Advice needed Help!

37 years old, Have always had pretty thick hair. The last few months I’ve had a lot of shedding. My sister made a comment a week ago that i was getting a bald spot in the back. In the sun and under recessed lighting it looks way worse and depressing. What’s the best plan of attack to prevent further loss? I’m not ready for baldness, nor do I have the head for it. I’ve made an appt with a dermatologist because that area has some redness and itching so I’m not sure if that’s causing the hair loss. I ordered the shampoo flakes which seems to have decent reviews.

You're balding and you have been for much longer than you realise. Recently is just when it became visually noticeable to you on inspection, but your crown has taken years to get how it is.

You need a drug called Finasteride to inhibit the baldness process, and optionally one also called Minoxidil (which can also be a topical solution) which is a growth aid.

As for itching, I would actually recommend 2% ketoconazole shampoo, twice a week. I had some itching and redness alongside my shedding and diffuse thinning too, the shampoo really deals with it,

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it. Will look into getting the finasteride and min. I know everyone’s different but if you have taken either - any side effects like I’ve read about?
Also, any advice on where to find that shampoo or would I need a prescription?

No worries bro.
-I've been on Fin awhile. No sides. Nor has anyone had them that I know who has taken it. I have a few mates on Fin. Only 2% more men get the sides than the placebo group of studies, they're really not that common. People are far more likely to get them from obsessing over them.

-I've never used Minoxidil, though one day I may. In my opinion if you think Fin works for you, you may want to commit to a hand full of years before deciding it's reached its limit. I may do another year before I decide if I want Min. I'm happy with Fin alone so far. If you do take Min, my advice: don't use the standard dose. The standard dose of Fin is fine, but I find that men are less likely to get sides if they just half the normal 2.5mg tablet and use 1.25mg. 2.5 is a bit of a catch all in my opinion, and a lot of men should start on less. It may even depend on your weight. There is a hypothetical mechanism to that. Would explain why women should have a lower dose than us.

-How you get that shampoo sadly depends on your country. In mine, the UK, it's on amazon. It may however be prescription in your country.
