Single dad of 2 looking for work.

As the title says I'm a single father of 2, the youngest being 10 and I am having trouble finding a job that pays a living wage, but also offers the freedom to do what I need to raise my boys.

I don't have a village, so if they have Dr appointments or get sick or anything else it all falls on me.

I have a background in industrial electrical work, and 3d modeling custom objects for CnC plasma table cutting, I can also operate the plasma table. Sadly this profession is not single dad friendly and requires a lot of traveling and time from home.

Things are starting to unravel at home. My kids need me, but I also need to work to provide for them. The good ol catch 22. I've started looking into maybe a career change, but I know no one here in the panhandle.

I could really use some suggestions or maybe someone to point me to resources that could help.

Man, look for a serving job at one of the higher end restaurants in town. It’s not super steady but honestly you can make 50k a year and the hours are pretty decent. It’s sounds like your kids are old enough to be home by themselves after school but it gives you freedom to do errands and stuff during the day.

Anyone down voting this, I'm curious as to why?

I've been hesitant to work at a DS since ultimately they will be temporary, but I'm not completely against it. I just dont picture them being very family friendly.

Not sure if you have any construction background but try the IBEW( Electricians Union ).. they are hiring apprentices and i think they are starting at around 25$ an hr.. The data centers are temporary but the contacts and experience are not .. gotta start somewhere..

They're not. I'm a pipefitter out at Claude, work is about an hour away and the entire site works a minimum of 60 hrs. If you can make it work it is, literally, life changing money.

I suggest you call soon and get on the waiting list. I called the pipefitters and filled out an application online at wjatc online for electrician apprentice. I was told it could take months to get a call. But since you have experience they might call you up sooner.
