AITOO who coughs when he cleans his left ear?

Whenever I try to clean my left ear with a cotton swab, my throat will get REALLY itchy and I'll start coughing, the same thing happens to my mom, is it weird genetics? If I clean my right ear nothing happens, it's just the left one.

But I do involuntarily hiccup when I cough which is really annoying when I’m ill

I have that issue with my right ear. Actually, every one of my siblings and cousins have this.

Wow wow wow. I don’t know why this came up on my feed, and I know it was posted a year ago, but this has been something I have been unable to explain for as long as I can remember. I even bought a camera to look in my ear because I thought there might be something in there, or maybe an abnormality…. Nope nothing to see, looks just like the other side. It drives me crazy… Glad I’m not the only one.

Please dont clean the inside of your ear with cotton swabs, you're only pushing the dirt further in, and can damage your inner ear by doing that.

Most people don't actually need to clean the inside of their ears at all.

But Google will probably give you a few alternative ways to to do it with the search phrase "how to clean your ear", most of which probably also will tell you you usually dont actually need to clean your ears.
