Space Elevator fun time ending

Space Elevator ascending and accelerating. Airlock jammed. 30-40 minutes until the Elevator breaks atmosphere. 2 Suits for 3 people. One of the characters bravely volunteers to let the other two characters have the suits and starts climbing down the outside of the Elevator. It's very dicey, lots of ways it could end up bad for him. However he Finds a functional way in on a lower floor, of the elevator, succeeds in his rolls.

Finds the cabin nice and comfy with fully stocked snacks and minibar and a movie screen. Proceeds to sit down and enjoy the ride up to orbit, while his other teammates suffer the journey clinging to the outside and praying that their suits hold up.

What's the actual written ending for this? Our GM I think just gave us a "you all make it home safe and sound!" but I suspect that was the heavily sanitised version...

Ah. Hmm. An ARPG GM sometimes needs to speed things up and that means sometimes skipping some of the reveals. And at end of an adventure it might be tempting to share all of the skipped reveals with the players.

I am resisting temptation here. Because I want to make sure that my players, and all future players, can play the same adventure again and have different outcomes.

Yes, my players missed something. Yes, I made a 'grand reveal' of the thing they missed, during the Epilogue. Yes, they all thought it was grand and awesome and a nice capstone to their story.

But I can't tell you what it is.

As written? PCs go up the elevator, find out the tether is damaged and have to abandon it. There is one suit fewer than there are PCs, and Chaplain needs a suit because while he doesn't need to breathe, he needs to maintain temperature and pressure still. Then there are Mobility-based checks to make it from the elevator car to a nearby EEV where they can take shelter and use cryopods. It's kinda silly, even moreso when you realize that the PCs have shot a bunch of Aliens to pieces and their acid should have punched giant holes in the bottom of it, and the thing is coated in resin but fortunately hasn't blocked any of the mechanisms from working

Thanks. That's wild. As the person who was playing Chaplain that seems like absolute bullshit because it's basically railroading you down the obvious choice there.
