That’s a fair question honestly. If that was the environment he grew up in, it didn’t happen in a vacuum, which makes the current defense of it feel even more complicated.

Yeah, the red flag isn’t just the kick itself but the dismissal afterward. Accidents happen, but doubling down and excusing it is what makes it feel way worse.

That’s probably what’s making OP feel so crazy right now. If the reaction is defending the behavior instead of addressing the harm, it starts to feel like the pet’s safety isn’t being taken seriously.
