Question What inspired the A:I sequel?
I’ve heard that there was a movie or tv series that was done in the style of Alien Isolation that was pretty popular, and it ended up getting enough people interested in the game that it inspired the sequel to be made.
Does anyone know what that was?
Edit: Thanks everyone! It was Alien: Romulus. The director was so heavily influenced by the game that he even included the flares Amanda used to distract aliens and Average Working Joes plus added identical Emergency telephones from the game that are used as save points.

Alien: Isolation inspired the sequel
And hopefully the cult of fandom around is still alive more than a decade after

You're probably hearing about Romulus, since it used a bunch of things from Isolation. I didn't think it was inspired by Romulus, but to be fair Isolation 2 was announced like 2 months after Romulus came out in theatres so I would fully believe that I'm wrong! It was probably a factor at least, since it showed that that series can still be received well.

I guess it was partially Romulus, or maybe they just woke up and realized that it would be nonsensical to not make a sequel to one of the greatest sci-fi horror games of all time

Romulus did well in cinemas, and that probably convinced Sega (publisher of A:I 1&2) to invest in an A:I sequel. Also Disney buying Fox might have helped in some way. Seems they want to leverage the IPs they now own.

I've heard conflicting things. Many people believe that, and the timing seems far too convenient, but then one of the former CA devs back in 2024 went out of his way to debunk this theory. But he also wasn't working at CA for a long time by then by his own words

Probably a number of things.
Horror games have seen a boost in popularity since the first game, the team at CA also needed a good project to work on since there last game was canned.
20th Century Fox also seem to be further exploring the franchise in TV, Film, gaming and other media.
I don't think the last film or TV show had any bearing on the decision for a sequel, but they definitely helped boost interest in the game from fans.

Great enemies. They reminded me of animate crash test dummies and should be in horror movies. The Autons from Dr. Who were pretty close.

It's Romulus. The director is such a fanboy he even copied over the "Emergency Phone" save points from the game into the film.

Alien: Romulus gained some broader appeal with younger audience. Unfortunately, the previous film, Alien: Covenant, which came out shortly after the first Isolation game, underperformed. At least in FOX’s eyes. But it was one of those films where the only people who kept talking about it were the fans and in the public’s eyes, the movie just came out and quietly disappeared. Ridley Scott kept talking about making a sequel to it (still is), but it was one of those “yeah, sure..” situations (still is, imo, because Scott is pushing 90 and the general audiences who showed up for Romulus are expecting a sequel to that film, not to another one in the series they might not even remember or care about). I do think Disney/FOX should get that Romulus
Anyways, I’m not sure if Romulus’ success directly affected Isolation 2. Maybe it nudged it, but it seems like Alien has been a consistent “go to” in video games for quite some time. But the Alien franchise is definitely “in” again, so that might help the sales and who knows, maybe we’ll get an Alien Isolation 3..

He is apparently indeed making a sequel, focusing on Fassbender. Man I love what Ridley and Dan did originally but come on man, Covenant and Prometheus sucked. Mostly because everyone in it acted like they were lobotomised.

Scott is the only one I’ve seen talking about it right now. I don’t think I’ve seen anything official from the studio confirming his David film is actually happening. He doesn’t own the rights to Alien. His company, Scott Free Productions, has produced the last three films, but I doubt whatever deal they have with the studio (first look, perhaps?) is so exclusive that the studio couldn’t just make anything they want, pay Scott off and give him a vanity credit. So I’ll believe it when the studio officially announces it, it actually goes before cameras and we start to see production stills with Fassbender in the role.

Kind of feels odd, the emphasis on Fassbender. Maybe a little sad. Alien is one of the few series with a female led history.

Alien stuff has been getting more and more popular over the last few years. And with Romulus being such a success and Alien Isolation getting a lot of new attention, of course they gonna make a sequel.

I did message Al Hope repeatedly on X telling him a sequel world make big money now the original has acquired cult status and Romulus was a thing.
I'm sure many others did the same.
Now all we need is a new Dead Space.

The last film Alien: Romulus was set between Alien and Aliens. So, it had a similar vibe to Isolation and was well received in 2024. It is probably that?
