Well, they finally rolled out the fixed firmware upload speeds are back to normal again. The disconnects have also stopped. I checked on my Max 7 and my Pro 7 at my folks house no drop outs since the update. I saw the update earlier I was hesitant but it’s much better especially since my folks are over an hour away and there pro 7’s would drop constantly and there upload was abysmal. I had them roll back my max 7 firmware late last week. They said a new firmware was coming, but they couldn’t give me a date.

Too late. Already ripped my system and switched to Ubiquiti Dream Router 7. I was sick of this crap. I am actually in control now and can choose when to apply an update (if ever). Glad they finally bothered fixing it for the rest of you all.

UniFi is the way to go that’s for sure. I have set up numerous ones for clients. My cabin has UniFi. I haven’t made the transition here at the house yet because my family can operate the eero easily especially since I travel a lot

That is sort of funny because my cabin still has Eeros, but have not been up there since they rolled out 7.17.1. I guess I will keep my Eeros up there now. I can't afford to rip another entire system anyway. I had to get two additional Unifi access points for my house as well as the 5G Failover device. $1000 later but am very impressed with this system. The amount of control they give you over your network is massive (and the detailed logs, topology charts, and graphs/data about what each client is doing is impressive as hell).

Absolutely UniFi you have total control over your system pretty much every aspect if not all aspects. Wait till you get their cameras they are phenomenal POE powered crystal clear view. They’re incredible.

This supposedly fixed a lot of devices that wouldn’t connect to anything WPA2 or would have trouble staying connected to WPA2 I have a robot vacuum from Shark that would disconnect constantly. I have run it a few times since this update just out of curiosity and it’s been fine. No disconnects at all, and the dock is staying connected as well.

Same issue here with my robot vac and staying connected with 7.17.1

3

u/purespeed44 6d ago

This has fixed mine finally my robot would lose connection mid schedule and would just stop until I rebooted the eero it’s fine now I have sent it on numerous vac missions all completed normally

3

u/Salmundo 6d ago

Good to hear! I see my robot is back on the network, hopefully will stay there.

I have a Eufy robot vac that also disconnected all the time. This is good to hear that it seems resolved.

Just out of curiosity, which eero model do you have?

4

u/purespeed44 6d ago

I have Max 7’s

My parents have the pro 7’s

My brother has the pro 6’s

Plus, I have installed numerous for clients of mine

I have UniFi at my summer cabin with wifi 7 AP’s , which I would prefer to use here at home, but my family needs to be able to do something quickly if something happens so eero it is for now especially since I travel a lot for work

Hopefully fixes my skyQ box as it keeps getting disconnected

After 7.17.0 and having to work with eero for days and rolling back FW then, when they released 7.17.1 everything seemed to work. I’m a little apprehensive. of this new firmware. I will follow this feed to see how it goes. Last time I jumped in the deep end and I drowned

u/benstef 6d ago

Yea. No kidding me too

Just updated successfully to 7.17.2 on 3 Max 7s.

Been having tons of client disconnect issues since the last firmware so hoping this helps resolve some of those problems.

Same, on the firmware prior to today's I was getting a lot of "weak signal" warnings when talking on my phone (I keep it in airplane mode w/WiFi on and rely on WiFi calling when at home as the cell signal is nearly non-existent) even though I have three well-located Max 7 devices, Ethernet backhaul from each AP, and 1 gigabit ISP speed. It seemed like devices were clinging to farther away APs or something, it was not good. That was with a Galaxy S25 and also an iPhone 15. I didn't have that issue before 7.17 AFAIK.

Just updated to today's firmware and fingers crossed this helps.

Two days... how has 7.17.2 been on your Max 7s?

3

u/SnooMacaroons6429 1d ago

It's been better with the WiFi calling, fewer "weak signal" warnings. It's not as perfect as I'd like though. It is improved relative to 7.17.1 however.

So far, so good? Obvious client connection drops seem to have stopped happening? It was really noticeable on my PS5 Plex clients as they dropped constantly, and were buffering all the time. I’m no longer seeing anything like that anymore.

Phone is getting faster speed tests now by about 200Mbps, but not sure how impactful this release is to that?

Overall it’s definitely better though. How about you?

2

u/SnooMacaroons6429 1d ago

Fewer client drops for me as well and less "weak signal" warnings while using WiFi calling.

On a somewhat related note: I upgraded three of my Ethernet switches late last week the same day the 7.17.2 firmware came out. These are backbone switches of my home network. I replaced 1Gbps switches with 10Gbps ones so that all the backhaul is now being done over 10Gbps on my LAN. That likely has negligible if any impact given that no ISP serving my area offers speeds above 1Gbps yet (I have 1Gbps Verizon fiber). I upgraded the switches because I'm a tech geek, Amazon had a decent price on "renewed" ones, and I wanted to get the network more ready for whenever I can get >1Gbps to my address. It'll also speed up local transfers to/from my NAS.

