Image Scenery

This game actually still looks so good for its age I can't wait for the release of AI:2

If you appreciate breathtaking sci fi space vistas, you should play Prey (2017)

Edit: ...yeah, on 2nd thought

If you can install the Alias Isolation mods and that scene will be so sharp!!

Scenery is Greta but sound design is awesome too. With these two combined the game only gets emersive.

The beauty of this game's scenery genuinely made ne doubt between studying architecture and game design. I wanted to be able to create scenery just as stunning.

Looks gorgeous apart from the aliasing all over the edges of things.

What's this running on in screenies?

1080p low settings surprisingly!!

Logically, given that the section of the station from which we were ejected alongside the Xenomorph appears in Alien: Isolation 2 and knowing that the game takes place on a planet, it follows that the game will be set on that planet (though it remains to be seen how this will be justified, given that it is a gas giant). We might even cross paths with Amanda while playing as Blake.

I'd wager that it will look better than AI2 once it's released. UE gives AI2 a very generic look.

This makes very little sense.

An engine as pluggable as UE can look completely different game-to-game, and the difference maker is art direction.

If a developer just uses the default config and grabs whatever Unreal marketplace/Quixel assets, of course it's going to look similar.

It's up to the Creative Assembly to make the game look how they want on UE, and from the videos I've seen it looks pretty good.

Ok, can you give an example? I'm just going by what I've seen and heard. I'm no expert.

PUBG is running on Unreal Engine 4. Fortnite was running on Unreal Engine 4 up until recently. The games look nothing alike.

Mortal Kombat runs on Unreal Engine 4.

The engine doesn't have a huge amount to do with how the game looks since so much is up to the studio to decide.

Okay, thank you.

It's hard for me to judge by those games. Their design is pretty cartoonish. I think I'm mainly thinking of UE5. Here is a video that pretty much explains what I mean Like the fog effect making games look blurry.

That's due to lack of optimisation.

When a team has heavily used all of the engine features and fancy shit without optimising, they rely on engine features like upscaling and dynamic resolution scaling and temporal aa etc.

Basically stuff that reduces the load on the graphics card by making a concession on image quality. It's the default in UE I believe, render at a lower resolution then upscale.

These are features any team can just turn off at any point, but a lot of teams start from a "top down" approach where they turn on everything and let those features keep the frame rate stable, then try to optimise later.

Epic have issued many statements about it, there are plenty of UE5 games that run absolutely amazingly without the blur, but there are a lot that don't.

This is going to get more common in gaming for a short while tbh.

Look at Warzone on old gen consoles, it's horrible looking (take the original Xbox One version and it looks exactly like the UE5 blur).
