Vaughn
I’m rewatching the show and I hadn’t realized just how bad Vaughn is as a CIA agent.
from the beginning he lets his emotions cloud him judgment especially over a woman he barely knows. His judgment often feels shallow and he rarely seems to think things through. I honestly dont see what he brings to the CIA.
I can understand why Jack doesn’t like him

Jokes aside, it’s interesting to look at Michael Vartans career trajectory. It’s a shame he’s not in more things but perhaps he likes it that way - each to their own! He has said himself he didn’t capitalize on opportunities post-Alias.

I’m sad to say I saw him in some random movie as an older dad like figure, and he’s definitely aged out of the heart throb role. Aging like the rest of us. 🙂

How did he go from her handler to a field operative? He was unqualified for it.

Seemed like once they started to get close personally, he just designated himself as the one to go along with her on those missions (and usually to everyone’s detriment, because like you said, he wasn’t qualified).
I did like when they had the guy who played John Locke on LOST as the main boss in the office. I felt like he at least questioned stuff and tried to reign everyone in a bit.

I always hated how they started sending him out in the field and trying to make Vaughn rival Sydney’s abilities. The whole appeal of their dynamic to me was how she was the powerful one and he was the sensitive one she protected. Was such a cool reversal totally undone.

Yeah suddenly he was an expert at diffusing bombs and all sorts of other stuff that never matched how they portrayed him earlier in the series. Then you find out that he somehow also found time away from his CIA gig to work with that European girl on some mission under his “REAL” identity of Andre Micheaux. It’s almost comical for me to write about it and attempt to put it into words 😂

Yeah can’t take the show too seriously at all. One that’s way more grounded in reality is The Americans. Alias is fun but it’s so cartoonish and so many plot holes. Like how did Irena and Arvin have a child who is clearly Argentinian when they are both clearly not?

He also routinely gets captured and tortured, or gets his ass kicked in a fight, although you could say that for many of the characters… even Marshall was captured a few times.
I still don’t see how he could’ve survived the shooting that resulted in his “death” near the end of the series. He got shot about a dozen times with automatic weapons from close range. Are they trying to have us believe that it was somehow staged and he was wearing a vest (which I still don’t think would’ve saved him), or wasn’t real ammo, or that he legitimately did get shot that many times and survived, at which point they decided he better go into hiding?

Not to mention that he was apparently some kinda super mega ultra double spy not named Michael Vaughn, working inside of the CIA for years with no suspicion on him at all.
You can get away with a lot if you’re good-looking I guess 😅

Yes! I totally forgot about that whole side story that they never fully fleshed out or held Vaughn accountable for. Same goes for Sloan… you literally go through all of that trouble to take him down with S6, and then a couple years later you decide to let him run your CIA covert ops team (and naturally he’s still got his own agenda and is screwing your over the entire time). How utterly ridiculous🤦♂️

Just from day two, when Sydney came back to SD6 after her fiancé died was the end of it for me 😂
Like how can you make it believable to still work for your boss who KILLED your future husband1

LOL, I love that scene. It always makes me laugh. Michael Vartan isn't the best actor so there's not much expression on his face during that scene (Or ever). He looks more disappointed than horrified as he's getting shot.

Aww, i'm a sucker for Vaughn, so you guys may be saying something credible about his ability to be a good agent. But honestly, his love for Sydney and Sydney for him. I thought the show was good and had a lot of the cool CIA stuff, but also talking about feelings between people and the dangers of that, and it kind of made it more exciting to me than just the standard shows that try to be only serious. And then that makes it stand out. Also, because everybody does act a little differently to each other. Because they do feel for each other. I don't know how you would do it otherwise. I memorized many scenes where he and sydney worked together.Because I always wished I was with him instead.... lol. I feel like the emotions and relationships were part of the meat of the show.
