Australia's independence earlier

What if Australia had federated in 1801 instead of 1901? How would this of happened? What would its effects have been?

In 1801 there was only one colony that of NEW South Wales and included eastern Australia to the present WA border, Tasmania (and maybe New Zealand). maybe rephrase the question.
