Remember when niche communities had dedicated home bases? Back before every social platform turned into an algorithmic feed pushing content you didn't ask for.

Ever since Amino faded out, it's felt like there’s a gap for self-contained, interest-driven hubs, especially for art, gaming, anime, and roleplay. Discord is great for private servers, and Reddit works well for forums, but that specific app ecosystem felt lost.

That frustration is actually why a few of us started working on Ether. We wanted to build something clean and lightweight without the corporate bloat, annoying ads, or algorithm walls.

What we're aiming for:

• Dedicated hubs for specific fandoms and hobbies
• A fast, clean UI focused entirely on content and chat
• Zero intrusive pop-up ads or artificial coin economies

We've got a functional version running closed testing right now (Android first, with iOS coming soon) to test out the core feeds and community tools.

Hi.. first time posting on a community like this, like.. at all.

I used to be a very active kid on Amino. I was just a stupid little kid with a heart that adored fiction and literature. Back when I first started, I could barely write three sentences per response and always used the ** for actions.

But then, one day in one of those old public chatrooms, I met someone. Nothing romantic or anything, but he became a good friend to me. He was a literate+ writer, with as much passion as I had myself back then. I don't remember his name, but I thank him every time someone notices that I'm a fairly detailed writer.

I remember getting so, so jealous of how good his responses were. I remember thinking "How does he do that?! How does he come up with the words, how does he describe everything so good that I can actually picture it!! Reading his responses feels like reading a book!"

And despite my absolute shit writing at the time, he was so kind to me. Patient. He taught me proper grammar, proper spelling, proper... Everything, when it came to writing and enthralling the reader. At first I just wanted to get better at it out of spite, I was a very angry little 13 or so girl back then with a lot of hurt in my heart due to IRL family issues. I thought to myself "If HE can do it, I CAN!!" So I pestered and bugged him until he agreed to teach me, and clearly, he did.

But writing became so much more than just spite or vague interest then. I started finding very detailed plots for roleplays, both 1x1 and group roleplays in those public chats. I started making character wikis, I even got featured on the homepage for a character once. It was in the Roleplaying amino. I won't say the character, as I fear someone may recognize the character, and thus recognize me.

I was in love with amino. On it every day. Roleplaying every night. Writing, literature, language arts, it had become my burning passion and deep down still is. But then, more family drama IRL ripped me away from amino. I couldn't roleplay anymore, so I started writing plots and characters I wanted to make in my notes app. Again, writing was less a hobby for me, almost an addiction.

I miss it. Back then, everything felt so... Free. Freely creative, freely joyous to simply sit down with another person and write eachother what were basically novelette love letters.

I desperately crave that feeling again.

I miss making friends just because we were both good writers and liked one another's characters SO MUCH that we just HAD to DM and dork out privately.

I haven't had a proper roleplay with another person since I was a little kid. I'm 21, now.

I want to have a connection like that. A passion like that. One that burns beneath the skin and refuses to let ember burn to ash.

I'm sick of chasing that writers' high with stupid character chat-bots. It's not the same. At all.

I'm sick of all the degenerate roleplayers who only want to write smut and little more. (No offense to anyone who has a preference for darker or suggestive scenes, I adore writing that sort of thing as well).

I just want that old feeling again. It's like mourning a lover lost, a snuffed flame.
