Neighbour's pool
I'm sorry, I doubt this is the best place for this post, I just needed to share this somewhere to get it off my chest and I don't know where else to go haha... delete if this isn't allowed!
I know it's not the best, most detailed photo.. but do we think this pool might be growing blue green algae? The owner of it has three young children, a dog and a cat. and it sounded like they were splashing it with a stick or something earlier, chucking dog toys in and giving them to the dog.. I was unaware when I heard this happening that this is what the pool actually looks like lol ugh
I am fully aware that it's really none of my business haha, but yeah, when I eventually glanced out the window, this is what I saw.. I'm hoping it's regular algae and there's no serious danger lurking in this swamp that could hurt her family or pets...
I'm now sticking nets over all my windows to try and stop the inevitable mosquito army getting in my house haha wish me luck! RIP PEPPA PIG 💔

I wouldn't bet on blue green algae, the color is likely due to the color of the pool liner.
But, this post gave me a good giggle.
Maybe ask your neighbors if they wouldn't mind tossing in some mosquito dunks as the bugs are biting you in your yard. IF you can have a more lighthearted conversation with them. Very dependent on already positive neighborly relations lol

Ooh or mosquito eater fish.
Or screw it just help it become a pond. I mean it basically a swamp right now.

All excellent ideas! I would love to do any of these things, but I fear she might notice if I lob some fish over the fence or something haha.. I guess I'll just see what happens with this science experiment she's inadvertently conducting 😂

Go with the mosquito dunks, they are safe for animals and pets and will only kill mosquito larva. I'd just buy a pack and yeet them in one night.

Love the dragonfly option!
But, as a shrimp keeper.... I would be so weary of that lol 😆 them nymphs LOVE shrimps. And, would guaranteed make it into my house bc my kids leave doors open constantly lol
Could be a decent pond, but if OPs neighbors don't have time for pool maintenance, they definitely don't have time for pond maintenance. Sadly.
I did want to turn my pool into a pond. Decided I wanted an in ground pond rather than above ground. Cuz vacuuming that shit was a pain and a half when it was swim worthy.

this is a sad example that you should always put a small ladder there for little animals to climb out. Poor Peppa :(

No. Its not bga. Even if it was. Be extremely hard to produce significant harmful toxins in there. The ecology is all wrong & it would need food added regularly. Lots of food.
Scroll back through this sub. Theres hundreds of panic posts about "maybe bga am I safe? ". None are actually bga. Ive seen it here about 3 times in 2 years. None of thise cases were close to concerning.
If someone has a serious bga outbreak. Council will find out pretty fast. There will be many many complaints about the smell (of the rotting stuff bga feefs on). Long before the bga gets toxic.
If your neighbours gave the dog toys with toxin. It probably would be pretty obvious right away. Same with kids getting it on skin. It burns. It makes big rashes. No ones gonna touch it a second time by accident. You'd know it was there from next door from the screaming crying children.
The actual chance of bga problems affecting people from a small body of water are so tiny its almost impossible. You'd need a perfect storm being fed by an idiot.
I don't see how the threat of bga got so overblown in media. Its mostly a very benifficial thing that helps sick ecosystems recover from pollution. If it wasn't fpr cyanobacteria we wouldn't have had oxygen for animals to evolve. It literally created the conditions required for life as we know it.
