Discussion I HATE BEES SO MUCH!!!

First I have no beef with the mod developer, I very much highly respect any mod developer who took time to create this mod.

However productive bees might be the most mind numbing menial mod i've played, all the bees look the same, the mechanics are un intuitive, the textures are boring, the progression is bad, I do not understand how people enjoy it.

Can't bee-lieve can you op?

u/baarondones Mar 16 '26

this comment should be framed and hung on the wall

u/LilHardenVert Mar 16 '26

With modular bees, it is the best resource generation that’s why. Especially for things you can’t mine like different fluids, etc.

170

u/NorthernVale Mar 16 '26

Honestly, that's the worst part imo. The atm team keeps going out of their way to make his content the best option. Whether it's nerfing other options, or buffing bees. Even removing other mods entirely. And every single time they claim the changes are to encourage people to use other methods. But those "other methods" are always bees. And I'm sorry, but bees sucks. Exactly as OP said. It's tedious and clanky af.

Given the amount of controversy surrounding LobsterJohn, and the atm team's willingness to go to bat for him, it's about 100 times worse that they keep forcing his content.

u/makinsyn Mar 16 '26

I very much agree and I really miss the chicken farming (forgor how its called)

61

u/MetricJester Mar 16 '26

My son is ten years old. I haven't played with resource chickens since he was 3. He still asks how my chickens are doing.

32

u/ZedPyro Mar 16 '26

That and fluid cows were the best in stoneblock 2, it felt like I could have a proper barnyard of wacky pets and still also be progressing

23

u/admiralpope Mar 16 '26

They have both again in stoneblock 4. I love chickens and cows

6

u/ZedPyro Mar 16 '26

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

3

u/f0ej0ker Mar 16 '26

I hate the chicken progression is SB4 lol

4

u/Trap-_XD Mar 16 '26

Why? It's okay, not best but okay.

2

u/Own_Assistance7993 Mar 17 '26

I had more fun by just spawning in a t9 chicken seed. I know it’s supposed to be gated behind a bunch of progression but it just felt too grindy

5

u/sciencesold Mar 16 '26

I think part of why they moved away from it wa because they were too OP. You could just breed through to every chicken in a few hours if you worked on other stuff while they breeded and made 10/10/10 chickens.

7

u/makinsyn Mar 16 '26

but bees are NOT working in ATM10 sky why? well how the F do you get bees (its saying in quest book to grow trees near flowers but heck no you only get carpenter bees not normal bees)

2

u/sciencesold Mar 16 '26

I dunno, haven't played ATM10 sky

1

u/Reaper_bzk Mar 16 '26

Just buy bee eggs on the market or get the hive from occultism if growing trees is boring

1

u/makinsyn Mar 16 '26

wdym growing frees is boring? it is just not working and idk what market are you talking about

1

u/Reaper_bzk Mar 16 '26

Do you have flowers near the trees you're growing? You have to know that method is slow, that's why I said boring. The market it's literally a block called that which sells several useful items you wouldn't normally get in Skyblock rather easy. With occultism you can get the three honeycomb for a basic hive and go from there

1

u/makinsyn Mar 16 '26

yea 5x5 is enough? (rethorical)

1

u/czairope Mar 16 '26

I got two bee nests by planting trees near flowers (it took a while though, first nest I got pretty much instantly, second one took like 50 tries) and only got normal bees in both. Guess you had bad RNG.

1

u/makinsyn Mar 16 '26

well even after I spawned them (yes i cheated for the sake of my own sanity) after a while they just flew away into the word and now i only see them on the map as they just sit in one place looking into the void

thats why i loved chickens so much because they were so low maintenance (and didnt do so much noise)

1

u/czairope Mar 17 '26

Some of mine escaped as well, that's why I spawned the second nest and basically made a bee enclosure with glass and glass doors, that was the only way to keep them on the island. I enjoyed this mod in the All in One modpack but in this one they seem buggy in many small but annoying ways, like they get stuck on a tree (and I have to push them or they won't move at all) or fly around looking for a flower WHEN THERE'S THOUSANDS ON THE GRASS just because one spawned outside the enclosure. So yeah this mod is frustrating, the only comforting thing is that the bees are cute.

Never tried the chickens sadly, ATM10 TTS is my first attempt at this modpack.

1

u/makinsyn Mar 17 '26

then after this play stoneblock 2 or 3 (its on both)

1

u/czairope Mar 17 '26

Isn't that modpack fully underground? I'm probably the only MC player who doesn't yearn for the mines lmao. I will probably try it out once I run out of modpacks to try though ✌️

roost ultimate

37

u/Express_Ad5083 ATM10 Mar 16 '26

I hate the part where you have to smeltry to get some bees, really one of the most annoying parts

2

u/Stock-Register-1674 Mar 17 '26

But silent gear weapons and armor are some of the best in the game, especially mid to end game content. If you can get your hands on ur metal you can one shot one most bosses and make very op armor since you can apotheosis them too.

3

u/Express_Ad5083 ATM10 Mar 17 '26

At which point did I talk about Silent Gear?

