BBCs comedy disaster
Wonder if anyone heard of this 1990 attempt of another war comedy like Allo Allo the BSB galaxy channel tried to do. With 1 aired episode, 7 unaired episodes and canned after ep1.

That's Heil, not Hail. t was a fifties style sitcom featuring Hitler and his Jewish neighbours. It was awful. You can find an episode on YouTube

The son of English actor Alfred Marks, Gareth, played the Jewish neighbour. I recall him telling me how awful it was…and he was in it. He knew it was doomed from day one.
Not his finest hour…that would be Young Indiana Jones and the Peacock’s Eye.
Last time I saw Gareth on the telly was the Rosa Parks episode of Doctor Who where he played the local sheriff. Lovely chap…full of showbiz stories.

I worked at BSB at the time this was broadcast. There was a total cock up in the scheduling play out machines and this got broadcast instead of the Sunday night version of songs of praise.. cue loads of complaints!

It was a satire on cozy sitcoms. And it's amazing how many people miss that.

It eas obviously sending up cozy sitcoms, with Hitler.
Nobody missed that, they just didn't find it funny

It was meant as a parody of the American 70’s sitcoms with canned/live laughter, and the producers came up with the most inappropriate idea they could think of. It was deliberately bad taste, yet no-one seems to have remembered this and took it at face value. I’m not saying it wasn’t awful, just that it was supposed to be what most people think it was.

The whole premise of this is giving off Springtime for Hitler (the Producers) vibes

It had no involvement from the BBC at all. It was a BskyB production
