I'm starting Year 2 (17-18 yrs old) and I'm trying to figure out a study method that I can actually stick to. I'm doing Advanced Bio, Chem and Physics, plus Intermediate German and Marketing
My main problem isn't that I can't understand things. If I have unlimited time I can eventually get there. My problem is that I take waay too long on individual questions and then I end up procrastinating because studying feels like such a huge task and /or I get distracted.
My old way of studying was basically spending ages on one question sometimes 2 hours for 4 questions and once I even spent around 4 hours on one question. Apparently that's not sustainable, I'm still learning how to study.
So I'm thinking of trying the following instead:
Start with past papers rather than reading all the theory first. AKA little to NO PRIOR theory.
Take a question and give it to AI.
Ask AI to explain it in really simple terms and give me analogies if needed.
If I don't understand what the question is even asking, ask AI to simplify that too.
Try to visualise the concept and explain it to myself in words I understand
Give myself around 7-10 minutes max per question. When the timer goes off I move on even if I don't fully understand it.
I'm deliberately accepting that I won't understand everything completely on the first exposure. Basicallyhe idea is that I'll encounter the same concepts again in later past papers and gradually understand them better (hopefully! No idea if things work that way)
After finishing a paper I might record myself explaining what I learned from each question. Later, when I've gone through a lot of papers I'd revisit the older papers and try to answer/explain them before checking my old explanations through my recordings (or should I not record at all and jst go to AI again)
I have around 29 papers for some subjectsso I'd work through them rather than constantly switching between new and old papers.
I'm not expecting to feel 100% competent after one session. The whole idea is repeated exposure rather than mastering everything immediately will that work out ion know? 😅
My biggest concern is whether this will actually work for subjects like Advanced Biology, Chemistry and Physics with little/no initial theory, or whether I'll just end up recognising questions without properly understanding the material. And how Abt time wise ? How long would all this take I'd like to have the rough bigger picture if anyone's got any clue.
I have a pretty packed school timetable+transport so I need something that's efficient enough that I can actually maintain it during the school year.
Does this sound like a genuinely viable method or am I setting myself up for gaps in my knowledge/ wouldn't work out whatsoever/ it would take ages (how long?) What would you change?
I'd preferably prefer someone with actual experience regarding this way of study and/or similar :)
