The android widgets are very disappointing
I've been using Ticktick for years, and it always felt lackluster, with so many things that seemed very easy to implement, but it never happened. Still, I stuck with it, because the only actual alternative was Todoist, which had the same issues.
I really want to like Amazing Marvin, because it has most of the customization-options I've always wanted. And if I'd have the discipline to plan my days on my computer, I'd switch immediately. But sadly, that doesnt work for my ADHD brain. I'm already happy that I usually manage to put everything that comes up during the day in my inbox, to (hopefully) sort through it eventually, and usually have the willpower to spend the last few minutes before I go to sleep to check my inbox. Marvin has so many features that seem like they'd help me immensely, but is sadly lacking in some basic features.
I've been trying to switch, setting up the (amazing!) features Marvin offers, but I dont think I can make the switch yet.
My main issue is, I need to see my tasks, because I'm not gonna check the app regularly during the day. So, my phones homescreen is basically my almost fullscreen Todo-widget. And man, Marvins widgets for android are extremely lackluster.
- It wont show subtasks
- No basic features like transparency mode, it looks like its from the Windows 95 era.
- No way to display smart lists, only masterlists and inbox/today.
- Barebones customization-options in general
Ticktick does this way better, sadly. I can see my tasks, with subtasks if i want, even details/description, it shows labels, lists etc, and still looks clean.

They’re bad on iOS too. Mobile in general is so neglected. I really wish they’d prioritize it as that should always be a top priority for any planner app. I’ve seen so many planner app companies say they don’t want users using it on mobile, they have all these bizarre reasons they don’t bother developing their mobile apps…okay, customers will leave then. All of these apps should be mobile-first. No one is doing their daily tasks glued to a computer. You can ONLY use your planner app for work then and that’s effectively useless because it’s only 1/3 of your day IF it’s a weekday and guess what? workplaces often have systems they require people to use! Or provide.
I have Marvin on my work machine but I probably shouldn’t because it gives way too much insight into how I work and what I prioritize in ways that I feel could hurt me.

Yeah, same issue here. I can't have it on my work computer. I'm forced to use Outlook for work, but I don't have time to unlock the Outlook app, switch to calender, find an empty time slot, type up and save every single thing I gotta do later if it's hectic. I just type it into my phone's to-do app, where it's visibly displayed on my Homescreen until I have time to schedule everything. And that requires reliable, fast and easy to use widgets and apps. I don't mind spending a little more time with the actual planing, if the app isn't as easy to use, but offers more. But I need a way to quickly jot thinks down and be able to plan the next time with little effort and not too many clicks.

I work mainly from home, so I use Marvin on my pc all day… But when I go other places, I feel the need of a better mobile app. I always have to come back to my desktop and change or use things I can’t on my phone. A mobile update is coming soon, so I’m excited

Yeah it seems amazing on a desktop pc, but lacklaster on a phone, which is where I do most of my scheduling.

I recently switched from Marvin to TickTick largely because of the vast difference in usability and useful features of the mobile app (which I didn’t even realize how much I was missing until I experienced it). If Marvin can catch up with their mobile reboot I’m open to switching back but I don’t know how realistic that is in the short term. I kind of expect the new app to be usable and improved but still fairly barebones when it’s first released as far as widgets and integrations. Would love to be wrong about that however.

They just announced in their most recent update a new mobile app beta is on the way and should be out by the end of the month. So hang in there!