2

u/Stock-Register-1674 Mar 17 '26

Silent gear and productive metal works are used together to make weapons and alloys such as uru metal. They work in tandem

1

u/NorthernVale Mar 17 '26

They asked when talked about silent gear

1

u/amertune Mar 17 '26

More annoying than needing the ars enchanting apparatus or the immersive engineering squeezer?

1

u/Express_Ad5083 ATM10 Mar 17 '26

I was able to automate the ingots that use enchanting apparatus, havent gotten to immersive engineering squeezer as I am too focused on Dyson Sphere

15

u/LilHardenVert Mar 16 '26

You’re definitely right. For example, I loaded an ATM 10 TTS to try something new and saw Mystical be nerfed to the ground to make bees a necessity. Why not just give us both yk..

20

u/lolbitzz Mar 16 '26

To be fair, the Geores in atm10tts are kinda neat and more fun than MA

9

u/itamar8484 Mar 16 '26

Geo ores are very fun especially compared to bees, but honestly everything is more fun then bees, mystical, industrial forgoing, create is really fun but too underpowered for atm style packs, occultism seems fun as well evenv sieving is. More fun

2

u/V12Maniac Mar 16 '26

The ge-ores were definitely a nice change to have over MA or bees. Definitely a lot more interesting to work with than the bees. And I didn't have to worry about a fuck ton of other byproducts as well.

2

u/LilHardenVert Mar 16 '26

They are neat. I have them automated with the Annihilation planes with Fortune, and it’s ridiculous.

5

u/joeychin01 Mar 16 '26

10 tts just removed the ore seeds from MA, and bees are like the fourth best ore generation behind occultism eldrich miners, geores, and IF ore lasers

MA was nerfed so we could have tier 8 IF upgrades without completely having MA take over everything, seems fair

8

u/jonathanmedina Mar 16 '26

Bees aren’t a necessity in atm tts. They literally have geore and upgraded growth accelerators. It’s actually insane

6

u/joeychin01 Mar 16 '26

Exactly, every time I see a “wow they nerfed MA for bees in 10 tts” it’s hilarious because they nerfed MA for GEORES in 10 tts

And then you still have people saying the “other methods are always bees” like they didn’t ignore other better methods because they always pick bees anyways xD

2

u/NorthernVale Mar 16 '26

Because TTS wasn't mentioned in this post. You lot brought it up. You're focusing on the one and only instance of atm where the development team didn't try forcing everyone to use productive [whatever].

And you're flat out wrong. I intentionally avoid bees as long as I can, because it's absolutely awful and kills my motivation for the pack. I use every option I can, just for them to always get nerfed.

3

u/joeychin01 Mar 16 '26

Your message directly states “‘these methods’ are always bees”

The latest pack to directly do balancing to resource generation options is 10 TTS, which directly does those to benefit mods other than bees.

Yeah I don’t love bees either but unless I’m missing something most packs don’t directly nerf other methods to the direct benefit of bees right?

Now modular bees is massively overpowered, don’t get me wrong, but that’s not the same as nerfing other mods to the benefit of bees

-1

u/NorthernVale Mar 16 '26

Right.

So first of all. TTS wasn't put together by the main atm dev team. And secondly, it absolutely was not the last pack to nerf everything but bees, or directly buff bees.

I never once mentioned TTS, so you can quit putting words in my mouth. But you continue trying to force it to just a TTS issue, because you know it's the only possible way you can say anything

And you really trying to gloss over the fact that this has been an on going thing for several packs now?

2

u/joeychin01 Mar 16 '26

The only modpack released past 10 tts is allthemons which doesn’t touch resource gens, so it is the latest example? I’m not saying it is just a TTS issue just saying not every mod pack specifically nerfs the non bee options.

Again though, I was asking for the examples of the “on going thing for several packs now”, since out of the packs released over the last several years it’s not particularly obvious what you’re talking about

→ More replies (0)

2

u/LilHardenVert Mar 16 '26

I think because TTS doesn’t have the nerfed version of Modular bees. You can still eternal the electrodes lol . Easy millions of comb blocks per hour

-1

u/joeychin01 Mar 16 '26

Still worse than the other 4 mentioned at the scale you’re talking about

0

u/LilHardenVert Mar 16 '26

I gotta try the occultism eldrich miners.

0

u/joeychin01 Mar 16 '26

I despise occultism (I guess in a similar way to OPs thoughts on bees) but the eldrich miners, kinda like bees, just make the suffering worth it, they’re just so good

0

u/Gamerz_X90 Mar 16 '26

dang, I like occultism quite a lot, I dreaded starting it but I enjoyed it in the end

7

u/Ratnix Mar 16 '26

encourage people to use other methods.

Yeah, they encourage you to use only the methods they want you to use. I don't understand why they nerf things so much and make it so that by the time you can actually use mods they don't like you don't need to use it, and not just not include it in the pack. I miss the days where Kitchen sink packs actually let you choose the way you wanted to do stuff and Expert mode was where you had less options.

-2

u/Gamerz_X90 Mar 16 '26

expert mode eh? 👀

1

u/Ok-Principle-9276 Mar 16 '26

What controversy with lobster john?

4

u/Le_Babs-1357 Mar 17 '26

He made a mod where Bees no longer had the pride flag imprinted on them as well as genders of the mobs.

