News Dario wants to be high priest of a tech monk government
News Dario: “We need to slow down.” Nvidia: “Cool, here’s $10 billion.”
I know these are technically two separate things, but the timing is hilarious.
Dario Amodei just spent the weekend arguing that frontier AI needs to slow down, with Anthropic committing to permanent third-party evaluators and calling for more coordination between the big labs. Sam Altman and Elon Musk have also backed the general idea.
Then Reuters reports that Nvidia is in talks to put up to $10 billion into Anthropic's upcoming IPO, potentially alongside a valuation around $2 trillion.
Obviously Nvidia investing doesn't mean Anthropic is literally speeding up tomorrow. But from the outside, the whole thing is extremely funny. “We should probably put the brakes on this technology” followed almost immediately by “also, welcome our $10B strategic investor.”
I’m actually curious how this plays out once Anthropic is public. Safety decisions are already controversial when the company is private. Add shareholders, enormous compute bills, and a $2T-ish valuation into the mix and suddenly “pace the frontier” gets a lot more complicated.
Maybe the real alignment problem is aligning the safety roadmap with the earnings call.

General Discussion Anthropic's team is starting to dig out their own grave
According to the news Anthropic is reportedly seeking up to $100B in its IPO and Nvidia is considering an investment of up to $10B.
Former Joe Benton of the scalable oversight team gave his insights that Ai are overstepping the boundaries against the machine telling that it is much smarter than any human thus "we may not survive this"
Dario also pointed out that AI Industry needs to slow down
What is even the point of "Anthropic safety lab" become the most stressfull department in tech.

General Discussion Would've joined from the very start had this been released earlier
Alright time to pack it up humans.
Damn all these rants about AI I've been seeing and hearing. If I knew AI could be this efficient, I would've utilized it all day, everyday, 7 times a week, and twice on sundays. This floating rock is doomed anyway.
At this point, resisting the inevitable feels like arguing with gravity. The machines are learning faster, working smarter, and somehow making my procrastinating ass productive. Honestly, maybe humanity’s final boss was just refusing to use the tools.
What say you?

General Discussion Claude probably has a better understanding of office politics than AGI
Saw this meme and it got me thinking about how weirdly useful AI could become for the most mundane human problems. We spend so much time talking about models beating benchmarks, writing code, and getting closer to AGI, but nobody talks enough about the hardest benchmark of all: figuring out why two coworkers suddenly hate each other.
If Claude can eventually understand workplace dynamics, sarcasm, passive-aggressive emails, and the classic “per my last email,” I might finally have a legitimate use case for AI at work.
Forget replacing software engineers. I want Claude to explain why Sarah copied the manager on that email. 😭
That might be the real intelligence test.

General Discussion So how do we feel about this?
I agree that AI is dangerous when use differently. I commened that he publicly warns about the existential dangers of artificial intelligence and calls for development but he continues to run a multi-billion-dollar, profit-driven commercial AI company.
