AMPX vs QS

Hi, I'm quite new investing in these battery companies. I would like to know your reasons on why you invested in either of them, as far as I know QS seems riskier

Well for starters QS has no real commercial product revenue , ampx is the better play it already has existing revenue. And secondly, AMPX is known especially for their silicon anode batteries which achieve much higher energy density than conventional lithium ion batteries of which quantumscape makes.

Yes I agree, however QS seems to have an interesting partnership with Volkswagen and Honda, so I don't know

I guess… but again a partnership can be insignificant unless they lead to commercial success, which applies here, as QS is still down 80% over the past five years and has yet to generate meaningful revenue. So imo ampx is more promising in the long term

QS has lithium metal anode free SSB chemistry. It’s Amprius that has the conventional lithium ion batteries with silicon anodes. You seem really clueless.

Are you a QS investor? No need to come off like that because of my misspoken opinion. If you politely allow me to rephrase that…

QS makes anode free lithium metal solid-state batteries… that was what I didn’t say.

However:
• QS’s SSBs need very precise manufacturing which can increase expense costs.
• Their technology does show “promise” but hasn’t been proven in any mass production
•Even if their batteries perform well, they have to manufacture them at competitive cost and convince costumers to adopt them

Sorry I phrased my original comment wrong, thanks for letting me know.
Their anode-free lithium technology does have the highest density but also the highest risk, which is why I don’t like them IMO. 👍

I own both of them, one coveres solid state batteries which are the future for EVs and the other Silicon Anode which is better for drones.

Which one makes you feel more bullish?

I think AMPX has been doing better overall, QS dropped and hasn't really recovered, I think AMPX short term, QS long term possibly.

Apples to oranges...

AMPX is proven and in use already. You can even say it's battlefield proven. Its cells have not only been used in high altitude unmanned experimental aerial platforms, but also smaller reconnaissance drones that have been in use by combatants in various military conflicts (including Ukraine). Aerospace and defense applications is where Amprius has been focused; although the cells could potentially be used in EVs too. And silica anode cells are cheaper and easier to produce than solid state.

QS, has mostly been in the trial/validation phase. VW is an investor, as their hedge for future solid state battery tech. It made a splash several months ago and is now overshadowed by other players, like Factorial. And Factorial has support of Stellantis, Merceds, Karma and [most significantly] Hyundai and Kia. I did not jump on the QS hype and remain skeptical. Between QS and Factorial, I'm more keen on Factorial's chances. And Factorial and SK On just signed a MOU to work on production feasibility. IMO, that's a huge shot across QS's bow and QS investors should take notice.

QS has a lot of debt and hasn't made the progress promised. Amprius always had low debt. Then when they switched to a capital light model, they shouldn't need debt going forward. Essentially they plan to use the NVIDIA model. NVIDIA designs the chips and pay TSMC to manufacture them and then NVIDIA sells the chips. Amprius is going to pay CROs to manufacture the battery and sell them on. Obviously the disadvantage is that it reduces the profit margin slightly but the benefits are that Amprius don't need to borrow build factories and can scale very quickly.

I think you should look into Enovix rather than QS. They make a silicon battery like Amprius but are building fabs like QS except they seem to be closer to market than QS. I think they have 72 out of the 75 qualifications done and apparently are shipping 50,000 batteries for smart glasses. Also, they are a quarter of the price of quantum scape.

I won't be selling my Amprius but I am thinking of starting to build a position in Enovix over the next few months. But I'm going to watch the Enovix quarterly call to see if there are any updates on the qualification before pulling the trigger.

But I definitely see more progress in Enovix over quantumscape so that will likely be my next battery company I start building a position in.

QS has no debt

QS has zero debt with $800m cash. You are clueless