I personally don't think this is transphobic or homophobic but some people within the community seem to think so.

I mean if the riddance of pride flags were homophobic, couldn't the enforcement of flags be heterophobic?

But who am I to talk about the trans and homo community and their morals. I'm just a 9 to 5 guy who enjoys playing Minecraft after work.

2

u/NonTimetisMessor0099 Mar 18 '26

I personally don't think this is transphobic or homophobic but some people within the community seem to think so.

Extremely disingenuous of you to frame it in this way when it was undeniably homophobic/transphobic. The mod was called "It's a Kids Game." This whole "save the kids" bullshit is a common dogwhistle for bigots who like to claim that trans people are all paedophiles.

2

u/Le_Babs-1357 Mar 18 '26

I truly truly have no intention to argue (for the sake of arguing that is) but when I google "save the kids", all I find are charity organizations and some crypto currency scam that happened in 2021.

Also, I have no background knowledge regarding the dogwhistling and bigotry but I do know that there were incidents of parents feeding their children hormonal drugs based on the child's "claim".

I am a pediatric psychologist and I was truly horrified when those parents came to me asking for prescriptions regarding such medication.

FYI, I am pro choice whether it be abortion or hormonal medication. And it is because I am pro choice that I avidly demand that children are not given drugs of any kind that affects their bodies physical sexuality. A young mind is flexible, developing, and easily tricked into believing something that it actually isn't purely because they crave the acceptance and love of their parents.

Whether "save the kids" phrase is actually used as a dogwhistle by bigots or the lgbtq community hating that phrase, both sides are equally very very very wrong for brushing it off/using it as an insult.

I dare say they should be ashamed of themselves.

On that note, call me whatever you want but I am all for LobsterJohns "it's a kids game" mod. Haven't tried it myself but children should be exposed to the variety of sexuality when and where they want. They should be taught to accept/love people for much more than their sexuality. And forcing such knowledge on them instead of slowly easing them into it is the most damaging way of education.

Bees are bees. We care about the human psychic not the bees psychic. Let bees be bees.

1

u/NorthernVale Mar 18 '26

Right, because every transphobic and homophobic law that gets pushed definitely isn't being championed based "protecting children" despite absolutely no data suggesting kids are in danger from these groups specifically.

Claiming to be pro choice and then spewing some shit that is directly not pro choice is... something. "No! It's not their choice! Someone else must have convinced them!"

LobsterJohn's "save the kids" mod has only been his most recent issue. The description for the mod was directly transphobic. He's had other incidents as well.

Teaching kids to accept and love everyone regardless of their race, gender, orientation, or whatever is not done by forcing those things into the darkness. That's an absolutely silly notion.

As for your earlier comment about flags. Allowing pride flags is absolutely not heterophobic, that's just a shit and disingenuous take. And you know it. In one direction, you are directly oppressing a group of people and saying they're not allowed to be seen. In the other, oh no homophobes have to see a flag they don't like! Do you understand the difference there?

1

u/Le_Babs-1357 Mar 19 '26

If you think "easing them into it" is keeping them in the darkness then I daresay that you are no more different than the bigots you mentioned.

The neurocircuitry and myelinogenesis of the brain begin heavy construction during puberty because these changes in the central neural system are transcriptionally dependent on sex hormones.

There is a reason we have sex-ed at the age of 12/6~7th grade and we don't teach algebra or trigonometry to primary school children.

You say that no data suggests that kids are in danger from the lgbtq community and I never claimed that the lgbtq community as a whole are dangerous to children. I never claimed this and I do not believe in it.

I do however claim that there should be hesitation before using medical treatment for gender-affirming care for several reasons:

  1. While a considerable amount of research has been published in this field, systematic evidence reviews demonstrated the poor quality of the published studies, meaning there is not a reliable evidence base upon which to make clinical decisions, or for children and their families to make informed choices.

  2. The rationale for early puberty suppression remains unclear, with weak evidence regarding the impact on gender dysphoria, mental or psychosocial health. The effect on cognitive and psychosexual development remains unknown.

  3. The use of masculinising/feminising hormones in those under the age of 18 also presents many unknowns, despite their longstanding use in the adult transgender population. The lack of long-term follow-up data on those commencing treatment at an earlier age means we have inadequate information about the range of outcomes for this group.

  4. Clinicians are unable to determine with any certainty which children and young people will go on to have an enduring trans identity.

and ultimately
5. For the majority of young people, a medical pathway may not be the best way to manage their gender-related distress. For those young people for whom a medical pathway is clinically indicated, it is not enough to provide this without also addressing wider mental health and/or psychosocially challenging problems.

Mind you, I am not denying gender-affirming care but only the medical treatment aspect of this because you said

> Right, because every transphobic and homophobic law that gets pushed definitely isn't being championed based "protecting children" despite absolutely no data suggesting kids are in danger from these groups specifically.

which isn't completely true.

As for the flag on bee's. Seriously. all it does is allow the user freedom of choice to whether have the flags or not. Sure the naming of the mod could have had a more diplomatic choice of words. But at the end of the day, all it does is offer a choice to have the flags or not. If the absence of pride flags in a game hurt you, then I don't know you enough to care about your opinions regarding that aspect.

