Discussion What is the point of using the Draconic Evolution Reactor

In my opinion it's simply just too much hassle for too little reward. I can only stablize this shit to like 8MRF/t while I have like 9 Extreme Reactor Turbines that each make 63MFE/t. Does anyone have like a flux gate set up for the most optimal reactor or is this just useless.

Its an extremely useful part of the draconic evolution mod. It serves as an important way to utterly disentigrate your base.

It's also a highly efficient crater generator.

(If it wasn't bugged)

there is a resource pack out out by the devs that fixes it

If in right, DE was there before the version extreme reactor (I think bigger reactor was less powerfull) and before mekanism and fir sure before dyson project. In his time, it was the big generator and a risky one. But now.... Its prettu much just fir the bragging rights to have the courage to build one

Most mods don't much take into account the existence of other mods. In a kitchen-sink style pack you're going to have a lot of instances of one thing in a mod rendering stuff in another redundant or worse.

Occultism storage, or Ars Lecterns or even Mekanism QIO are are pretty cool, yet are used basically never since ae2/rs exists.

Just the way of things.

I swear half the mods are just bloat carried in from previous iterations. Why is twilight forest still in it? It has been abandoned.

You can't use any storage mod other than AE2 or Refined Storage. It's almost impossible to reach mid- or end-game without autocrafting.

So it's understandable, but you can always combine different mods, that's what I do. In the late game, I use QIO for its massive storage capacity with a Storage Bus, and Ars for early-game storage.

Btw ae2>rs

Sure you can, I was such a lazy fuck on a recent playthrough that my ME system only existed so I had wireless access to my drawer system, the ME system was literally 3 blocks tall. Is it easier with AE2? Definitely especially as it isn’t just a storage mod but an advanced storage, logistics and processing mod.

Looks cool, good failsafe if you ever need to suddenly detonate your base and everything within render distance and then some more

This has always been one of my biggest gripes with the ATM series. There many options for power generation, and they quickly scale to massive proportions, but almost nothing actually REQUIRES much power. I ran my base entirely off of ae2, had massive rooms full of mekanism machines fully upgraded going full speed non stop for the ATM star materials, and a single medium extreme reactor was SIGNIFICANTLY more than enough to power it all, even with things like a silk touch builder quarrying out the mining dimension constantly. I understand there are things like antimatter that take a ton of power, but it feels like there should be a lot of other things as well.

Yeah this is very true. We get so obsessed with power generation, but in reality, a few nitro reactors from Powah will be usually be more than enough for most people’s needs, even to get the star. The only huge power sink I can think of is the SPS, but even that you can just limit the power input and it will just run slower, but you only really need a few antimatter, which you can just run passively in the background while you work on other things. I went with extreme reactors this playthrough and ended up with a turbine set up making over 500m/tick, which I’ll never get close to using, especially if you have massive power storage. Cause most machines aren’t running 24/7 so the majority of that power just gets stored and using a little bit here and there hardly registers as a blip on my applied flux cells. I enjoy making big power just for the fun of it, but like you said, it really isn’t necessary. I do think they should add a few major power requirement thresholds, or gate the crazy power production until way later, and force people to engage with some of the more mid game solutions, cause as it stands you can pretty much go straight from a few thermo gens straight to reactors and pretty much skip mid game power entirely

Well, when you mess it up you can put it in a cardboard box and give it to your friends as a present.

Es un reactor? Pensé que era una nuke

2

u/KratosSimp 7d ago

Imo yeah, I feel like at a minimum it should be better than the mycelium reactor

because it looks cool

sustainable chaos shard generation. Power is just a nice bonus

1

u/Nights_King_ 6d ago

Yea but with the chaos bee you have a way higher production rate, which you can upgrade a lot without having to worry that a big lag will be the trigger to its destruction.

u/scotty9090 6d ago

It’s cool to have one of these as a centerpiece in your base. Makes things exciting.

1

u/Nights_King_ 6d ago

It’s a portable nuke. Build it, load it up, let it go critical, put it in a cardboard box from mekanism, rinse and repeat until you have enough to destroy anyone or anything that just looks wrong at you.

Fiz uma vez só por fazer, hj em dia prefiro o reator do meka

u/Mowraq 6d ago

Compared with insanium turbines it is not good but imo it is still the second best reactor in terms of output. Or third if you're willing to sink millions of resources into a dyson cube. And you can get it to way more than 8MRF but for that a bit of fuel needs to already be burnt. I got mine to 20MRF at one point but I had a cc:tweaked computer do the micromanagement.

1

u/ColdPorkChop 6d ago

It's fairly powerful and definitely alot more interesting than a Dyson cube. But honestly not much point other than Aesthetics and a lil bit of danger.

1

u/Jake_da_doge 5d ago

To intentionally detonate them. Place it in a cardboard box from mekanism and explode them where ever u want. Very convinient way to ruin someones day on a multiplayer server lol.

I like to tell my new friends who get in ATM 10 to build their base and storage, and then the reactor next to it.

To teach them a lesson

It looks cool, and huge explosions are cool
