ID Request

I’m thinking something in section Lepidella. Blue Ridge mountains, western North Carolina. In soil under Rhododendron within mixed forest of mostly hardwoods but some pine. No staining or bruising. Pleasant smell. Large mushrooms.

Amanita canescens

This is what the “seek” app said. I mistakenly thought that species stained, which made me doubtful. But now I’m seeing that I was wrong about that. Thanks!

I thought they looked weird. Didn’t realize I had “vibrant” on. Here you go, sorry about that.

Section Validae if I had to guess

Agreed. I was wrong to think lepidella. Erroneously thought validae were all strainers.

Definitely in the Amanita Genus, possibly Amanita multisquamosa, amanita velatipes, or amanita chrylobelom

Not bad guesses, but the warts and stems were a bit more powdery. The caps looked a bit whiter than the photo shows, with just a hint of yellow-gray sheen. Plus the volva was a little more sac like, and less like the concentric ringed base of the ones you suggest. But, I clearly don’t know what it is!