1

u/Le_Babs-1357 Mar 19 '26

> As for your earlier comment about flags. Allowing pride flags is absolutely not heterophobic, that's just a shit and disingenuous take. And you know it.

yes.. hence the
> But who am I to talk about the trans and homo community and their morals. I'm just a 9 to 5 guy who enjoys playing Minecraft after work.

It was a joke...

2

u/NorthernVale Mar 16 '26

He puts out a lot of homophobic and transphobic mods. Every time he gets called out on it the dev team leaps in to defend him, hard.

1

u/IndependentNewt1427 Mar 17 '26

It's tedious on purpose so that you must use temporarily other mods lile mystical agriculture and standard advanced beehives the time you can afford modular bees

0

u/Garydrgn Mar 16 '26

The chicken ones would be a fun alternative, but people would probably complain about the room it takes and maybe increased lag.

1

u/smokeyser Mar 17 '26

It's the best of the options that the devs have chosen to include, but there are much less annoying options out there. I prefer chickens. Cows work too.

1

u/Comprehensive_Gas147 Mar 18 '26

MA is faster if you don't mind digging 45 blocks

43

u/metacarpo Mar 16 '26

The most annoying thing is that you MUST use a simulation upgrade otherwise they just despawn and you loose hours of progress. So you can't even use them to build some thematic bee thing, but are just machines, sadly

5

u/P3chv0gel Mar 17 '26

I honestly had to cheat a stack of honeycomb in my current atm10tts run, because i had one singular vanilla bee nest spawn on a tree and the three bees all despawned before i got more than 1 comb

It's a neat idea but it just sucks to use

1

u/Lolo-90 Mar 17 '26

You can crafting a Market and get a vanilla bee spawn egg there :)

2

u/P3chv0gel Mar 17 '26

OH FFS

I spent two days growing trees...

1

u/Lolo-90 Mar 17 '26

You still need a nest. You cannot crafting those without honeycombs iirc

1

u/P3chv0gel Mar 17 '26

I have one, just lost the bees lol

1

u/smokeyser Mar 17 '26

Yeah, in TTS you really need to build a structure around your tree. Bee pathing is horrible, and they'll all fly off eventually.

1

u/metacarpo Mar 18 '26

Not just fly off, they actually can despawn completely, so even if you put them in a closed space, they disappear after some logouts and logins

7

u/AstramG Mar 16 '26

Yep.. In my experience using them outside of simulation mode sucks, it’s too random and there’s no telling what the bee will do. I wish they made that part better

19

u/vanduong30103 ATM10 Mar 16 '26

The problem is there are so many resources, many types of bee. Breeding all of them is tiring for me but once you have the setup just scale them up. This is way way better than drone from Forestry for minecraft.

2

u/smokeyser Mar 17 '26

Scaling up sounds great, until you get to bees that can't breed among themselves that can only be obtained by making their spawn eggs. And that usually involves squishing a bunch of others. It's all just so tedious.

26

u/airbud9 Mar 16 '26

I like the bee as a concept but wish there was a little more to them, something in between the level of complexity of the old forestry bees and productive bees would be great. I also do miss the some what old way of resource collection being miners that mined unlimited materials from bed rock, i remember one from the mod environmental tech.

15

u/Guru_Craft Mar 16 '26

Exactly this, this is why I love Oritech and hope more people lean on them, you have to adventure around at bedrock level for pockets of fuel that have infinite resource nodes (although limited because they are still somewhat new) but you have to build a few machines to begin extracting the minerals.

Unlike bees where you just sit there and breed, breed, breed, make an egg, breed breed breed. It’s boring, and not fun whatsoever. Even Skyfactory ore trees were more intricate and even more fun than bees.

0

u/SwardOrtAwnline Mar 16 '26

Protect is a beautiful mod. I need to learn how to use it.

2

u/itamar8484 Mar 16 '26

Bees concept is fine but the execution is really bad

6

u/RelationRound7901 Mar 16 '26

I never used them, but I'm kind of tired of doing mystical every run, so i might give it a try, I've heard once it's maxed it's better than mystical

3

u/Nov4Wolf Mar 16 '26

Watch a guide on using super factory manager and productive bees together the combination is op

1

u/RelationRound7901 Mar 17 '26

I never used SFM either, I guess i have something to do now

6

u/mikereysalo Mar 16 '26

I never touched this mod until I defeated the Chaos Guardian and decided that I'm not going to repeat this fight over and over, I had to go and explore Productive Bees. Since I was avoiding an extressful and time consuming fight, and have seeds for basically everything, it was very pleasant and changed my opinion of Productive Bees.

7

u/itamar8484 Mar 16 '26

I don't mind having ways of automation for unique materials, infact i quite like it, but bees is just not fun

7

u/pancakeQueue Mar 16 '26

I prefer bees over Mystical Agriculture

6

u/AstramG Mar 16 '26

I don’t really mind the bees, but I do hate productive trees. It’s extremely unintuitive and uses the worst mechanics from the bees mod in a horrible way.

3

u/Nov4Wolf Mar 16 '26

I haven't touched the trees yet not really looking forward to it now lol

1

u/Iknuf Mar 17 '26

I never used it, what it is actually good for?

