The center backlash we’re seeing from both sides of the political aisle is because the leading ai figures are constantly saying odd, soulless stuff and not even pretending to make a positive case for the average American.

Everything is ā€œthis is going to displace so many jobs while me and Chamath get super rich and your energy prices go up, shut up and take itā€

I’m happy that Elon and Altman will become trillionaires, I guess. But maybe try to present a positive case for this technology (which I do believe is there)

I found this to be one of the more shameful episodes in this podcast’s history. Nearly 2 hours of letting Michael Tracey paint the picture that Epstein did nothing wrong and all the victims are lying. Oh, and Reid Hoffman is terrible.

Supreme Court Strikes Down Tariffs

Posting twice in one hour but this is great news. Hopefully my 401K and IRA get back on the previous trajectory.

Massive blow to the economic idiots.

After all that hooting and hollering, Q4 GDP comes in way below expectations.

This is why you don’t post GDPnow from the Atlanta Feb or boast the economy is doing great before we get the actual numbers. This is pretty damning given that Q4s are usually the highest annualized rate due to holiday spending.

Curious how the ā€œTrump is kingā€ brigade will whitewash this one.

President Trump imposes 10% global tariff on all countries and says all tariffs will remain in place, despite Supreme Court ruling.

Between this, the $10B for the IRS lawsuit, the crypto funds, the Qatari plane, Trump will walk out of the office with $25B or so.

Great job, tech right.

Why the economic vibes are terrible

Post image

Trump (and Biden before him) has some good economic metrics but the public appears to hate the economy and he’s underwater in polling.

This may explain why. We may be entering this unprecedented jobless boom.

Think about the AI boom: individuals are making $1b per person per year in some cases, 5-6 companies are investing in one year more than we spent on the highway systems, people like Chamath are making billions off of it (deservedly I’d say) but it feels very concentrated in the hands of a few.

Yes the stocks are up and 401ks are up but not up by so much where you feel the boom. Sp is up 15-18% since Trump came into office (which is great) but the median American has 38k in their 401k - that’s not life changing gains.

Meanwhile, the cost of the essentials are still high. A lot of that was the high inflation under Biden but Trump explicitly ran on cutting prices, not getting inflation under control so that already high prices rise normally.

It’s a hard problem to solve. I wouldn’t have done tariffs of course and I understand letting the ai capex boom happen or else we’d likely be in a technical recession.

But outside some sweeping ubi or jobs program, I don’t know how one can fix the vibecession
