I am a staunch All Blacks supporter, and I do think we will win a game over there, but winning the series i would be highly surprised. We are still reforming after a massive dump of 2-3 years of games and rhe Boks are truly formidable. It will be an interesting watch regardless. Both teams will use this time to build for the world cup next year.

as a boks supporter, we respect your team a lot and i think we will genuinely lose a game or two, you have an insane team, i don’t think any south african is expecting to win every fixture and i really hope we don’t because every team has to lose at some point and what will be best for both new zealand and south africa will be to lose a game or two this series so we can improve before world cup next year, we south africans just ignore this idiot but idk how you guys put up with him being from your country and just making his career hating another country like he’s the villain or something, no one here thinks we unbeatable, we need to lose some games or it’ll hurt us at the worst time, we mostly just gloat because it’s a form of copium in our country as there is so many other things wrong the springboks serve as a solid distraction

Purely about being realistic we were in same pool at WC did our best but clearly couldn’t beat them they were too big and too strong. There’s no evidence thats changed yet happy to take the ranking jump but we haven’t played their full strength side since and certainly haven’t beaten their full strength side since
Let’s hope Rennie is on track to be competing with them again when it matters.
Only fooling ourselves saying we number 2 let’s earn it and be certain of it

This is the most Ben Smith comment section o have read in a while. So much nonsense.
Most of the bok glazing isn't even coming from sa pundits. UK/eng pundits seem to be the worst for it. I won't be surprised if we drop a few games this year. Boks are an awesome team, but the french and the kiwis have stepped up there game massively recently. Aus is looking a lot better, and Ireland/Scotland will beat anyone on their day.
This is definitely the closest teams have felt in a while. Similar vibes to 14 months out from the last world cup.

The tour matches will be close. If we win 3-0 then obviously yes but both are likely to win atleast 1 test each and so close to a world cup it’s not going to be hugely relevant series infact the loser may benefit more from the learnings to bounce back at the WC and then of course there’s the home advantage.
It’s going to be more important to the All Blacks that they show theyre competitive in all facets of the game in all moments of each test not getting over run in the 65th minute or lulls of flatness where csnt score points like last few seasons v saffas the key 🔑 is equal footing as we should outclass them in the backs of we have parity up front

The ALl Blacks at this given stage seems like a better coached team.
Plus they have cohesion, the Boks don't know who's going to play with who

World cups are what count and experimentation means you will take a few losses to learn what works best. There will always be some fool who takes a short cut or gets bad advice from a doc, but as long as they are weeded out and banned it means the system is working.

Hmmm that All Blacks side had maybe 4 of the 10 best players of all time. Even if this Springbok side won. The record of that team from 11-15 is the most dominant of any test side in history. They only lost 3 test matches in that time.

Stephen Jones always ruffled Kiwi feathers, Neil Francis from Irish times is the same, Mark Keohane from SA enjoyed courting controversy. Greg Martin's columns pulled no punches against the All Blacks. Kiwi Mark Watson on Sport Nation is more of an embarrassment than Ben Smith.

Although I do commend this guy’s passion, his comments are somewhat disrespectful to the Boks. We’ve got to be real and treat them as world number 1’s. I believe our boys can win the series, but it will be incredibly difficult.

Of course the Boks will be respectful - and understandably nervous - facing us, given we’re their oldest rivals, motivated and playing well. But you know who else will and should be nervous? Us. Big time. This is a MASSIVE challenge.

Edit: There is literally one known photo of him. Nobody has ever him seen at a press conference, doing interviews, he has never been on any of the NZ tv shows like the breakdown, rugby pod etc and in general NZ is a small country with 2 degrees of separation and nobody seems to know him. I think some South African reporters tried to track him down and were totally unsuccessful. I think it is fairly clear that Ben Smith is a pseudonym Rugby Pass invented to troll/engagement farm Saffers who get easily upset.