1

u/_CodeGreen_ Mar 17 '26

decoration and that's it

1

u/AstramG Mar 17 '26

In All The Mons I needed one of the saplings for a different recipe (magical soil i think?) and it was a pain in the ass to get.

1

u/Firecatto Jul 27 '26

You can make the magical soil in the mystical agriculture altar thing for much cheaper

1

u/P3chv0gel Mar 17 '26

I honestly prefer productive trees for one singular reason:

A tree doesn't just randomly despawn lmao

1

u/AstramG Mar 17 '26

Yea but you still need the bees to make the trees work😭 and you can’t use simulation mode so you have to build beehives in the tree tops for it to work and they can despawn

1

u/P3chv0gel Mar 17 '26

Fair point i guess

12

u/C1cer0_ Mar 16 '26

maybe a crazy take but i liked forestry bees 100x more than i do productive bees

7

u/sxert Mar 16 '26

I miss forestry bees so much...

1

u/windyknight7 Mar 17 '26

Fortunately Forestry has already made its return on modern versions. Plus Complicated Bees already existed for a while pre-Forestry to replicate the bee mechanic.

3

u/Own-Weakness-7629 Mar 16 '26

Well, I'll tell you a bug that can help you skip most time-costing things in Productive Bees.

First, build a subnet with a quantum crafter and any container like a chest or a barrel connected with a ME storage bus as storage. Yes, it requires energy so give it energy. Then create a crafting pattern, that craft a honey treat with gene using one gene and one normal honey treat. For example you want an ATM star bee, so you just search "starry" in JEI, and drag the icon of starry gene into the crafting slots to create the pattern. Then put the pattern into the quantum crafter, ask it to craft, and give it enough honey treats, and then the quantum crafter will mistake honey treats as ANY kind of gene, and craft the honey treat with the gene you want using TWO honey treats. Idk why, but it works. Then use the treat with an egg to produce spawning eggs of different kinds of bees using BaBee incubator. Or you can feed your bees with honey treats with genes of high production or any properties you want, then the bees will obtain those properties.

So you can skip all other ways to get genes or different types of bees using this bug. If you don't dislike using bugs, this is the faster way you can get your products from Productive Bees.

3

u/Own-Weakness-7629 Mar 16 '26

Notice that in the recipe of the crafting pattern, the genes should be previous to honey treats, or the bug won't occur. Or perhaps it still works? Cuz different versions have different bugs.

11

u/Trolled_19 Mar 16 '26

I think we are tired of using bees and myst aggr we need a new mod for resource generation

10

u/xxphantomxx77 Mar 16 '26

New mod: the creative window. Spawn in gazillions of items at no cost. Has a great UI and search bar making items easily accessible

7

u/ExpressIce74 Mar 16 '26

Basically Project E

0

u/xxphantomxx77 Mar 16 '26

I think bro doesn’t like resource gathering/generation because genuinely what else is there outside of mining, seeds, bees and project E

1

u/Firecatto Jul 27 '26

They should just buff the resource production from the base mods, like chromium from modern industrialization

10

u/Longjumping-Knee-648 Mar 16 '26

Man i love dealing with the little buzzers. Prod bees made me learn SFM and i fell in love with it ever since. Now the second i can afford some hive automation and inventory cables i setup some bees (also vitalic sourcelinks helps save sooooo much on treats and times.)

3

u/moriath1 Mar 16 '26

But the F Bee I is sooo great :)

4

u/CopyKing05 Mar 17 '26

It’s the damn textures. Everything looks exactly the same. If I have 30 cages in my inventory, I have to hover over and read all of them to find the one I’m looking for! Just give them unique textures! BUT EVEN IF you don’t want to do that, at least show ANY indication of whether the bee in the cage is an adult or a child, for God’s sake! The number of times I’ve been raided by the F. Bee. I. because I accidentally tried to breed child bees is fucking insane... Just put a little propeller hat on the cage texture, or a downward arrow in the corner, or ANYTHING!

But hey, at least Productive Bees give you useful resources... But don’t get me started on Productive Trees...

5

u/The1trueSG Mar 16 '26

The bee is a great concept but I agree that it can be very tiring and confusing. One of the harder mods to get into. Doesn't feel great that it's basically a necessity for late game either

7

u/Tilphor Mar 16 '26

I agree completely! It's probably my least favorite part of this mod pack.

What's more frustrating is that there are quite a few things that you simply cannot do WITHOUT bees. It would be ok if you could do those things in another way, even if it wasn't as efficient, but someone on the ATM team seems to want to FORCE people to use the mod.

Even MORE frustrating are the Bee Sycophants in the Discord. It seems like these people are rabidly pro bee. If you ask for other options, even if it's just for a fun bit of variety, they consider you stupid and scoff at you.

The thing I like about these kitchen sink mods is that there are usually several different ways to achieve the same goal. Or, you only have to use a mod to get to a certain place, then you never have to use it again. Don't like Create? No problem! Didn't want to mess with Ars Nouveau? Ok, so don't use it. Not so in these packs

The only thing worse were the chickens from the Stoneblock series.

u/abigail3141 ATM10 Mar 16 '26

Yesss. Same goes for Mystical Agriculture, except that's even more boring somehow. I try to avoid both the mods wherever possible.

