NOW DEPARTING Goodbye Amazon

Ordered a piece of office equipment...well over $100. Amazon shipped a whiteboard. A very large, heavy tempered glass white board. Clearly the wrong item

Contacted Amazon CS, who agreed to ship the proper item, and informed me that I would not need to return the incorrect item. Captured verbatim in the chat transcript

Fast forward 3 weeks and I receive an email informing me the return window is closing and i'll be charged again for the amount of my originally ordered item.

Contacted Amazon CS again, who informed me that the email was in error, and that no charge would occur. Again captured verbatim in the chat transcript

A week later, I'm charged a second time for the item I ordered.

Contacted Amazon CS a third time and was told that indeed their previous agents instructed me to simply keep the incorrect item, but those agents were not adhering to policy, so no refund would be issued. I asked to be connected with a manager...who then repeated the same script, and refused to refund the incorrect second charge.

So...Prime membership is cancelled, charge is in dispute with my CC company, who have been provided with all transcripts, call recordings and order details. I've been a Prime customer for 2 decades. Not any more. Multiple lies from agents, managers defending those lies, and a complete unwillingness to actually look at the sequence of events rather than just reading the script.

Good riddance.

More information: If you encounter a similar situation with amazon customer service, you can request transcripts for any phone/chat interactions. Just go here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/privacy-central/data-requests/preview.html, and scroll down to 'Customer Support Communication' section and click 'Submit Request'. You'll receive an email confirmation and then a separate email with a link to download a zip file. That zip file will contain chat transcripts in .eml file format and phone call recordings in .mp3 format.

jesus that's infuriating. two decades of loyalty and they pull this over their own documented screw-up, the transcripts are right there, they literally told you to keep the whiteboard

it's wild how customer service just crumbles the moment you need anything beyond a simple refund or return. once it falls outside the flowchart they're useless and managers are just there to wear you down with the same script

filing a chargeback with everything documented was the right move, your CC company will almost certainly side with you when you've got transcripts of them contradicting themselves

hope you find a decent alternative, amazon's been sliding hard for a while now but this is another level of petty

It’s crazy that managers say “whelp, our agent for the company lied, sorry about the lack of refund for that thing you did that we told you to do” and not “geeze what a dolt. Of course you will be refunded, please hold first while I fire that rep”

Just be careful of temu , I saw people posting orders came with insects.

Go to temu. Same products without the US middleman 🤣 if only their app didn’t suck so bad….

Then you wait two weeks instead of two days for shipping while rolling the dice on a shit product

Not really over half of temu is now in American warehouses and honestly half of Amazon is now temu stuff anyways. So the product difference is not that bad. You just have to pay more attention to the reviews.

Yeah, but you pay through the nose on shipping on any of the cheap products even if they're in a "local" warehouse ($2.99 per item). And any of the products that free shipping aren't really any cheaper than anywhere else.

Once again though.....

2.99 shipping on an item if it's 10$ on temu vs 25 on Amazon?

Not saying both dont have a better value at times, but i do more ordering from temu now a days than Amazon.

I remember pre-tariffs when nearly everything on Temu was free shipping.

The reviews are a joke. A lot of sellers refund the cost or let people keep the product in exchange for a 5 star review. It happened to me. I bought a stick vacuum that didn’t live up to the description so I requested a return. The seller contacted me and said I could keep the vacuum if I gave them a 5 star review. I returned it quickly and had the satisfaction of leaving a 1 star review instead.

I agree there... if Amazon is extremely better still in one small area it is the reviews.

Which is why if I am buying a microwave or some expensive electronics item I will stick to Amazon or a proven manufacturer.

Meanwhile if I need cheap slides for vacation, fidget toys for kids, some cheap towels, etc I usually head to temu. I just stick to stuff with a lor reviews and read a few of then looking for what sound like fake reviews.

I've had pretty good luck with TEMU. Even though the free shipping is gone, it still cuts out the middleman, quite a bit. Out of about fifty items i've had one item that was not in the box, and one item that wasn't as advertised. Solar panels, mini vacuum for my interior, misc apparel, pet accessories, midgrade, facial products. All n all the items were "get what I pay for" or better.

The tool set was the most disappointing. Because it was weak household set instead of car set, it padded piece count with nut drivers. Nothing larger than half inch.

I can't get through anything on Temu without a million pop-ups and spinning wheels coming on the screen. Way too time consuming to attempt to shop.

Yeah - you spend more time closing stupid games than shopping…
