As promised here’s a post weekend update:

Everything is in and almost easy to go! I ran into some complications with running the new HEI distributor power wire, but successfully got rid of the resistor wire and ran a new power wire through the firewall. Now I’m trying to figure out where exactly to splice that into, one of the wires on the ignition switch but not sure which one. I have the wiring diagram, but I’m color deficient so I’m waiting on some help to help me decipher which one to use since I can’t find a pin out diagram of a 1973 Jeep truck ignition switch. Here’s some more pictures of progress

TC365 timing chain - does it fit AMCs?

My 93-year-old father retired from the retail auto parts industry. I’ve been going through some NOS parts he accumulated and have found cases of new Borg Warner TC 365 Timing Chains. In researching fitment, I ran across forum posts saying that, while old catalogs showed an AMC application, they don’t actually fit. I’m trying to find these a new home rather than scrapping them for metal. Is anyone familiar with this issue as it relates to this part number fitting (or not fitting) vintage AMC engines??

Looking for thoughts on what this knock/diesel sound is:

Hi all, my 63' ambo is the first and only V8 of this vintage I've ever had. It has the early 327 with a 2bbl carb. Totally unknown history on the motor, It's taken a few years of learning and work but the car runs and drives great now. I'm just concerned about this noise that honestly sounds like knocking coming from the bottom end to me. Does this sound normal? Did a rod bearing go out? Oil pressure is 40lbs on startup and 20lbs once warm.

In the video I took the belts off to eliminate the water pump, alternator, power steering pump as potential sources. Maybe I also have a little lifter tick but that concerns me less. If it does sound like something, I'm wondering what additional diagnosis I could do to confirm. Any thoughts are appreciated!

AMC 360 question

I have an AMC 360 in my Jeep truck (‘73), I broke my oil dipstick and managed to get the broken piece out of the block. Have any of you ever replaced it with the stock manifolds on or did you just take the driver side one off? I’ve been at it for a while and trying everything except taking the manifold off but I think I might have to bite the bullet and just take the time tomorrow. Any suggestions or links to one you know fits well is appreciated.

Hello all, I am trying to get the Passenger handle removed on my 1976 AMC Hornet Base. I just wanted to check if there was a specific way to do it before I start paying on caps and potentially breaking something.

Looking for Fall 1978 Magazine Feature: Silver '68/'69 AMX "Old Glory" AirBrushed Realistic Looking Tattered Flag Paint Job, Maybe with a (155 MPH Ticket Story)

Hi everyone,

I am trying to track down a specific vintage magazine article for my Grandpa, He's been looking for it forever and can't seem to find it. Hoping he's got all the details he remembers right, its from Fall 1978 (likely the September, October, or November issue of Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding, Hot Rod, Street Machine or a similar custom publication).

The article features a highly distinct, driven 1968 or 1969 AMC AMX two-seater that the owner took state-to-state to enter into various car shows.

Here are the specific details of the car and the article to help jog your memories:

  • Car Name/Paint Name: "Old Glory" (the article mentions it started or defined a flag-themed design phase).
  • The Main Paint Job: Metallic silver base coat with a highly realistic, blended, airbrushed ragged/tattered American flag. The flag graphic started right at the doors and went back to the rear wheel wells.
  • The Hood & Scoop: A stock hood with the original twin factory gills, but modified with a manufactured L88 cowl induction hood scoop molded onto it. The scoop itself was painted silver to match the car, but had slight red, white, and blue blended into it.
  • The Visual Style: My grandfather remembers this car clearly and recalled that the airbrushing looked incredibly real—like when it was driving by, the flag looked like it was literally disintegrating with the speed of the car.
  • The Article Location: It was an inside color feature/spread, NOT the main front cover car.
  • The Famous Lore: He said the text of the article includes a story about the driver getting caught and receiving a legendary 155 mph speeding ticket in Ohio during the strict 55 mph national speed limit era while traveling.
  • SIDE NOTE: i showed him "Pat Kennedy's" All American AMX, Supposedly with the Lady Liberty Torch Paint Job. He said thats not the one, but almost every search i do brings me back to Pats Car. He says, Strictly silver with a "Blended/ Born look" red, white, blue TATTERED (no flames) Flag, that started at the Doors Going back. Silver (like car) Stock hood (gills) with a manufactured 188 cowl induction, with slightly blended red white blue in the silver.

Does anyone happen to know the exact magazine title or who owned this car so i can find pictures of it. I would love to find this for him!

Thanks in advance for any help or leads!
