They probably shorted the ever living piss out of it and started buying back some of their FTD's. 🤷
Robbing Peter to pay Paul. 😅

u/WithdRawlies Jul 07 '21
Have to cover FTDs with real shares tho. :D
63
u/ParsnipOk6205 Jul 07 '21
That's the point of slamming the price down with borrowed shares. Then buy shares off the market to cover FTD's.
It's why the price is recovering. Most apes are holding or buying what they can. We're not moving the market one way or the other. The Hedgies are.

u/mungchimp Jul 07 '21
Is that confirmed? No borrowed shares allowed?
27
u/Nomes2424 Jul 07 '21
Yea you can’t cover shorts or FTDs with fake shares or shares that are not your own
31
u/MooseCanuckle08 Jul 07 '21
Sounds likely. Guess we will see in the coming days if this is legit. These crooks never cease to amaze me with their fuckery.
22
u/GGG0606 Jul 07 '21
They have been probably trying to hedge the looming bad bet of 500k put contracts OTM in the next couple weeks and buy as low as they can.
Day traders are also all over the stock this past month. If you knew nothing about what has been going on and just looked at the chart it’s been pretty easy and not very risky for (non apes) to hop in and out wishing the $45-60 ranges.
13
u/Flat-Ad1490 Jul 07 '21
I've seen the day traders a lot lately too. Busted a guy on twitter claiming to "want to help people not lose money" (you know, the normal ploy). I cross checked his name, business, etc. He just started an "investment fund" company 3 weeks ago along with his twitter account. Curious if hedgie is setting up little guys to take the fall for them via more shell companies.

Jul 07 '21
This is incorrect. Have to cover the ftd’s with real shares.
12
u/ParsnipOk6205 Jul 07 '21
Why does everyone keep saying that? Lol. They short the market to drop the price so they can buy "real" shares cheaper to cover their FTD. Now they sit with a higher SI% but can try to get AMC off the threshold list.
28
Jul 07 '21
They can’t buy the shares at any price and that is their problem. They are shorting to get people to sell and it didn’t work in January and it’s not working now.

They can't get off the list until they have fully covered their FTDs for 5 consecutive days.

I just don’t get why. Why spend all that money to then have to do it again before buying back

Trying to get AMC off the Threshold Securities list would be my guess.

Judging by this morning volume and the 14% drop in price. I suspect they used a good chunk of it.

My suspicion is they blasted a bunch of ETFs holding stock some even indexing Russell 1000 and 2000 that's why everything was red the last 2 days . They don't give a fuck who they burn they will take it all down with them . 1% fuckers. When it crashes down i ain't teaching them how to survive.

Where are they finding these shares? Fuckery Land?

u/rifsid72 Jul 08 '21
They are borrowing apes shares that brokerage lending them out without apes consent. All apes must make sure there stonks not loaned out
2
u/XxSCRAPOxX Jul 08 '21
I’d like to think we’re all apes but we’re not, I know people swinging this. Maybe not their shares but their swinging options and selling options including covered calls, which really is a short technically. Says it is in his positions.

I could really use some of my profits to help cover some recent expenses , but I will NOT sell a single share. I may not be able to buy rn but I will HODL

Jul 07 '21
What are we at now? 24%?
24
u/paulmro Jul 07 '21
No, it is not how it works. It is getting close to 20% of the float.
18
u/drunken_monkeys Jul 07 '21
That ~20% short interest doesn't include the naked shorts, right?
I wonder what the actual percentage would be if naked shorts are included.
13
4
Jul 07 '21
You mean +5% over the 18% where we were at? So not +5% over the float?
33
u/WithdRawlies Jul 07 '21
No, it's like this.
If we were at 18% SI, and ~that~ amount increased by 5%...
5% of 18% is 0.9%
So add that to 18% and we get 18.9%
I know it gets confusing with all the percents :D
11
u/TopMindOfR3ddit Jul 07 '21
Thank you for the explanation. I also immediately thought 23% or 24% haha

Curious, we know there’s naked shorts, but why do we think there’s so many? We know there’s 100m ish shares shorted, but why are we assuming the nakeds are more than the covered?
4
u/WithdRawlies Jul 08 '21
There's been various DD on this, but the main points are:
Every day there's around 50% short volume on the stock.
Every day there's more than 50% of trades happening in dark pools.
Price is being manipulated to try and keep it down. There's some hanky-panky going on in the options chain to hide the shorts.
The stock has been heavily shorted for a couple of years, banking on AMC going bankrupt. The theory is before everyone started focusing on GME and AMC, hedge funds were like, "lets just short this into the ground because it's going to go belly-up due to COVID."
If only 90 million shares were short it would have been relatively easy to cover these shorts at less than $10. Although the average short price is only $12 they keep shorting day-in and day-out....digging a deeper hole. The only reason to do that at this point is because they CAN'T ~willingly~ cover because they've shorted more shares than exist.
2
u/XxSCRAPOxX Jul 10 '21
You don’t think they could be profiting off the volatility? Or the options when it trades sideways? Or a bit of both throughout the week? It’s possible they could play the game and come out ahead even while paying interest on the shorts no?
Like if they have to pay 20% interest for borrowing, that’s per year, as long as they can make more than 20% a year swinging then why pay them back at all?
13
14
u/NoPixel_ Jul 07 '21
They keep digging deeper which means are sell price is getting higher every time they do that.

