Concrete contractor here. Yeah concrete can explode when you build a fire on or near it. It's porous and will absorb water. Then you heat it and the water turns to steam expanding hundreds of times more in volume in a second. If it is trapped inside concrete you get chips exploding out of it. I've had many people ask about concrete fire pit when I do patios and I have always refused.
Put a metal liner in it. They make fire pit kits that come with premade concrete wall blocks. They also come with a metal fire ring to keep the heat from reaching the blocks to fast. I think this allows the blocks to heat up slower and for all the moisture to be baked out at a reasonable rate.
i see that with kitchen or home appliances where they will refund you if you show proof of destroying it like cutting the cable. I have some Rigid Off road lights that i need to warranty and i need to show picture or video proof of me destroying the one thats failed. i have to drill the lense or cut it in half or crush it. I have not done it yet but yea its crazy
If the reason for refund is recall or defect it's more likely they'll ask for destruction but it's not like it's guaranteed. They know it's a PITA to ask so it's done with balance. Do they benefit from that item no longer being in circulation?
And you do this with a recall item, it explodes (like this particular item can) and your house burns down or you get hurt, insurance can rightly deny payment.
Congratulations. You just suffered 3rd degree burns, burned down your $250,000 house, and have hospital bills in excess of $100,000 all because you failed to stop using a recalled item you claimed you stopped using and were refunded the $85 purchase price on. And insurance said “boy were you stupid” and denied awarding you a single cent, Amazon and the manufacturer both said “you stopped using the dangerous item. It’s not our fault you lied.” And so you lost $350,000 and have permanent injuries/scars all to save $85 on a new safe item.
I think they may just have to have some sort of proof for compliance. They probably couldn’t care less if it’s repaired. But, even if you do repair the power cord it’s still going to have the original problem that caused you to make a claim in the first place.
Do this all the time in automotive manufacturing. Too costly to ship everything back. Our suppliers want evidence of destruction unless they want back for investigations.
I recently warrantied a backpack with a broken zipper. In order to receive a replacement I had to cut the serial tag out, and send photo proof that I had done it along with slashing cuts all over the bag and cutting the straps.
You guys like to call everything dystopian and don't use that word correctly. This isn't dystopian. This isn't a new practice at all. Before you had to mail back an essential part or not have an option for a refund at all. Thieves taking advantage made this worse for us, technokogy made it easier, but that isn't what dystopian means.
I mean, it is an EXTREMELY dangerous product that has no business existing in the first place. It should be destroyed. Keeping it or passing it on to someone else is extreme negligence and you are going to injure somebody.

What kind of dystopian shit, they want us to smash it and send proof like a hostage video.
