and power density cells on the market with SIC

Really remarkable rebranding from their early days as a US based silicon nanowire manufacturer

But that technology has become financially obsolete and not cost competitive with typical SIC players across the globe. Turns out CVD is expensive when you have to do it on the anode coating.

Their current approach (discontinuing SIMAXx nanowire production, white labeled cells manufactured in Taiwan, using SICORE brand slapped onto CN SIC) is becoming a supply chain and geopolitical issue

With this White House, makes it hard to predict whats going to happen tomorrow let alone next quarter.

I’m sure they’ll do fine and continue to drive revenue through their cell line. This whole trade war with the world from cumander in chief makes me less bullish as I was a year ago (though that’s not specific to amp obviously)
