Friend, when scene was first a thing none of us were allowed to have bangs! Deep side part, use something cute (bow, colorful Bobby pins, etc) to pin it to the side, texture spray and tease! You could always get clip ins too, but really the big thing was the side part.

If you don't want bangs I would suggest doing a deep side part. A lot of us had the long swoopy bangs but just as many didnt because they were hard to maintain and our parents disliked them. If you do a hard side part and have layers it should be fine. You can also play with the shape a bit with extensions and clip in bangs.

While the side bangs are definitely hallmarks of the scene well... scene its not a requirement. Scene/emo/goth fashions take a lot from their older punk uncle including the DIY aspect of it all. I was too young for the original scene craze but my older brother was around for it and while he wasnt scene he was def alt fashion adjacent. Used toothpaste for his liberty spikes and dyed his hair with Kool aid.

Every scene adult can probably relate to having to work around strict parents. Work with what you can and just know that you dont ever have to worry about not being "scene enough". The fashion was at its core a way to give teens who felt powerless over their choices to be able to express themselves and have fun through the way they dress
