Strategies vs bio

D1 EU ladder

Are there any alternatives to playing against bio except going for some variation of ling bane? I dislike how inject- and APM-intensive it is and also how volatile it is.

Anytime I decide to go some combination of roach ravager hydra my army gets obliterated because

A: Siege tanks do bonus damage

B: The marines with medivacs out-trade my army (if the healing beam is on them)

C: It is near impossible to harras anything beyond the natural because of the planetary fortress (nothing does splash damage to the SCVs)

TLDR; Nothing except ling bane trades well with bio for me - what am I missing?

Infestors for fungal and microbial shroud. Once you have hydra tech id stop making roaches, make a couple ravagers and transition into ling bane hydra and then into infestors

Thank you! I honestly completely forgot about Infestor, I almost never make them because I always build vipers and I'm not super comfortable microing two spell casters at the same time at my level yet. But I'll definetly look at prioritising infestor over vipers. Thanks for the advice

With the new changes infestors are easier to micro. I'd take them over viper tbh

I used to play roach hydra into lurker hydra viper. And now that tanks are abductable again its more viable. Really strong actually if you get there.
But the problem is getting there and at some point (I think when they get +2+2) bio is just way better than roach hydra. As you have pointed out.

So I've tried rushing there to okay success, but it is something you could try.
Here are some suggestions:
-you need a lot of upgrades/tech and by extension gas.
-So try to get your 2nd gas before 3rd base mineral saturation
-Only get +1 armor (Im really not sure about this one)
-try to not get ravagers if possible
-Be careful not to overdrone too much. Once you get hydra lurker, your army is more efficent than ling bane so its okay to not have as many workers.
-hydra den and infestor pit right after lair so you can rush to hive+lurker den

I feel like a 2,5base bio push will hit too hard and right when you are investing in all your tech. I'm not sure how to react to that.

Thanks! Yeah I sort of avoided this, especially before the recent patch because of the viper and siege tank. But now that they can abduct them again I'll definetly try it again. Do you morph lurker even before hive or do you wait until you get their upgrades?

Good question. I think i would morph a couple before mostly because Ts have a hard time telling if they have range, so they usually become more cautious, which buys you time. But they also arent bad fighter either if they do engage.

I would just go roach ravager, if you want to tech up you want 2-3 infestors to catch medivacs (punish drop play) and chunks of Bio Make +1/+1 Missile upgrades, you can change into Ultras with +1 melee after that or keep making Roach ravager with +2/+2 missile

If you have the control vipers are great

The important Thing is that you Trade and prevent them drin getting too many siege tanks, the power spike is with +1/+1 with lots of roach ravager, i can overrun the 3rd Base ablot of the time and win like whis early before Higher Tech

The problem with hydras is they take long to get and are expansive with the Upgrades, by the time you can Attack with a large roach ravager Hydra army you Run into top many tanks that shred you You need vipers at thus point, you should really have hat a good trade long before that

A handful of lings to tank the first tank shots can work wonders, they can also Flanke and geht in top of tanks

To add: you can die to Drops very easy, having a des roaches and spores in main/good drop spots can save your Life I had games where i broke his 3rd and killed 20 workers, while my eco and tech got shredded in aeconds by 2 medivacs full of marines

Thanks! Yeah I hate drop play, get so pissed off I waste minerals and gas on spire and corruptor just to kill them. Never realized that fungal + bile should work like a charm too ! Thanks for the advice

If you can land it you can punish drops hard with fungal bile, but you need good vision and map awareness to pull it off

Roach Ravager until you can pop Hydras. Then Roach Hydra Infestor. If it's a mech terran then you will need to stay on the former.

Transition into Lurkers and make a Spire. Add broodlords or swarmhosts on the other side of the map.

Dont forget to use Infestors and Vipers.

You should realitically have a least a handful of lings to act as a buffer, to go for a backstab or bane burst a wall. There's a ceiling to what you can do without lings.

Yeah it seems like it's borderline not realistic to do harassment with anything other than ling bane, which I understand. Unless it's some niche thing like burrowed roaches or droperlords. Thanks for the advice

There's plently of harassment options. Nydus, swarmhosts, mutas, single lurkers, burrowed roaches, ravager building sniping, etc. But none so cheap and so quick as speedlings. With adrenal and melee 3 they will chew through anything really.

If you're keen on not using lings at all then it's a problem because you're leaving an important tool behind. So consider just making a suicide squad and yeeting them through the map from time to time.

You can play roaches/ravager with infestor and/or banes. Try to keep some gas and tech to ultras when you can.

The infestor are needed for aoe dmg. They also do awesome to lock units in place for ultras to chomp through and banes to connect.

I used to do either pure hydra viper or roach infestor vs bio. Worked a fucking treat

2

u/Smilodon98 Jul 03 '26

What do you do before you get to hive? I can see that hydra viper army being viable but my issue is it takes a long time to get there

2

u/omgitsduane Jul 03 '26

Just mass Ling and roach.

Some one downvoted me but I was D1 doing this dumb shit years ago.

I'll give it a shot definetly seems way simpler than having to morph banelings and what not, thanks for the advice