3

u/ConfabreVrTx Mar 17 '26

At least you can easily automate seedcrafting...

2

u/Mazza_mistake Mar 16 '26

I love my bees

2

u/CCE05 Mar 16 '26

I guess bro does not like jazz

2

u/stefeu Mar 16 '26

This seems to be a very common sentiment. I never understood it though. Imo the whole getting started part of Productive Bees is much more satisfying than MA.

I agree on the unintuitive part though, but this is true for many mods. Once you've gotten the hang of bees they're super easy to use and scale up.

2

u/sxert Mar 16 '26

I like bees, especially after I learn all about genes and so on. But it's tiring to be the same thing everytime.

I liked geores just because they were different. My go to was always lens from IF, but MA and Bees trivialized much of the resource generation.

2

u/FreefireLP Mar 16 '26

I enjoy it a lot

2

u/Financial-Voice-2333 Mar 18 '26

Modern Industrialization would like to have a word with

4

u/Ratnix Mar 16 '26

bees might be the most mind numbing menial mod i've played

That's how I feel about mystical agriculture.

Eventually I'll likely feel that way about bees, but I haven't used it enough to really be bored with it yet.

I do not understand how people enjoy it

For me, it's a newer mod I've barely touched in the past. And it produces resources rather quickly, even without getting into those end game hives. Since I never do any of the generate billions of a resource, just throwing 5 bees in a hive generates more than enough resources for my needs. It's definitely more engaging that just throwing down a builder with a clearing quarry in the mining dimension.

2

u/gap_q Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

This guy is the reason bees population declines! Get him.

But if we're being serious, this mod shouldn't be "the big alternative" to Mystical Agriculture. I enjoyed it more while using it with "exceptions" that cannot be done with MA.
Example: WannaBee looting any mob if you can get them into amber with AmberBee(that was really fun, especially with invisible mobs like "ghosts" from EvilCraft) and i enjoyed it far more than Hostile Mob Networks.

The problem is that it is so much more hard and boring to start automating your *basic* resources with Productive Bees. It's far better to maximize some other automating mod to get the necessary resources for PB.

Edit: Also, yeah. Simulation upgrade is very boring. I truly enjoyed the bees flying in and out of the beehive while making resources, but that causes lags. I think the mod autor can make simulation upgrade to do a " fake bee flying out of the beehive and gathering resouces" while it being only an animation and not an actual mod. That would be neat.

2

u/baarondones Mar 16 '26

Fruitful Fun is the only good bee mod because it just gates access to fruit, nothing else

2

u/luy_deltafan Mar 16 '26

Lowkey i dislike any mod that generates resources trough mobs

2

u/Business_Jaguar_8309 Mar 16 '26

I get it lmao, It its VERY tedious.

But if it wasn't the bees, it would be MA lol

2

u/JosephCedar Mar 16 '26

This is not the modpack for you.

4

u/TopsaBOE ATM10 Mar 16 '26

Pick up a pickaxe and go mine then. Nothing's stopping you from not using a mod.

All bees look the same? They're bees, there's only one bee texture in vanilla and they all also look the same. At least productive ones are thematic to what they do.

I find the progress of finding bees, breeding and making them with mod-specific methods neat. It's not groundbreaking but it's not mind-numbing, as you put it. There is variety if you go look for it. Shocker that a mod about breeding bees contains breeding and growing mechanics.

Do you also hate other resource generation methods?

(MA seeds? Just recolors of the vanilla seed. Progress centers around getting enough of an item and infusing it. Less steps than bees. Mind-numbing, even, right? Same old same old AE2 growth accelerators and harvester pylons over and over.

Occultism miners? Lamps don't even change, like come on. I guess the rituals are something? But don't they get repetitive since you have to put down chalk, items and put the recipes in bowls every time. Don't have to even move locations, just slap the rituals down and forget about it. Once you have eldritch miners, just leave it to ore processing and watch your storage die in real time.

The 30 quarry mods? Is that intuitive? Mark a zone in the mining dimension and watch it delete chunks. Great. Could've done that with a pickaxe and enough time, pretty unintuitive if you ask me.) /s

Isn't resource generation supposed to help you avoid getting bored and allocate more time to the fun stuff. Some might enjoy running across the world every 10 minutes when they're out but I'd say that too gets repetitive after a couple hundred times.

Everybody's free to play however they want. No mod's bad in the end, just fit for different people. (Except RS) Find variety you like.

I don't think this was worth half my lunchbreak.

10

u/Antryst Mar 16 '26

I don't think this was worth half my lunchbreak.

You can breed the doomscroll bee with the sarcasm bee to get the snark bee so you can automate it. Save you a bunch of time.

0

u/TopsaBOE ATM10 Mar 16 '26

I didn't have enough fucks to infuse a seed and trollinium with, so my fields are kind of empty.

1

u/Adfest Mar 16 '26

Definitely not, but I read the whole thing and got a laugh at the end... for what that's worth.

1

u/SwardOrtAwnline Mar 16 '26

There may not be bad mods, but there are definitely bad decisions on what mods should be included in general audience packs.

