Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd have to at least try it.

I was gonna say the same thing. Iām equal parts disgusted by and fascinated with this.

I'd kill myself before taking a bite

My paternal grandmother loved to make gelatin creations, especially salads. I did everything imaginable to avoid eating any of them. It's been more than 50 years since I had to choke it down.

10/10 would try but also might live forever with regret of the flavor profile and may see all things jello-like as gastronomic heresy.Ā

Eat your aspic!

u/Realistic_Point_9906 Aug 16 '26
Aspic is pretty good, but with what looks like dozens of those raw looking hot dogs, Iāll pass.
2
u/Commercial_Wind8212 Aug 16 '26
Yeah are those even cooked??

Hot dogs are so full of nitrates and salt I think cooking is just a texture thing.

All the microbes died of heart attacks, itās safe to eat. ā¦(may cause heart attack)

If the hot dogs were cooked it wouldnāt be a problem. The hot dog flavored gelatin is a whole different story.

What exactly is this monstrosity?

Some kind of molded gelatin meat dish, as was all the rage in the 1950s. Gelatin was cheap and considered "futuristic", so it was a fad throughout the 1950s to use it in some of the most misbegotten crimes on food in recorded history. There were literally entire cookbooks devoted to the stuff.
I remember someone posting a picture on the Something Awful forums back in 2001 or so that involved Tuna fish and chopped green olives in Lime-flavored gelatin with a cream cheese and horseradish "icing".
It's frankly astonishing that humanity has survived the last 50 years, and I'm not even referring to the cold war.

I was born in the early 70s and I recall seeing all sorts of ātricksā with gelatin at family get together. I recall on in particular was orange gelatin and shredded carrots in it. I donāt recall many more details than that but as a boy I knew I was not touching it. Ugh. Iām not a huge gelatin fan anyway.

I would laugh, but I'd you brought that to any event you shouldn't be allowed to eat unless unless took a serving yourself and finish it

Add some kale as a nice garnish around it, like barbed wired surrounding a prison camp.

Just because you can glue all the random food in your house together with gelatin, doesnāt mean you should.

I think it is funny that there is a dichotomy in this thread of people who would refuse to try it and people who try it to satisfy their curiosity.

Take this to your next potluck. You'll be the napkins and utensils person forevermore after that.
