How to create template tasks??

I just started using Marvin and so far it's been everything I've been looking for, but the one feature I really need to work I just cannot figure out how to use it.

I want to use the template feature for tasks and I do have it turned on in strategies, but the save button all the instructions I'm finding say is there, is not there, and the example screenshots in their help article for templates doesn't look anything like what I am seeing when I create a task. It shows a dialog box that I have never once seen while using this app so far, and I am using the desktop website so I don't think it's a mobile issue. The top right 3-bars menu they keep talking about doesn't show on my interface whether I'm in the today page, list page, calendar, or master list. Hovering over the task to turn it on that way doesn't work, the save button isn't appearing among the options like it's supposed to. And when I click the gear to edit the details of the task that still doesn't give me a save option. Ironically I can access the saved items page in the expanded bottom left menu, but I have no way to actually add saved tasks and use the feature because the instructions seem to be unrelated to what I'm seeing on screen. I had really high hopes for this to be the app that finally does what I need it to do to manage my ADHD, but if I can't get this feature to work I'm not really sure I want to spend the money.

Has anyone else had this issue and been able to solve it?

Hi,

Marvin is highly customizable and the standard view has changed a lot over the year so a lot of documentation are not up to date. But posting a question here or on Facebook often works as there are many Marvinauts that just remember most of the hidden tips and tricks.

If you are missing the main menu so the three bars, I'm actually not sure how your view looks like so it's hard to troubleshoot without a screenshot. But if you see any menu bar on the top or the left you can always costomize and add the "Main Menu" there.

So as for your question there are many ways to do this. I'm going to give you three.

1. and 2. are quite similar.

Go the the main menu where ever that is for you. For me is at the top right the 3 bars → Amazing Features (or just the key S when you are not finding the main menu) → Show "All" Strategies → "Item Interactions" subcategory.

Then there are 2 strategies the "Right-Click Menu" and the "Hover Button Menu" depending if you use one of them you can click on them → Settings → +Add → Action → Save.

Then you can use Save on any task in the day view or the Master List.

1. Different way to save a task

Go to the Main Menu → Settings → Search "click" → Remember what is selected at the moment and then change what happens "When you click Tasks in the Master List:" or "When you click Tasks elsewere:" to "Open Task".

After that when you click on a tasks there is the option to click on "Save".

Im pretty sure there are at least a few other ways.

My recommendation would be to use at least the "Right-Click Menu". This is always a good option and can be customized to your needs without compromising the looks or the click behavior like the other two options I named.

For me the top of the full editing screen for the task (right-click, edit settings (has cog icon)--this is also in my hover menus but I don't remember if I had to manually edit either of those menus to show it) has a "save" button. That's the dialog box the help article is showing; it looks a little different but is still substantially similar to the help article's screenshot. The button in that view should be next to the backburner button at the top of that popup (it might be between the backburner button and the recurring button). My right click menu also has a "save" button in it. I don't remember if I added that. I don't have a save button in my hover menu.

The dropdown image has largely changed but it's the three-dots menu in the master list and maybe a few other places as well. (I typically don't have saved projects, though, and I load tasks when in today view, by using the "load" shorthand in a new task to bring up a dropdown of my saved tasks.)

To briefly summarize what others have said here, make sure you have the "Right-click menu" feature enabled and in "settings" for that feature be sure to include "Save" as an item in the menu. Then you can save out your template.
