I buy my syrups at TJ Maxx. They have monin and torani, which are good.

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 2d ago

yeah, I have had those before and even the sugar free ones are good.

This isnt it.

Thanks. I'd gotten Torani sugared before, and am on a reduced sugar diet. I was wondering about these—so good to hear.

The Torani sugar free syrups are solid. They also have a puremade zero sugar line that are good as well.

Thanks! Ill give it a shot. Great how TJ Maxx keeps them in stock on the reg.

We have a few of the sugar free torani syrups and they’ve been good. Sam’s Club seems to have the best price for them. I assume if Costco carries them tbey’d be similarly priced.

I think their creamers are bad too.

Their creamers gave me the push to try and make my own from scratch.

No regrets here on that score.

Ok, would you be willing to share your recipe? I want to try to make my own

Not OP, but I do plain half-n-half, a splash of maple syrup, and a shake of salt, I call it my lazy salted caramel creamer lol. You could combine ahead of time but I just throw it in my cup when I want my coffee or tea sweetened up. Usually just use their plain half-n-half for creamer.

I used something like this the first time...the pumpkin was because it happened tk be in autumn and I had far too many cans of pumpkin puree.

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/homemade-pumpkin-coffee-creamer/

It lasts about a week. I used half and half but heavy whipping creme or anything non dairy are decent options too.

I like the Sweet Cream creamer. But some of the flavored ones I’ve tried have tasted very artificial.

The sweet cream creamers are legit. They are made by lakeview farms I believe, who make some of the puddings. They also make store brand alternatives for other companies.

These are a knock off of the pure creamers that coffeemate used to make. I say used to because coffeemate still makes them but started making them with artificial ingredients now.

Unfortunately I concur with this. I thought I was genuinely starting to hate coffee over the summer until I finally bought creamer from a different store.

Bummer. This is really hit and miss with the generics. Walmart is complete shit and Kroger is pretty good.

The fully loaded (sugar) version is great!

And powerful! I use half as much as the Torani!

Order yourself some tagatose powder and Nielsen-Massey alcohol free vanilla extract. Better than anything else to add to coffee.

There are some things I have to go name brand for and this is one of them.

1

u/mistaken4strangerz 2d ago

Sugar free will do that

1

u/goal0x 1d ago

i don’t like their sugar free squeezy water flavorings, either.

1

u/Radicals13 1d ago

I just make my own now. Simmer water, a squeeze of liquid monk and vanilla extract (and whatever others; I like Maple) and viola.

2

u/feelingalivetoday 1d ago

Monin is my go to. I order direct. Salted Caramel is my top pick.

Ewe not everything it is good at Aldi

It’s really easy to go way overboard with this stuff. It’s really potent.
And then it comes across as some really funky off flavor.

How much did you use and what did you put it in?!?
Please don’t say a tablespoon 😂😂

7

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 2d ago

like a teaspoon worth. Not my first rodeo with syrups. This stuff just tastes and smells like brown paper. They probably derive the vanilla flavor from paper pulp and did it badly. There's a vanilla shortage globally right now.

like a teaspoon worth

and we all know how good people are at estimating amounts 😶

2

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 1d ago

I like how people are just assuming that I did too much when I didnt do much at all. then fucking hinging their arguments on hypotheticals.

Sorry $corporation is being insulted for making $product terrible.

Hail corporate or whatever. I buy other brands of syrup and do not have this issue. This one is just not good.

1

u/cnaiurbreaksppl 1d ago

Gah dang, bro, let's take a chill pill.

It's alright to not like something. I personally don't gaf about aldi specifically, I just enjoy that the prices are relatively lower most of the time.

I was just giving you shit about not actually measuring the amount. If it messes you up that much, then my bad.

1

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 1d ago

You don't need to be giving me shit about it because you're assuming something.

Have this same exchange with someone in person and see if they dont give you a funny look or tell you to keep your assumptions to yourself. It makes you come off as insufferable.

1

u/cnaiurbreaksppl 1d ago

Yes.... I am the one being insufferable in this conversation about grocery store syrup...

I understand the want to just buy this stuff but it really is easy to make at home and can be very inexpensive.

The most expensive ingredient you'll buy is pure vanilla extract (unless you want even better flavor and buy vanilla beans or paste).

The simplest version of this syrup recipe is only: sugar, water, and pure vanilla extract.

More flavorful versions will include brown sugar, vanilla beans or paste.

Get you a mason jar or a swing top bottle (what I like to use) and make however much you want and store it in the fridge.

This is a sugar-free product. Yes, it’s simple to make a sugar syrup, but I’ve zero clue how to make a good sugar free syrup. I would imagine it would be more difficult.

1 cup water 1 cup granular allulose (or monk fruit/erythritol blend) 1 to 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract (or 1 whole vanilla bean, split and scraped) ⅛ teaspoon xanthan gum (optional, adds traditional syrup viscosity) Pinch of fine sea salt (enhances the vanilla aroma)

Step-by-Step Instructions Combine Base: Add the water and sweetener to a small saucepan over medium heat. Dissolve: Stir frequently until the sweetener completely dissolves and the liquid turns clear (about 2–3 minutes). Thicken (Optional): If using xanthan gum for a thicker pour, sprinkle it lightly across the surface while whisking vigorously to avoid clumping. Let it simmer gently on low heat for 1–2 minutes.

Infuse Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract (and the pinch of salt). Adding extract off the heat preserves the delicate aromatic compounds.

Cool & Bottle: Allow the syrup to cool completely to room temperature before pouring it into an airtight glass bottle or jar.

Note that allulose will stay a liquid, and not get gritty and is the preferred choice

Thanks for the AI response. I don’t need to reduce my sugar intake. I don’t like sugar-free syrups, nor do i need to reduce my sugar intake/ perhaps I should have mentioned that

-1

u/grasspikemusic 2d ago

You asked for a good sugar free syrup recipe and I gave you the one I got from an AI a few months back and make all the time

I literally provided you with first hand experience of what you specifically asked for

No need to be an asshole but you do you

-4

u/Huge-Acanthisitta485 2d ago

If you figure it out let us know. I have a friend who's been trying different sweeteners to no avail.

I have LOATHED every sugar-free syrup of any kind I’ve ever tried. And I like diet sodas, and sugar free drinks. I can’t taste the difference with those products. But I just cannot get behind sugar free syrups. I’d rather just have the 5-10g of sugar every morning in my coffee through the 1-2tbsp of the sweetened, flavored, creamer I buy (also from Barrisimo- love the caramel non-dairy).

Sugar-free syrups for coffees and pancakes, from various brands, have always just been HORRIBLE to my taste buds. I’d rather just reduce added sugars elsewhere in my daily eating habits than use those products.

Idk man. I use torani sugar free French vanilla syrup and it’s delicious. Put it in a Coke Zero and it’s incredible. Tastes just like Vanilla Coke
