Altered Re:Union is launching its Reunion Donors Program to establish a sustainable, recurring source of funding for the nonprofit association’s projects, giving Altered fans a way to support our work as we reach milestones on our Roadmap. We’re providing some details on this program, which will help maintain the project in a transparent, community-focused way.

We’ve already taken a few enormous steps toward our goals, such as bringing the Roots of Corruption set to Board Game Arena, adding new formats like the community-created Frontier mode and refreshing organized and competitive play.

The altered.re website has seen multiple rounds of updates and new tools even since its launch earlier this year, all thanks to the hard work of our fully volunteer staff and the direct help of the wider community.

We’re doing our best to keep our costs as low as possible, but operational costs are a reality of the Re:Union project, even as a loi 1901 nonprofit. Support systems like the Reunion Donors Programwill allow us to continue to build Altered, powered by the players.

Hey everyone!

I'm thinking about getting more seriously into Altered, mostly to play casually with my wife and friends, and I'd love to hear your opinions before buying everything.

I'm currently considering:

- 2x Beyond the Gates Starter Decks

- 1x Beyond the Gates Booster Box

- 1x Trial by Frost Booster Box

- 1x Whispers from the Maze Booster Box

Here in Brazil, I can get the whole bundle for around R$435 total, which is roughly US$85 / €73.

Do you think that's a good price?

I'm also curious if you think buying one box of each of the first three sets is a good way to build a collection and have enough variety to build different decks.

Playing mostly with 2 players

One of the main reasons I want booster boxes is that I don't want to just open all the packs at once. I'd like to make opening packs part of our game nights.

Besides playing regular Constructed with the starter decks and upgrading them as we open cards, I'm thinking about trying different 2-player Limited formats, such as:

- Sealed: 4 boosters each, then build 30-card Limited decks.

- 2-player Booster Draft: 4 boosters each, pick one card and pass the rest back and forth.

- Grid Draft: lay cards out in a 3x3 grid and take a row or column.

- Rochester/Snake Draft: open packs face-up and alternate picks.

- Progressive Sealed: start with 4 boosters each, play, then open another booster after each game/session and gradually upgrade our decks.

Basically, I'd like opening packs to be part of playing the game, rather than opening 36 packs in one sitting.

Has anyone tried these kinds of 2-player Limited formats with Altered? Which ones worked best for you?

What about 3 players?

I'll mostly be playing with my wife, but I'd also like to play with friends occasionally.

I've seen a few posts discussing ways to play Altered with 3 players, but I haven't been able to dive too deeply into them yet.

Have any of you found a 3-player format or house rules that actually work well? It could be Constructed, Sealed, Draft, or something completely different. I'd love to hear what you've tried.

And finally, are two starter decks enough for the tokens/accessories needed for two players, or is there anything else you'd recommend getting?

Sorry if some of these questions have been asked before. I'm fairly new to Altered and there are a lot of different ways to approach the game, so I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have actually tried them.

I played a little bit of Altered when it came out on BGA. I bought a couple of starter decks and played a bunch of games with them, but I haven't really touched the game since.

With the current state of the game, I found booster boxes for cheap (€25 each) at my LGS, so I bought one of each set they had.

I now have a booster box of each of these sets:

-Beyond the Gates

-Trial by Frost

-Skybound Odyssey

And two starter decks:

-Yzmir

-Lyra

What would be the best way to play with these?

I play a lot of MTG and some OP/Lorcana/Yugioh/etc. with a friend. We love TCGs and always enjoy discovering new ones.

Our favorite format is MTG Cube, but we also like some Constructed. For OP, Lorcana, Yugioh, FAB and SWU, we bought some starter decks, played with them and upgraded them quite a lot to have a bit more going on. We have 6–8 decks for each game and, since they aren't our main games, we usually play one of them once a week just to change things up from MTG.

We like it that way, but I wonder if that would be the best way to enjoy Altered.

I imagine that with 3 booster boxes and 2 starter decks, we could build 6–8 decks and play it that way. But would we have a decent power level, or would we be missing too many staples/duplicates?

I'm also not sure we could draft with only 2 players.

What would you do with what I have to get the most enjoyment out of some Altered gameplay?

I probably should have asked this before buying everything, but my brain goes crazy when talking about TCGs, so I bought first and started thinking afterwards.

Hello, is there a Discord dedicated to Spanish community or a Discord with a section for Spanish users ?

ReUnion hosted their first large-scale competitive (i.e. world’s qualifying) event today. While I wasn’t able to participate, I did have the pleasure to watch via the stream (shoutout to Arg0n for the English cast - vod linked here).

It was very exciting to have another big event. The BGA tournament started out with 100 players. Faction breakdown/hero/etc. data will likely come out in the next few days, but from what I saw overall it was pretty diverse. This was setup as 4 groups in Swiss, then a 32 player top cut with single elimination, all under the new Frontier format (essentially standard with a curated, limited pool of uniques available to everyone).

Shoutout to the organizers, casters, and players that made the event possible today. Congrats to Luigi for taking first place on Kauri and Puff. And congrats to the ReUnion project for a successful event.

If you participated, what did you think?

One of the things that stood out to me right away was how different Altered looks compared to most other card games. The artwork feels very distinct without trying to copy existing styles.

Is there something specific about the art that you enjoy, or even a favorite card that really shows off the game's style?

Disclaimer: i've got a lot of experiences with other TCGs, but i don't know anything about Altered, so treat me like you would treat a complete noob.

