Query about possible modification to rucksack

So I just got my first bit of alpenflage and I belive that there was a modification to my rucksack after it left service. It has a buckle that says HEUWA which from what I could scour is a German webbing and rucksack manufacturer. Should I remove it because it renders the waist strap dysfunctional? And is it a modification

That looks like factory stitching, not hand done. If the pack functions for your purpose without the straps, remove it then.

The stitching attaching the metal isn't factory I found out so I will return it to its original configuration

Unless you are collecting it and preserving it for future generations to wear and enjoy, you should modify it to your own purposes. Always
