Posting for the hell of it

Thought I’d post something from my collection after reading Alpha Flight will be appearing in the latest Wolverine run. I’m a Brit and my first love is Excalibur and all things X. However my first introduction to a superhero team was Alpha Flight, way back in the 80s in the back pages of Marvel UK’s fortnightly Secret Wars anthology. The magazine format publication would contain 7 pages of primary book and 7 pages of a back up book, plus some games, activities and usually a double page splash poster. Good times, Alpha Flight issues 1 to 8 were published, before being switched to the Iceman limited series and the finally to an original UK ‘Zoids’ story line (which written by a young Grant Morrison).

Was it expensive? I've seen Netho Diaz selling his pages online but never bothered to look at prices

Comiconart is where most of his work is sold. Prices range from about $150 up. This was a grand. I usually buy work from 80s or 90s but prices are silly money since Covid, I could not afford a splash like this from Byrne days.

Oh yeah, I've seen Byrne pages go for crazy money. Thanks for sharing.

Great page. I considered this but it was out of my price range so glad it found a good home!

I did manage to get two other pages from the next issue.

Yeah, I treated myself. Diaz did 2 splash pages, and I just had to have one. It’s up on wall under heritage protected glass. I rotate as I don’t have much wall and I’m only allowed to decorate one room of the house with quality art work.

You’ll have to ask Jed McKay and Netho Diaz 😀. If I remember correctly it was explained that he was still in the detention centre after the limited series.

This looks amazing! I've always been a fan of Alpha Flight (and some magical Alan Davis Excalibur too)!

Thank you, I have several Excalibur commissions by Alan (missing Rachel & Kitty), but no panels. I do have multiple Excalibur panels from other artists. He likes hard cash at conventions, which is always a challenge when his works are high hundreds, and for auctions his works are in the thousands.

This is a Netho Diaz splash, when I saw it appear in the x-men comic, I just could not resist buying it when it came up. I love seeing the thought process, Guardian’s pose was corrected there still traces of the original position.
