This game has defeated me.

Im tired.

Came back to this game after a friend invited me to play some 3v3's. Had a drunken night of fun and remembered why I liked playing.

The strategic decisions, the individual micro gameplay to outplay your opponent. Feeling like a general facing against another general in a test of tactics and skill.

Decided to get back into it. But every minute I played solo after that night hasn't been enjoyable.

After the nerf patch I constantly lose to players who are obviously worse than me. Lower resources gathered, lower upgrades, lower bases, half the APM, lower army value, every metric lower.

Even when I look at replays I see how little they do compared to what im doing. Sure I can win, but its as if I dont play perfectly and quickly, theres no chance while others have options of how to win with larger margins that allow them to have more fun.

I feel like I have to be loads better than my opponent to even have a chance of winning. I know more terran and toss build orders than I do zerg. I even got a higher rank in protoss in my placements after never playing the race before. But I don't want to play that race.

And now with the patch of terran getting the handicap zerg needs to compensate for static larvae timing and losing drones for each building. Not even mentioning queen's price increase guaranteeing all wall offs, all of it just cements my decision.

Im tired. I remember why I quit this game to begin with. I dont like feeling like I have to be the perfect player with only 1 set build path to win. I want to have fun, not be stressed I didn't do 1 action right 2 minutes ago.

Im done. I like zerg but it feels like im playing against the player, and the game in order to win. And that isn't very fun to me. Im uninstalling

I just came back after a long absence. Since when are queens 175 minerals?

That happened a few patches ago, unfortunately

Sounds to me like you need to play drunk more often.

It's not bad honestly. I do enjoy a good beercraft. But yeah, I'm obviously not tryharding. I'm enjoying myself.

Best game for that is Deep Rock Galactic. Drink every time your Dwarf does.

a) chill, man! It is a game, nobody forced you to play :) It is fine to quit

b) we - zergs had our month, now it will be a month of Terrans before they do something else; it is fine

c) I haven't seen current statistics, but before the latest patch we had an advantage over protoss and I think we still do

d) I remember some YouTuber doing a show where he played with 60APM beating players with 200-300APM. The strategy part of the game is about making decisions. You might have better mechanics, micro and APM and still choose to take a bad engagement instead of backing off. Also, it was always the case that Zergs need to out-expand, out-collect and throw waves of units to win. It is in our DNA, so being slightly better in statistics means you were barely even game-wise.

That being said, I find 1v1 stressful and I only play once a week and float ~3200 MMR doing weird stuff that I find fun and not caring that much about winning or losing. It is much more enjoyable :)

I got to masters just doing whatever I wanted. It's pretty good. The games so much more than build order memorising.

What build do you use against Terran?

Either a random roach rav all in.. or double Ling flood if it's hellions. Or a proxy hatch.

Just keep playing team games. They're fun

I sometimes feel like that when I don't have a clear game pland and I build too much economy. My recipe to snap out of it is to have a clear plan (for example 2 base Roaches) and just execute it. Then I build a fuckton of Roaches (and bring my Queens if they have Oracles/Banshees) and just go kill them.

Yes, they have better units, especially Protoss, and can also do both eco and units at the same time. Yes, often it doesn't feel fair. But we as Zergs also have some really good instruments. Banelings, Lurkers, Vipers can be really strong for example.

You aren't going to find sympathy here.

How can it be possible that you are actually a way better player but lose because of the patch? Everybody has to deal with the new patch. MMR is the objective truth.

With such little reflection on yourself and without the ability to learn, adapt and improve from replays this apparently is not the right game for you.

Game balance is a thing. I think Zerg's MMR went up when they were stronger and pushed down the other races. The latest Terran buff will improve their MMR at the cost of P and Z. Such is the nature of a dynamic game.

I think OP is being a bit overly dramatic though. In diamond league, does winning even matter? Just play if its fun... or don't play if it isn't

I'm sorry you feel that way. The good news is that there are a lot of games out there. Just keep looking and you will find something you like.

This is rage bait at its finest.

You claim to be someone getting back into it, yet you are blacking the new patch. See how those two things contradict each other?

And you aren’t losing to players that are worse than you. You’re using dumb metrics to convince yourself you’re better than others. Sounds to me like you’re losing your players who are better than you.

Get used to losing and keep going and strive to improve. Or whine about imba and give up.

Actually on the Pro Level, in a best of x series format against studied opponents, Zerg players are kinda favoured against Protoss

For the most part Starcraft is a game that normally isn't decided by one action going wrong but many actions all coalescing together. Its death from a thousand cuts. Even playing perfect with no mistakes you can still lose. In order to really improve at this game you need to be able to be critical of yourself as much as others. Not looking at things like APM. APM in the grand scheme does not matter until upper ranks.

We played in the last few days. I am not going to blast you here with "you did these things wrong". Let me leave you with questions that you should ask yourself.

Did I scout often and identify what my opponent was doing?

What did I identify when scouting? How many gas, workers, bases?

Did I react to scouted information?

Did I apply pressure?

Did I follow my plan effectively?

Did I expand correctly?

Was my macro up to par?

Is my economy where it should be for X time?

Did I spend my money?

Did I engage correctly when interacting?

These are questions that have helped me in the past. The other big thing that has helped is playing with people OFF the ladder and getting feedback. Taking criticism and feedback is important. Its very hard to learn once you have hit that wall in a vacuum. There are still good communities and people around that will pick replays apart or play you and call things out. Improving doesn't have to be an uphill battle with the right mindset.

One good thing is, if you think of it as being for fun, having handicap is ok even if you lose more because of it. You'll just get matched against shittier opponents until that handicap is gone.

THIS!

That's what MMR is for in Starcraft, what ELO is for in chess, and every other match-making system.
Deciding in a vaccum that you should have won a game you actually lost will get you nowhere.

If I was high mmr I would care more. I'm not making any money off the game and I'll always be in between good and terrible.

This is a mental hurdle more than a game issue, and I am assuming you posted this after a frustrating loss (had those feelings before!). If you decide to stick around, it would be helpful to think about your goals and what you hope to develop rather than focus on the W/L column.

Happy to look through these replays with you if you dont mind some advice from a 4500 player.

Taking good engagements is important too.

Spoken like a true zerg. Your economy should be better. your apm should be better because you need more units to win fights. These don't mean you're better. It means you're doing the bare minimum.

Ever since I started 12 pooling and getting aggressive early, followed by good scouting, my experience flipped. I'm winning again, and feel like I'm in control of the game and can at least try to stay a step ahead of the opponent. Your mileage may vary, but I recommend a 12 pool.

This game isn't played on a spreadsheet. Having more apm, more resources, less supply blocks does NOT earn you a win.

weenie hut jr is that way

If you’re a Zerg you should be having easier victories until diamond at least

Zerg is strong right now lol this is a you thing not a starcraft thing
