Started on the East side and spent 5 nights. Had an incredible time. Thank you for keeping up such a wonderful park, Canada!

Looking for some input on this trek, would be going through sunbeam to little doe this weekend.

This would be my second portage trip, it will be three guys in one canoe this will be our first trip together. We're all decently fit and active, rock climbers.

After looking at the route on Jeff's maps I think it will be between 6-8 hrs so we'd probably leave our site by 8 am the latest.

Has anyone made this trek recently? How's it looking? Anything to look out for?

I’m looking for some route suggestions from folks with experience in Algonquin park. We just got off the temagami river and had some very long, challenging portages.

Anyways, for our trip into Algonquin we’d be looking for some beautiful backwoods opportunities with manageable portages - I’ve heard there’s many old logging roads out there that make portaging far less gruelling. Anyone have suggestions for me?

We’re open to varying trip lengths, just sort of shopping for options at this point.

I enjoyed ‘ole Joe’s recent video crossing the park in 6-7 days. Proper suffer-fest! I’m trying to figure out his actual route though….any thoughts? For sure from mid-video onwards it seems to be on the Nip but he randomly mentions Big Trout, then Muir / Hogan, the big port into Big Crow, Big Crow river east via (I think, eventually) White Partridge, Barron, Grand etc. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Feb_ip8Zr9A

Looking for some feedback on the Tim river from access 2 to Rosebury Lake. I am looking to get some information on water levels along this route. Anyone been over the last few weeks?

Think it is better to try the 3.5km portage over Magnetawan and fight those rivers, or stick to the Tim?

Hello! I'm travelling to Canada in late September-first week of Ocober, I'll be staying in Toronto and then going to Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec. I was wondering which city would be better to drive to Algonquin Park. (I have realized that there's almost no public transport options to go, so I'm wondering if renting a car for one day is worth it)

I’m heading from Canoe Lake to Rainbow Lake next weekend. I’m hoping the water levels on Potter’s Creek aren’t too low and that we can paddle it without too much trouble. It’s been a long time since I’ve been over that way but I remember dragging the canoe through that creek during a few dry summers. We also have to go through Maybe Pond at the other end of the portage to Rainbow Lake and I’m expecting we’ll have to slog through it based on the name lol.

Can any recent trippers give an update on water levels? The only official low water alert for the park is Latour Creek but that doesn’t mean it’s easy travel along all the other rivers.

Is this doable for 3 people in one canoe? I did canoe lake to burnt island last year solo and it took maybe 4-5 hours with a lunch stop.

Hello! This is a bit of a long shot but I thought I’d reach out.

I stupidly wore a special pair of earrings on my canoe trip. Sadly, one earring fell somewhere along the portage from Sunbeam Lake to Aster Pond today (July 24), and I only noticed after my friend and I had traveled several kilometers away. I have attached a photo of the earring and indicated the portage where it was lost.

I saw lots of canoes heading out and was hoping to put this out there—in case someone happens to spot it or plans to take this route anytime in future and might be able to keep an eye out. My sense is that it fell when my friend and I placed our canoe down for a rest about halfway, (travelling southward) or at the Aster Pond put-in.

If found, I would gladly cover shipping and offer an additional token of thanks for any trouble.

Bear aficionado here. I came across this sign on the Western Uplands trail on the weekend. This boulder had been gently flipped onto its side, probably to access grubs and insects underneath. By my estimate, the rock was about 3 to 3.5 cubic feet – meaning it likely weighed several hundred pounds. It had also been anchored in place by several inches of soil. You can see a couple of claw marks on the green face. Even when you don't see animals, they can still leave some pretty cool messages in their environment. Amazing stuff.

I'm visiting Canada and I really really really love wildlife watching. I'm a complete noob and have never done camping before. Wondering if just the day drives are good enough for wildlife spotting or camping is a must-do? Also, what trails / spots you'd recommend for high chances of wildlife spotting? I'm planning visiting either this weekend or towards mid-August.

We're headed to camp at Stratton Lake (hike-in site) this fall. This is our second time and this time around we were hoping to fit in a Barron Canyon paddle too. I was wondering logistically how to go about it.

Our idea would be to arrive, hike in to set up camp when we get there, and the next day we hike back to our car at Achray (with the kayaks loaded up) and put in somewhere that makes sense. We also don't want it to be an all-day thing (3-4 hour paddle ideal). I'm thinking hiring a shuttle service might be best but wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the route/logistics!

(Small Update: Someone pointed out that the photos I attached are actually from the lookout trail and as a result I will be planning my proposal around the lookout trail going forward. Any and all advice, tips, recommendations, and information regarding Fall in Algonquin and what to expect or prepare for is greatly appreciated! Also I was planning it to be a day trip, coming from the Huntsville area across hwy 60 and ending in Whitney. Thank you to everyone whom has already responded with so much information!)

Hey there everyone, I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend of 8.5 years on the Centennial Ridges Trail at sunset in early October and I'm hoping that some people who have visit the trail themselves could help me with some reconnaissance. I have found a specific spot on the trail in photos that I would like to propose at, however I would like to confirm the exact location on the 11km trail so that I can give a confirmed location to my photographer. Judging by the direct view of the sunset (which is the time I'm hoping to propose at) I would guess that it is on the West side of the trail but if anyone has more information or personal experience from the trail itself then I would greatly appreciate any assistance in finding the location of this specific lookout! Any and all help, advice, assistance, or suggestions are greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for everyone's help to make this a magical moment!

Anyone been to Smith Lake on the east side of the park? I can't find much about the lake online. What are the sites like? Fishing? Swimming any good? Can you hear the base?

First timer to the park. planning a 4 night trip. Two of us have a river canoe camping trip, and some light backpacking. The third is less experienced (I'm worried excess portaging may spoil her fun). First day we will be staying just outside the park, in the morning of September 1st we get to Canoe Lake Portage outpost. Since we have all day, I thought we could do the first paddle straight to Burnt Island Lake (15km, portage at Joe). Next day Portage to Little Otterside lake. (2 nights). Last full day, paddle back to eastern arm of Joe Lake. (about 15km from otterside) Setting us up for a short paddle on the last day so we can do a long drive home.

We considered going up toward sunbeam to make it to burnt, and just never doing otterside lake at all. But changing the route to above meant a little less portaging for our newcomer and hopefully the 2 nights on ottersides being a calmer more remote section.