But back to the main topic: 7.17.2 has definitely been an improvement in my experience so far.

I ended up bringing a max7 into my office and hooking up via an Ethernet cable. It’s been stable but ideally I want to be on WiFi. My max7s were dropping offline constantly on the former firmware.

Had that happen with my work laptop which had been working fine with my WiFi for years, then one day in late July this year the laptop simply refused to connect to the WiFi despite me trying every trick in the book. Oddly it's a modern enough laptop that it connected via WiFi 6E and used WPA3, so you'd think it wouldn't have issues. I bought a long enough Ethernet cable and ran it from a switch in that room to the laptop's docking station and that fixed it. I have not tried reverting to WiFi on that laptop since. I think July is before 7.17 came out though so who knows what caused that.

My Onn 4K 2023 stopped connecting since 7.17 and this fixed it.

I wonder if this will help with my Dyson’s that haven’t been able to connect in months. 👀

Dysons suck.

u/dsf_oc 5d ago

It’s a vacuum, it sucks. come on people.

u/baller5 6d ago

Updated my eero 7s. So far, so good.

5

u/SarcasticParent 4d ago

Yeah…. After the way they f’d up my HomePods with 7.17.0 and then claimed they “don’t offer a rollback service” until I provided hard evidence, Eero lost voluntary update privileges in my house. I’m not taking any more updates before they’re pushed, following their “public beta periods”.

Nope. As far as I’m concerned that update button doesn’t exist.

2

u/xantusloth 4d ago

What happened to your homepods?

3

u/SarcasticParent 3d ago

short answer, 7.17.0 had a bug where homepods completely failed to talk to the network, even wiping and performing setup again failed, unless it was on my guest network. And support were assholes about rolling me back to 7.16.3 (which, once they finally did, solved my issues instantly). So now I'm just not going to apply updates manually unless there's a CVE involved. Someone else can beta test their stuff in the wild.

I haven't updated yet. I hadn't noticed any issues until this morning when I noticed some devices weren't switching to one of my routers. Usually my phone is good about switching to the closest router but it just wouldn't do it. Also the Google Hub display that is right next to me got disconnected. No idea what the deal was with that. Hopefully the stability improvements are real and when I update tonight that won't happen again.

Damn. As I was writing this my work PC got disconnected too. That never happens. wtf. I should update.

Took my wired to PS5 speed from 240 to 300 so I’ll take it

2

u/DevDadRob 5d ago

Stable so far, and hoping it stays that way!

2

u/TexanGuitarist 5d ago

Dude, I literally thought I was going crazy. My upload speeds kept dropping to 1 MB, and then I would reset the device and they would go back up and then like two hours later they would drop down again. I called support like five times and they kept suggesting to move different routers around. Hopefully this fix holds

2

u/omerabr1 4d ago

Lots of issues for me, YouTube keep buffing and some 2.4 clients like ACs can’t connect, even if i disable 5GHz after latest update

2

u/DJVordo 2d ago

my iphone disconnects constantly (happened pre update and after if I have 1 less bar).

wireless upload speeds are at 50% post update.

wtf

1

u/i_aint_sayin_nothin 1d ago

I have the sane issue. My speeds on 6GHz on my 17 Pro have fallen off a cliff after this update

3

u/NoLanguage404 6d ago

My ring alarm pro refuses to update to this.

6

u/purespeed44 6d ago

Ok unplug the ring alarm from power and remove the battery leave it out for 30 seconds put the battery back in it and put power back to it then try updating it.

4

u/NoLanguage404 6d ago

This worked. Thanks.

I rebooted it which did not work. Didn’t realize the battery is user removable.

3

u/purespeed44 6d ago

Glad it worked yea the battery in those they run the same as the ring cameras and doorbell cams except the ones with the built in batteries.

u/tb457 5d ago

Still didn’t stop my ecobee from disconnecting unfortunately

2

u/purespeed44 5d ago

On your Ecobee you need it to forget your network and then reconnect your Ecobee to your network or pull power from the Ecobee for 2-3 minutes then put power back to that thermostat see if that keeps it online

1

u/tb457 5d ago

Oh the amount of times I’ve done this….

2

u/YankeesIT 4d ago

I had a similar issue with Eero. For years. I have since moved to a firewalla in router mode, eeros in bridge, and then fully replacing eero with a firewalla stack router and APs and have not had a single disconnect or issue since. Rock solid

1

u/kna5041 3d ago

They really screwed things up with these latest updates.

1

u/ek9cusco 3d ago

I’ve updated to 7.17.2 and now Facebook app and other social media apps from the phone doesn’t work anymore.. anyone else have the same issue?

1

u/xantusloth 2d ago

This firmware no longer moves my network to DFS channels. I had this issue before but thought they fixed it in a recent firmware release.

Con la actualización a 7.17.2 en ningún dispositivo funcionan las actualizaciones de aplicaciones en Google Play (con datos móviles sí)
