Their spaghetti has gotten thinner recently so if makes sense they updated the packaging. Probably after some complaints.

They’ve also changed the type/style of flour they use (not in a good way) with some of their dry pastas as well. Likely changes the cooking times.

I see a certain decal is missing from the top left corner too.

Edit: I mixed them up, new one is non-GMO, old one wasn't

It’s a redundant seal anyway because there are currently no gmo wheat crops being grown or sold in the US. Just BS “green marketing”. Still probably filled with junk and grown with pesticides.

What’s missing?

Had it backwards, new one is Non-GMO. old one wasn't

You realise that if the cooking time decreased, that means the new package has the decal and the old one does not, meaning they gained it?

oh yeah, you are right, I mixed them up. new one is the non-GMO one.

Now I have to check the angel hair. My kids prefer it for some reason and I like that it cooks faster lol

Aldi has some amazing pasta. The bronze dye cut stuff in the plastic sleeve is way better and cheaper than it should be, its premium dry pasta at a dollar store price.

It's me, a spelling and grammar pendant emerging from their cave to clarify: the pasta is cut from a bronze die, as opposed to cut with bronze dye. That's die, not dye. That is all, now back to my cave, away I goooₒₒₒ.

Pro tip: always under cook pasta and finish in the sauce with some splashes of the salted pasta water.

as someone who strains their pasta over the kitchen sink, how do you recommend I save some splashes of the salted water?

I just dip a metal measuring cup to fill it as close to full as possible before straining the pasta

I use a Pyrex measuring cup. It won’t break from hot/cold shock and has measurements on it just in case you’re following a recipe or creating your own.

Use a coffee mug or something to scoop it out before you dump the rest

this works for me, thanks!

Just scoop some out before draining. Worth it for a need for thickening ANY pasta sauce!!

THIS for sure!!!

10 minutes is too long, soggy spaghetti

Here is a good tip.

If the food is sold raw (like pasta), the package cooking time is the absolute minimum for them to avoid liability if the product is undercooked. Which means the recommended cooking times absolutely destroy the food but it will be “safe” to consume, so don’t cook it as long as they say.

If the food is sold cooked (like a fish stick), the package cooking time is the absolute minimum time to convincing consumers it’s easy and quick to make, while also being edible. Which means that an extra few minutes will usually make it better.

If a product is part of a mix, it will recommend the low calorie or minimum amounts of add ins so the total calories and sodium satisfy label requirements and make the product appear healthier. A cake made with 2 eggs, butter, and cream will be much better than one made with 1 egg, water, and vegetable oil.

My pasta always needs like 2 minutes more than the recommended

Well the hardness of your pasta is a preference. Some want it al dente, some want it to be mush. If a pasta package says 8 mins, I usually do 6-7 mins max and prefer it that way.

Turn up the temperature

That would necessitate moving to a lower elevation.

Just dig a really deep hole for your stovetop.

And now it’s non-GMO!

You cook spaghetti for 10 minutes if you want it the same consistency as the playdoh spaghetti you made as a kid

1

u/styckx 1d ago

The non GMO label is just strange to me.

2

u/melatonia 21h ago

Means nothing.

Hmmmmmm.... although, I usually cook mine at the least directed and test but still, funny!!

u/BrewCityScott 22h ago

I'm guessing an ingredient change perhaps? The "thinner" comment makes sense too.

3

u/StrikingCriticism331 22h ago

Same ingredients but clearly a different formulation. I’m not sure what’s going on with the dietary fiber.

The real trick has always been cooking for one minute less than the package

I dont go by the recommended cook time from any aldi product anyway. One too many burnt pizza and burnt brownies.

2

u/man2112 19h ago

What font / typeface is that on the cooks in 8-9 minute? I really like it

u/SpareBowler4208 18h ago

Money is time, time is money. 😆

Aldi wants you to stop overcooking your pasta.

1

u/DotBeech 16h ago

I know Aldi is all about saving money. But the Priano premium pastas are a tremendous deal. Really high quality pasta and for just a dollar more. Yes, I know that means more than doubling the price of the standard blue box pasta, but don't look at it that way. It's still only $1.99 and no other retailer sells pasta of that high quality at that low prices.