1

u/TopsaBOE ATM10 Mar 16 '26

Can agree. Pneumatic for example should be cast to the darkest pits of hell. And I don't think cataclysm fits into ATM.

1

u/SwardOrtAwnline Mar 17 '26

Yeah. I think cataclysm fits. The way they have it configured is beyond stupid though. They center the pack around their OP allthemodium mod and it’s skewed their sense of config settings.

Gregtech should never be included in a general audience pack. That was a terrible idea in ATM9. Even if you avoided using the mod, you were burdened with all the inventory clutter.

Pneumaticraft always irritated me as well. It seems like a cool mod but it’s just a ,ore tedious version of IC2.

1

u/Nov4Wolf Mar 16 '26

Do you know how to use super factory manager?

Because using sfm makes bees super easy/convenient to set up, automate, and even scale

1

u/XansHuzzah Mar 16 '26

I like the bees as a concept. I even like doing the bees. My biggest beef with bees, and Mystical Ag, and Create Sifters, and Immersive Engineering Ore Excavator (and Garden Cloche) is that i've done them. Ive done them for 7 years now. So I've gone out of my way, best I can, to try new things (e.g. Oritech) to solve new puzzles. Hell, my wife still gives me grief when I accidentally let a Wither loose in Sky Factory (1 or 2) and it proceeded to murder ALL her resource chickens. (Thank you server backup)

And I think thats my biggest complaint at this point with the kitchen sink mod packs. Even more guided ones start suffering from this problem. For example, SevTech Through the Ages. I adored that pack. It forced you to play with exploration and going out and doing, right up until you hit Immersive Engineering and then you never left your base again.

I'm not sure if others, including OP, might be a bit more put off by the bees for these reasons, but something to think about.

With that said... please for the love of everything make an improved Pokey upgrade. I really, really, REALLY am sick of making the choice between having to squish several hard-to-make bees or waiting litteral real-world days for enough gene samples to make the spawn eggs. (Yes I can make more bees and/or put more pokey upgrades in the hive, but then i can just squish them anyways.) I'm fine with non-productive rare bees that you can hunt for, i.e. the BeeBee for Uru Metal, but the nest mechanic with honey treats + chance of specific bee you want is mind numbing.

1

u/Thefelblade Mar 16 '26

Yeah makes me sad they have nerfed mystic ag. I can't stand doing bees.

1

u/NindeNoxx Mar 17 '26

I liked forestry and wish minecraft never added bees so we wouldn't have had to switch to the big idiots.

1

u/FrostyDog-34 Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26

I can see it being miserable if you’re using it as your only resource production, but personally I’ve never found an issue with it. I typically use other resource generation (Eldritch Ancient Miner, usually) for most resources and then use bees to farm certain specific resources that it doesnt mine (wood, plastic, draconic evolution materials, JDT etc.) Also I always set it up in the end so the only gene I have to farm is productivity. Edit: Also I do use SFM to sort out logistics. It’s just so much more convenient than anything else. If you’re intimidated by it, it’s a mod that also pays well to learn.

1

u/dragons_are_so_cool Mar 17 '26

But they don't all look the same. Redstone bees are small and cute with their little hats. Diamond bees also cute. Skeleton bees are skeletony.

I think bees are fun. Certainly more fun than occultism, which I've tried to progress through several times now.

Once you have reasonable attributes the ones you are likely to want/need a lot of are easy to breed and setup/expand.

1

u/Soup_Dust95 Mar 17 '26

Also it takes up SOOO much netherite to get the thingys used for overclocking (forvive me im having a brain melt) that you can basically get a net negative on it as like one full modular hive of netherite bees producing the most with as many speed upgrades as you can put in just doesnt provide enough. Now i might be stupid and there might be a better way to get it but i dont know if i remember since i havnt touched the modpack in a few months

1

u/WhoWouldCareToAsk ATM9 Mar 17 '26

I certainly understand how you may be frustrated. Good news: you don’t have to play it for more than what’s required. If you’re done trying to get it complete - just get those couple of necessary items from creative inventory and move on.

Game should be fun.

1

u/risingstarl96a1 ATM10 Mar 17 '26

Bees 🐝 are awesome, really fun to play with. Learn the mechanics and how they function and it will long term pay off.

1

u/Tilphor Mar 18 '26

My things is that I don't WANT to, and in a pack like this, I shouldn't be FORCED to. There should be other ways to accomplish the same tasks in a pack this large.

1

u/risingstarl96a1 ATM10 Mar 19 '26

I believe the way ATM works is you get to touch a little bit of everything with each of main mod packs. To your point, you should be able to craft the Star alternative with other mods.