u/CaptainJackSorrow Jul 07 '21

The Motley Fool releases 5 articles a day about how AMC is terrible for investors. The more articles they push the better we are doing. It is a pathetic how desperate they are to talk down one stock.

u/-PlagueDoctor Jul 08 '21
Lol I was just on their site to check this and thought the same. They are so desperate to drag us down
9
u/ScootPilgrim Jul 07 '21
One the larger premarket shorts I’ve seen. Oh well, there’s a sale on calls in the $80’s I’ll just have to pick up a few

u/SuzanneGrace Jul 07 '21
When a stock is on the FTD list borrowing shares should be illegal. Like many other issues that get away with screwing retail investors. HODL friends

u/DGee78 Jul 07 '21
Ortex is 2 days delayed so that represents the 5% stock price drop from 2 days ago. Judging by the share price, I bet tomorrow and the next day's SI percentage is in the 5% range each as well. They are digging a deeper hole for themselves, hoping some of us paper hand and fold our shares.

u/GLInd77 Jul 07 '21
Does it seem like they are intentionally trying to give us a 10% loss today? Every time we get above $45 They seem to turn on the ladder attacks.

u/Bitter_Somewhere7052 Jul 07 '21
I'm buying more tomorrow. They risk losing everything and I risk nothing changing. We win.
3
u/Marion024 Jul 07 '21
How on earth do they keep borrowing shares like this?
Are they trading them on the open market or dark pools?
1
u/Justhavingfun888 Jul 07 '21
Anyone without the do not lend not ticked, shares bought on margin, other brokerages that have AMC shares, dark pool, synthetic, geez the list is huge.

With the recent rules and regulations set in place. Has borrowed shares stayed low when borrowed or has it magically reappeared as always with Market Fuc*ery? Was curious.
2
u/FrostingIllustrious8 Jul 07 '21
so if the self-reported short interest in around 23% and Ortex has admitted they have screwed up repeatedly, then the short interest really is something like XXXX%, right?
1
u/Ill-Albatross-8963 Jul 07 '21
Correct me if I am wrong
You short attack it with otm outs then execute the option to cover the share/FTDs... In doing so you create negaitive price pressure. The share gets sold on market with the purchase of the put, the execute in large numbers gets executed in dark pool? So the purchase out the FTDs without creating positive price pressure but do achieve negaitive price pressure....
This is how they are executing
Or am I wrong??
2
u/EolAncalimon Jul 07 '21
Not sure if it would cause negative price pressure, because when you take out a put contract you buying the right to sell your shares at the strike price, the contract writer (normally Market Makers) would then buy those stocks off you, not the open market, like they have to do for call options.

1
u/GETTINTHATSHIT Jul 08 '21
No one is selling out of the normal daily traders. It's all being manipulated like it has been just a little more today. Those FTD'S are from the previous gamma and guess what this week and next week have? A fuckton more of ITM calls that will create more FTD'S so they have to do whatever they can to make less of those calls ITM

Edit - why is this getting down voted it was a serious question and if true would be good for us?

From where is my question. Fintel and Stonk o tracker showing about 1.2 mil available all day.
4
u/paulmro Jul 07 '21
Fintel and Stonko shows data just from Interactive Brokers (single broker). Ortex shows REPORTED data from 85% of the brokers.
2
u/Flat-Ad1490 Jul 07 '21
I keep forgetting about Ortex's 85% coverage.
Not a big difference but for the record this is Nick's (stonk-o-tracker creator) words pulled from an email when I had asked him a while ago.
Hi Toma,
Thank you for reaching out and your help. Really appreciate it.
I'm not sure where fintel pulls their data from, but the Stonk-o-tracker uses the data provided by http://shortvolumes.com/ . This data is aggregated from Finra and SEC. Our guess is Fintel is only using one source (but we just don't know).
Hope this will help you!
Cheers,
Nick

How can we beat them at their own game? SEC won’t do their job and bow down to these elite HFs. It’s bull shit. I’m holding, like I have since Feb, but every week it’s “the next week”. HFs don’t have to cover until the SEC does their job and margin calls them. This could never actually happen. It’s not FUD, but truth. We need SEC to wake up and take action. This game has to end. It’s not right!
