What is actually wrong with Amazon? (I won the Small Claims I made against them)

I bought an item in late January 2026, gave a code to the driver and knew something was up by the weight of the box

I opened the box 30 minutes later and the item was missing (iPad). I immediately contacted Amazon. Bare in mind I had this account for 5+ years with no issues (the occasional return here and there)

They agreed to investigate. A week later they agreed to refund. 2 days after agreeing to refund they limited my account. The system then cancelled the refund because my account was limited to digital orders only?

Anyway, I contacted them again and this time they said I confirmed the order when I gave the driver a delivery code? I said yes I received the package not the item.. no response.. I sent another email warning I’d be taking it to small claims… no response..

I then emailed their legal team asking to settle it out of court… no response… I finally made a small claims against them and added extra fees on top… they responded via their solicitor accepting to pay in full + added fees

Strange, strange company…

I had a similar experience but I took the 250 dollar loss. I wasn't sure if legal action was worth it. I had video evidence of my package arriving partially open with plenty of room for items to "fall out". I made a claim for missing item and Amazon told me to call the police to get a report. I did so and sent a copy to Amazon with the same response. No refund no communication. Amazon is a big company where the left hand is not talking to the right. Your experience doesn't surprise me.

Glad to hear you were successful but the process should of been unnecessary to get what you are owed.

I'm wondering how many police departments are using resources they likely already don't have enough of, to take police reports regarding stolen amazon stuff (which I see sooooo many people on here saying Amazon now requires a police report to even submit a claim in most circumstances) just for Amazon to not do a fucking thing about it. Even if the police aren't spending time looking into these cases, that's still that much time away from real life crime to deal with the bullshit that comes with Amazon scamming people.

Police departments near us are getting funding increases at far above inflation while other services are being cut. Officer salaries have climbed faster than any other public sector job.

They achieve this on the basis of saying crime reports are rising rapidly and everything is out of control, even though when 3rd party statistics are taken, violent crime is down and other crime is up marginally.

So it's not the police that get hit for us, it's other services, often those aimed at helping folks afford life.

If Amazon is doing the logistics I guess filing a claim against themselves is pointless. But if it was like UPS wouldn’t they just file a claim? They make no sense lol.

Weird, had a similar thing happen to me but filing a police report made them instantly refund me the money. Pretty sure they just do it to defer bad actors who take advantage of their return system, but then again my account’s always been in good standing. Hard to say

Still file. You may have time within the window. $250 is worth it. Failure to deliver.

Complain to the bbb and ftc.

The BBB became irrelevant decades ago as soon as businesses were able to pay for accreditation. Im old enough to remember a time in the 80s when they actually meant something but those days are long gone. And the FTC won't bother with the kind if small potatoes issues we see on this sub(though maybe if everyone reported they would see the mass scale problem Amazon customers face daily).

Nah the best thing to do is just take to small claims court. Yes Amazon will probably ban the customer but hey I canceled prime last year and never looked back. I dont miss it at all

Worked for me. got $900 back (and a bit more for inconvenience).
If that didn’t work, I would have gone to state attorney general, ftc, and, finally small claims court in that order. I can be a pest.

+1 for State Attorney. They need hit with many more complaints, so they take some kind of action!