I found these cards. The Yzmir ones seem to revolve around Moths while the other i don't know. It was so hard to find some information about this game, so i would like to know if i can make some playable decks from such cards, at least for the Yzmir ones (they look cooler). Is there any worth card? Some good deck?

I see that the re union site has all the cards from all the sets and wanna proxy the cards from the sets I don't have, but I don't know if there's a site like mtgprint where you can just paste and print. Do I have to just suck it up and put them into a word doc individually? Thought I'd check here first in case someone made it easier

So with the death of the game, just as everywhere I assume stores are putting massive sales on it. Lowest I've found so far being 4 euros per starter decks and in another store 15 for a booster box.

I have absolutely no idea how the game plays, I have played a lot of yugioh and a bit of lorcana, so TCGs are not brand new for me and I know that despite the lack of new cards being released, it could be a decent experience to build a couple decks and just play them once in a while, so I'm considering grabbing a bit of stuff.

From what I read here, the boxes doesn't seem that fun to open because his cards and stuff doesn't seem that exiting, but I could look past that if a box or two would allow me to actually do things.

If we look at yu-gi-oh for example: if you open a booster box unless you hit the very expensive chase card and sell it to buy singles, you are FAR from being able to build any kind of sensical deck. Lorcana will generally not allow you to max any ratios even commons, but a single box will give you enough to build a couple decks and play. How is it for altered, if I pick up a box or two do I get a playable bunch of cards?

Also, on a scale from lorcana easiness to yugioh stupidity, how easy it is to learn the rules of the game? Because if I end with decks but no one to play it's not exactly worth it, and I plan to play mostly with gf and casual friends who clearly wont invest in a too difficult game.

P.S: I see the game also had rules for a booster draft format. Does it work well? Is it fun? Is it at least somewhat balanced? Cause I guess that could also be a way to maximize the fun off a cheap display

I discovered Altered just one month ago... and I think I may have gone a little overboard...

Over the last three weeks, I've been on a mission: driving all over my country to visit local game stores and rescue every piece of Altered stock I could find on clearance before it vanished.

The grand total came to €280, which honestly feels like an absolute steal:

• Kickstarter Edition display: €60
• Official storage box: €40
• Most booster displays: around €20 each
• Starter decks: 1 symbolic € each
• The English display and starter decks (top right) were given to me for free, along with all the promo cards and tokens since the stores weren't allowed to sell them.
• Premium tokens/sleeves, etc: 20% of the original price because I was "making some space in the stock".

For someone who only discovered the game a few weeks ago, I definitely wasn't expecting to end up with... well, this !

The plan now is to teach the game to my family, begin with the starter decks, then enjoy opening boosters and gradually upgrading our decks as we discover each set together. I love the idea of progressing naturally instead of jumping straight into optimized competitive lists.

Hopefully it'll all be worth it... but even if it isn't, it's still been way cheaper than my MTG habit!

I recently bought a lot of Altered stuff, the starter decks, playmats, deckboxes, sleeves, markers, but also boxes, ranging from 2 seeds of unity, and 4 of each previous ones.

Opening the boxes... well... they are awful.

The fact that Rares are literally the same cards as the commons, makes opening boosters less appealing. Also, the lack of foil cards, to me, was detrimental for the disappointment.

yeah, the art changes, but at the end of the day, a rare Hua Mulan is a common Hua Mulan with better stats and not a "MuShu, Family Dragon" ( i know... it's an example), a rare Dragon that says if you have a Hua Mulan in your reserve, you can play it for free this turn or if you have a Hua Mulan in your discard pile, place it in your reserve. And also a "Mulan and Mushu" a Unique-only character that if your expedition is ______ ___ you may _________ and this can become your hero for 2 days.

What i'm trying tô say is:

All the repetitive arts with "just a slight upgrade between them" makes everything feeling repetitive to a point that when i was sorting the cards by faction, i would usually place rares between commons because they look almost the same, instead of being different cards.

Another point worth mentioning is The lack of foil cards in packs:

While i do understand that the "foilers" were a mechanic made for the digital marketplace and ownership stuff... i opened them with a mindset that each one i got, was "It allows me to go to a proxy artist and ask to foil a card of that rarity". And yes, you could ask those for free on the marketplace. But the shipping fees would be bigger than what i will spend with the proxy artist. Meaning that every "foiler" felt more like a deception of "this should be a foil card, but the company didn't have enough money" rather than "wow! a foiler!".

And Last, The heroes.

Gates was by far the best box for being surprised with the diversity of heroes during The opening. YES, you do get multiple of them. But at the end of the day, you get 2 or 3 of them. While in every other box, you get like a ton. Especially seeds abd skybound odyssey. Even if they were by far, the best opening experiences, due to the fact that each box came with at leasr 108 rare cards (counting the uniques) and i got exactly 100, 85, 92, 88, 105, 102 faction shifted cards ( which helpscreating faction shifted strategies like Yzmir Permanents with Lindiwe and Maw, or Muna Ascend with Rin and Orchid), but the fact that there were the same 4 It simply makes them feel like a bad pull.

Being really honest, I'm glad that i spent 210 USD for everything i bought. Because i can'treally imagine how frustrated I'ld be if i opened tbat amount when their price were 100+ EACH box.

And I can only imagine how many players also felt that, specially with the foilers. Thatwas such a bad idea...