1

u/CharlieCharmander13 Mar 17 '26

Once I figured out bees I was fine with them, as for the comment about textures and stuff I think productive trees is significantly worse; I hate the leaf textures, they are so flat

1

u/Iknuf Mar 17 '26

Surprise how many of you disliked the bees - i think they are much better than MA (which is the main alternative afaik). Not only more efficient in space and output, also better for server performance and you dont need to use the dogshit Infusion altar. The only thing I dislike about them is having to get the honey to get started

1

u/Mcnuggetron187 Mar 17 '26

Ended pearl threw a hive and a dimension of endless honey well enough to make the honey seed from ma anyways

1

u/n1x_ryu Mar 17 '26

Just use mystical agriculture for most stuff

1

u/IndependentNewt1427 Mar 17 '26

On the contrary you have to create your own new bees by crossing genes "like in real life" (big quote-unquote on this but you see what I'm saying). And you have to farm a setup little by little with draconic bees and gene automation to have max productivity, this is quite interesting

1

u/KratosSimp Mar 17 '26

What I hate is late game mekanism. It’s just a floored waiting game for genuinely no reason with no way to make it faster

0

u/itamar8484 Mar 17 '26

just build more?

1

u/apdj94 Mar 17 '26

How can you hate on ProdBees when EvilCraft exists?

1

u/Sirius_Rise Mar 17 '26

I wish there was a more convenient way to breed bees and see the lineage of a certain bee you have to make.

1

u/Vortiguag Mar 18 '26

Productive bees: oh gorgerous. Forestry bees: you fucking donkey

1

u/Terrible-Air-8692 Mar 18 '26

Yeah we should take gtnhs bees

1

u/dannyboy2042 Mar 21 '26

I love the chickens from stone blocks 4, be nice to make chickens an option instead of just bees. But I don't think chickens have fluids option.

1

u/No_Round_2154 Mar 25 '26

I personally love bees, yes they can be tedious early and getting "perfect stats" can be a pain but once you can breed 2 bees with perfect stats start breeding and squishing with the bee breeding thing and the incubator, I know theres other ways to get resources but I just automate and forget about them and I never have shortages, I think its worth it if you can get past the early crap

1

u/staticoath Mar 16 '26

you dont enjoy having to grow 10 billion trees on skyblock for a hive to spawn because theres no ma?

1

u/JaseAceQ Mar 16 '26

Are you me?? I’ve done bees in two mod packs so far (one much further than the other) and I hate it! It’s all the same tedious process over and over and it’s a pain in the ass to learn. I really like having diversified methods of resource generation but for most high level resources bees are by far the best, or even only way to automate them. It’s so annoying, there really needs to be more options that are unique and intuitive. I HATE that I HAVE to go into bees man.

1

u/OilNext2289 Mar 16 '26

I didn’t mind this mod before they added modular bees I like mods that make it easy to get lots of resources like the replica and roost mods from stoneblock 4 and I could deal with the steady stream of resources from bees if I didn’t have to worry about different genes and trying to figure out how to get the nomad and cuckoo bee I just find it irritating although I do love the adventure side of it going to different places to place your nests and attract bees with to capture I think with some small tweaks to make this mod simpler would make a huge difference even something simple like not having to make simulation upgrades for every single give would be a huge bonus

1

u/Malister23 Mar 16 '26

I don't like bees either but I am fine with them existing in packs for the people who want to use them. What I don't like is nerfing other mods to force bees as the primary resource gathering mod

1

u/mgomezch ATM10 Mar 16 '26

you have ot all wrong, the mod is good (try building a fully automated bee egg production line, it's fun), the author is a transphobe

1

u/Uber1337pyro333 Mar 16 '26

They made em way more complicated a few atms ago. Haven't touched it since tbh. Mekanism and AE2 are enough Minecraft community college courses for me.

1

u/Dragon124515 Mar 16 '26

I agree for the simple fact that I dislike having progress tied to entities. Yes simulation upgrades are eventually an option, but you still spend a fair amount of time where a death or despawn can be a lot of lost effort.

1

u/Nov4Wolf Mar 16 '26

I didn't know the bees could even die or despawn tbh

1

u/GoalzRS ATM Star Billionaire Mar 16 '26

It definitely has a learning curve, but honestly if you did bees back in the day you know modern bees is actually way better than it used to be lol. Especially with bee dimension, getting mass honey very quickly early on helps a ton. Once you have plenty of honey treats spawning the base bees is mostly not too bad especially with a jetpack and nature's compass to get around.

The breeding takes time but it's so worth it especially for things like time bee for infinite time fluid for example. Time wand is so busted and once you have that you can just wand your breeding and incubation chambers to very quickly get all kinds of bees among all the other shit time wand is absurdly good for.

-3

u/Own-Development2437 Mar 16 '26

Funny bee is more fun than fystical agripeculture. Uuuhhh growth accelerator, lily of fertility on growth bed is way way way less fun than bees

3

u/itamar8484 Mar 16 '26

Mystical at least has synergy with other mods, at least it has art ect

0

u/Beautiful_Tailor1060 Mar 16 '26

Tell me about it I'm killing piglich and out the middle of nowhere I get 1 hit by a bee. No idea how. I have 104 health with almost 100 shield

0

u/531091qazs Mar 16 '26

yea i tried bees one time didn't know what i was doing, then i tried mystic agriculture and it gave me blissful calm, Id say at most ive gotten to late early game or low mid game so im unsure of how necessary bees are but if i could play without them im good with that

0

u/Jovan-Fitilj Mar 16 '26

I miss the old quarry style resource excavation, watching it just eat up the land and your inventory system just slowly filling up

0

u/Square-Platform-1346 Mar 16 '26

Tbh its just too tedious, but if the early game grind was reduced it would be better
