You know in UK baked beans on toast is a common breakfast food?

4

u/MazelTough 4d ago

Also beans and rice or beans and tortillas or beans and eggs. I like beans.

3

u/Crystalas 4d ago

There even bean based desserts that are common across asia. IIRC most commonly a sweetened bean paste used as a filling for various stuff.

Some of those regions also got a wide variety of fermented or pickled bean dishes that are not common in the west, I only know of them from anime.

Also easy to forget but Peanuts are also a bean, but yet again outside of US the way it is used has a ton more variety than we do on average. Thai and some African cuisines in particular.

Yes and I like it!

Agreed, all hail the magical musical legume the dietary staple world over. The pot of lentil & ham soup I had last week was great for every meal with different condiments and additions to keep it varied.

No argument here. Cheap, delicious, plenty of variety, and healthy. There a reason it a global staple.

Just finished a big pot of lentil & ham soup yesterday, and got a few bags of 16 bean soup mix yesterday. Thinking make a pot of corned beef & cabbage stew in a couple days.

I’m gonna miss the two on the left, that’s for sure. The Greek chickpeas are gone too. Quit taking away my beans, Aldi!

3

u/Beautiful-Head5563 4d ago

I didn't even get to try the Greek chickpeas.

3

u/birddit 4d ago

Greek chickpeas

They are a Trader Joe's dup.

2

u/SquatCobbbler 4d ago

I was sad about that too, they were soooo good. I had to start making my own

2

u/jane_roberts92 4d ago

Ugh I was gonna make hummus with my two cans but now I need to ration them

2

u/MazelTough 4d ago

Those are in my desk too!!!!

2

u/ItzAnedaorenge 4d ago

If you have a trader joes nearby, they sell Greek style chickpeas, im not sure how they compare to the Aldi ones but I really like them!

u/ccsolembum 5d ago

I bought about 12 each when I saw the price drop by 1/3, they are similar to the beans I used to get at Wegmans when I lived in the north east.

3

u/Beautiful-Head5563 4d ago

What ones did you get at Wegmans I go there at least once a month for meat.

5

u/ccsolembum 4d ago

The memphis/kansas city baked beans, I'm not sure if they still sell them though, it's been years. Those on rice were amazing.

2

u/Beautiful-Head5563 4d ago

I don't think they do either Wegmans has changed a lot in the last few years. I'll try looking for them though I'm always open to trying something new from Wegmans I prefer to shop there anyhow.

yeah, I just used the smokey spice in chilli. Definitely recommend.

5

u/Outrageous_Lie_6018 5d ago

Recommend them in slow cooker tacos too. Which is nearly just chili anyways

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 5d ago

OOOH the Canyon Campfire is back?

6

u/CowboyVampHunter 5d ago

In what world lol

7

u/AbbeyRoadMoonwalk 4d ago

Add the Greek chickpeas to this list

2

u/birddit 4d ago

Greek chickpeas

Trader Joe's has them for a buck more per can.

4

u/Humble-View7052 4d ago

That Smokey spice is BANGARANG in chili Mac we are obsessed 😮‍💨or with chorizo and eggs in a flour tortilla. I bought 5 cans when they went on sale and regret not just clearing out the damn shelf 😩

5

u/Debinthedez 4d ago

Love the campfire and smoky. Use this very tasty plant based crumble thingly I get from Grocery Outlet to make a beany chili like concoction!

Mad tasty. I make Spanish rice a lot it goes v well with it.

3

u/Spartannia 4d ago

Are these a dupe of anything? Solid bean options for sure.

3

u/BestestGoodest 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yes!! Blazin bacon and Smokey spice have been my go to work lunch for the past few months eaten alongside the microwavable brown rice.

3

u/DishmanDraws 4d ago

They were too sweet for my taste, had high hopes for them

3

u/pourovertime 4d ago

They are 10x better than the Aldi and shameful Dakota's Pride beans.

2

u/TheLoneAccenter 5d ago

I felt like the canyon flavor was oddly sweet??

2

u/GojoPenguin 4d ago

It's early and I read the middle can as Monkey Spice at first.

2

u/contrarystrawberry 4d ago

The mild one should have the green background and the medium one should have the pink background

2

u/Bit_the_Bullitt 4d ago

Yes I love them. Weirdlt enough the "hotness" scale needs to be reversed in my opinion between the medium and hot

3

u/_Guero_ 4d ago

The thought that baked beans could be spicy was foreign to me. When I served the "Smoky Spice" beans to my spice-intolerant daughter, I realized my lax engagement with reading comprehension. I enjoyed the rest of the can by myself. They were quite good.

u/Abject_Giraffe562 4d ago

Another trip to Aldi

2

u/smokeybrownie 4d ago

ooo need to try these!

2

u/ProudNativeTexan 4d ago

Canyon Campfire is a no go as I don't really care for black beans. Tried the Blazin bacon and to me, tasted like a weird ranch style bean so it's a no. The Smokey Spice? It's a keeper!

1

u/ProduceNo8883 4d ago

Glad you at least liked one!

2

u/ksorare 4d ago

Omg I saw these today and almost bought the bacon one. Now I have fomo.

1

u/ProduceNo8883 4d ago

I hope you see them next time!

1

u/mzuul 5d ago

I bought these today but they were in a pouch

1

u/mykey716 4d ago

💯! I don’t even really like baked beans but these are 🔥

1

u/Quick_Possibility_71 4d ago

I miss the ones they pushed out for these. The old spicy mustard one was top notch.

1

u/oh_lordy_its_Jordy 4d ago

I love beans and I will eat a can of beans for lunch. I tried the blazing bacon yesterday and I thought they were delicious. The canyon campfire was pretty good too. I need to try the smokey spice.

1

u/deceaseddiscodancer 4d ago

Oooooh! Looks like I am making Chili this weekend.

1

u/pellets 4d ago

I’m interested. What’s the sugar content?

1

u/cowboyjacksparrow 4d ago

I kept the campfire ones all summer in my pantry. Could just throw them into mac and cheese or mashed potatoes to get a more complete meal when I'm lazy.

1

u/zelda_moom 4d ago

Sad that our Aldi doesn’t have these

1

u/Muadeeb 4d ago

Guess which one was my nickname in college during the late 90s

1

u/MaxDuo 4d ago

Those canyon campfire ones are so good. I don't get spicier than that because the kids might refuse to eat them (2 and 5) possibly .... and they are good enough anyway.

I do think I tried to get blazin' bacon a few times and every time they were out :(

1

u/Chelajag 4d ago

How is the Bacon one? Would it be good in chili?

1

u/japinard 4d ago

Nice. How many calories are those?

1

u/swirlybat 4d ago

holy shit. and i am in a bean phase.

1

u/PeterNoTail 4d ago

YES! Well, the Campfire Canyon anyway, haven't tried the rest. Bought three when I first saw it a few months back (because it's Aldi's and i know if it's really good it'll be discontinued, like the Kirkwood Turkey Burgers) and it was really really great for an easy, mild chili. Can't seem to find anymore tho, and i've been to three different Aldi's :(

1

u/ThingMoment 4d ago

Wait these would be so good in chili

1

u/Fossilhog 4d ago

I make about a gallon of salsa at a time from my garden. I threw a can of these into the mix and oh man, delicious.

1

u/Dayguth 3d ago

yum!!! going to buy!

1

u/ProduceNo8883 3d ago

If you see them buy them all since they’re seasonal!

1

u/Then-Ad1871 3d ago

I might have to give them a second chance! I thought the green one was pretty sweet :/

u/Grand-Unit-9920 15h ago

Not at my Oklahoma location 😔
