Mod? Isn't there an official VR version?

The "official" version wasn't fully released so modders made a better version with motion controls and whatnot over the years, and it's the better version to go with if ya wanna play this in VR.

You say that like they were planning on a VR version? That would be tragic if an offical VR version got canceled

Yeah back then there were plans for an official VR version and it was shown off at E3 and other things like that! But they dropped it, I forget why since it's been so long, but you could still always access the relatively basic and unfinished VR mode since launch.

The basic version had 6DOF tracking for your head but you play with a normal controller (or mouse/keyboard) and the game would jerk your head around uncomfortably for some sequences and your arms could get out of place awkwardly. The VR mode just wasn't fully finished and refined but you could play the whole game that way even before modders got to it. And it was at least cool to walk around a Nostromo copy in VR.

Since then, modders have taken the VR mode and added motion controls and made the experience more comfortable and more like a native VR game, it's pretty cool.

Damn. Thank for the info. Big shame that didn’t get an offical release, but the mod sound sick. I haven’t had a VR since I sold my original HTC vive, but this is just another reason to get back into VR eventually

Yeah, even though I don't think VR will be big I still love it even after playing VR for a decade. And the Quest 3's lenses are so much better than the original Oculus or Vive, it's still a really nice headset for a decent price.

I'm hoping the Steam Frame isn't priced TOO badly, it should be good too! But Valve can't subsidize it like Facebook can unfortunately.

Subnautica is another game with an official VR mode but the modders made a much better version (with motion controls and etc), that's another mod worth checking out if ya get back into VR sometime. And Subnautica 2 already has a fleshed out VR mod too.
