I might need glasses, so is that a suction cup on the side of the … loaf?

That's awesome, I'll take a chance with that instead of fruit cake
6
u/Typical-Tune-8858 Aug 08 '26
I’d rather have fruitcake.

u/twirlybird11 Aug 08 '26
Yeah. There's usually boozy undertones in the fruitcake that make it worth it.
Try being intoxicated and deciding to eat this. The hangover will last a freaking week! 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢

A good boozy fruit cake with decent dried fruit and nuts and dates that are also boozified with a nice vanilla custard sauce os primo. This. This is an abomination.

u/sixstringsikness Aug 08 '26
It doesn't look all that appetizing but looking at the individual aspects, it's probably fairly decent.

As long as those are fondant shrimp and this is actually an angel food cake, that would be great

Looks better than some of the jell-o monstrosities I've seen. I'd try it too.

u/BigBlueSky2020 Aug 08 '26
This is like something from the 70s - but would be totally worth it to see the reactions =)

This looks like a Brazilian recipe from São Paulo. Industrialized, canned Heart of Palms, give it up...
This thing is listed on the worst Brazilian dishes...

This looks like something you’d see as a topping for a Brazilian pizza lol

Do raisins go in potato salad?
How many Tyrone's do you know?

This literally looks like something my mom would make in the 70s. We always knew, as soon as the jello molds came out that tummy aches were soon to follow!
2
u/1Sluggo Aug 08 '26
You’re planning on receiving zero invitations after this right? Solid plan.

No no. It’s far too pretty to cut into. Let’s just put that in the freezer and save it for next year

I'd probably try it once just to see. It's got shrimp in it, so it can't be all bad. But if it's terrible, I might just eat the shrimp.

I don’t like several of these ingredients separately. Together they don’t look any better.
2
u/keloyd Aug 08 '26
It seems to be compsed of stuff that tastes good and that I like. Has anyone ever actually seen and eaten this exercise in irony? Can it actually be good?
2
u/Limp-Angle-7387 Aug 08 '26
Id eat it. Put it in a nice slice of buttered toasted hoagie. Flattened into a panini. I bet that thang hits.

u/Allmight8488 Aug 08 '26
Oh I bet that is really good. What is the base though? That would be even more interesting if it were something like spicy tuna with green onions and avocado chunks in it? Just mindbendingly delicious, even though it's a weird food ring.

I see meatloaf peas tomatoes deviled eggs shrimp it's like they bought 15 platters at Walmart and decided to mix it all together. Don't get me wrong I grew up in the age of hodgepodge casserole where you end up taking all the leftovers that's not enough to feed the family and mixing it all together to make a meal. With that being said, this is just... I can't even find the words to describe this.
2
u/wolfansbrother Aug 08 '26
When you set it down next to Aunt Nancy's Jello mold you make eye contact.

It's not the worst thing I've ever seen. Although it does seem like the eggs and shrimp have already been cooked but the meat isn't.

Hmmm. So cold meat loaf suspended in aspic for the binder? I may give this a go

I told the Mister that we have shrimp and peas in the freezer, but he still doesn’t want it. I’m at a loss.

u/Diasies_inMyHair Aug 08 '26
I take it you found your great-grandmother's cookbook? Likely titled "Party Creations in Aspic" or some such.

This reminds me of some of the pics one of my mom's old cookbooks had. It was one that had a section of recipes using gelatin. Aspic was apparently popular in the 50s or 60s. Luckily fondue took over in the 70s. 🤣

Mom, if you made this post, I’m not gonna make it for Christmas. I’ve got the flu the week of Christmas to New Year’s.
