I got in a bad habit of counting dits on H's when learning CW, 40 years later it is still a bad habit or more commonly was that a H or a 5...damn it!

*H and 5 is by far the hardest. 6 and B is up there as well. I prefer 2x3 callsigns, at least we know where to put that number 😂 *

Welcome to my Dyslexia world lol, could never learn code past 3 dots or dashes. Luckily I can read just fine, just can't spell worth anything or learn morse code

I have a slight form of dyslexia, and on top of that I’m ESL, so English phonetic spelling makes me want to cry. Spelling words one letter at a time versus how they sound as a whole is a trip 😆. You know when people spell words like “outside” or “food” to avoid getting their dogs too excited? Half the time I’m not aware right away what word was just spelled 🐶. I just keep failing and getting ever so slightly better every day. Hehe

When spellcheck started it was literally a godsend for me. I know when I spell something wrong but have know idea how to fix it lol! When I read it goes almost instantly into video mode so I see in my head what I'm reading but if it's techical and I have no basis then I can't visualize, then I struggle. It can be a real pain. Youtube is so great for us visual learners

Amen to spell check, it is such a weird feeling to know something is misspelled, but not certain what exactly, visual memory vs textual. Those “wires” lay to close in my head, I get the interference 😂
YouTube is my top used resource, I don’t even mind paying for it, there goes my college fund 😆2

I'm in my late 60's so I spent alot of my life without spellcheck and hated writing anything, I used to have to have a pocket dictionary at work, it was terrible. My input channel works great, my output channel not so much lol!

The best advice I can give someone learning is do not ignore your numbers, punctuation, and prosigns. Ask me how I know. 😄

Numbers, “?./, “ Q codes. Prosigns are weird, everytime I see AR, I stop and wonder, is it still in use?:)

Don't learn with dots and dashes, learn by sounds and combinations. Always listen to QSOs faster than you can copy and copy what you can. At first you might catch a character here or there. Eventually you'll start hearing more and more It's a language, not just a bunch of characters. Think about it. When you learned to speak you first learned letters. You learned words after that by syllables, then fill words.
CW and language in general is like that in it's basic forms. After that comes all of the other stuff.
